I was thinking about things this year's first time Calis (and indeed in some cases Turkey) might like to be tipped off about, and most things I would suggest are the things we do by tradition these days. So how about a topic about it I thought. And this is it. And these are ours (some anyway):
1. We always arrive in the evening. So first night tradition: Check in, drop bags, Frank Cannons.
2. First day: Turkish breakfast at hotel. Absolutely love it, love it a little less each subsequent day ;)
3. First day: Lunch at Lokanta, for us always Sahil Lokantasi next to Migros. Even with no alcohol, fabulous.
4. First full day evening: Dinner with Cenk & Olga at Receps in fish market.
5. New tradition: At least one Full Scottish Breakfast at Vojo.
6. Night at Mozaik Bahce
We do loads of stuff, at 1 million miles an hour, but the above 6 are the 6 things that we just couldn't miss any single one of during our Calis holiday.
What are yours :)

Also arrive late at night, usually peckish as eaten nothing since lunch on the plane, unpack briefly, quick wash then up to Café Pazaar or one of the local places near our apartment, few drinks and share a pide. First day always catching up with the neighbours, a walk along the prom, a full breakfast at the Brothers or Meeting Point, then back to relax by the pool. Always go to market in Fethiye, and the Sunday Market just along from our apartment. Always have at least on return trip on the water taxi, dolmus x2 to Olu Deniz, a trip to a big supermarket for provisions, morning coffee at Eynas, lots of visits to the little shops along the prom, comparing prices, but rarely buying. A visit to Pies and Pastries to say hello to the little dogs and lastly a long walk up to the Surf Café stopping at lots of places for refreshments along the way!! (I think that's about 6, please excuse spelling!!) :) :)
-
1.A Sunday BBQ around the pool with our friends an Turkish neighbours, usually lasts into the night, finished off when me and Murat take to the guitar and sas.
2.Boat trip with Ali and Elvan
3.Nights at Aydin Pide, great simple food, wine, beer ,raki and of course cem the host.
4.pancakes and freshly pressed juice at Fethiye market
5.Coffee and cake at Blue Cafe, pas partur with Selcuk and Adem
6.Walk along the prom to Fethiye stopping every half hour or so taking in the atmosphere and Efes, find a restaurant off the beaten track and taxi back.
7.Full day and night at the Sundial, getting home in early hours suntanned, full and happy.
8.At least one night on my own trawling the bars, meeting new people, renewing annual aquaintanceships, ending upl in Josephs.
I could go on at the risk of sounding
predictable but it keeps me happy!
-
1. Late evening - Stop off on transfer for tin of cucaraca spray
2. Arrive at apartment and spray every nook and cranny including under bed, behind curtains/drawers and in wardrobes – choke the OH with the fumes til he has coughing fit. :o
3. Get the kettle on and boot up the air-con in bedroom
4. Unpack and avoid argument about how there’s no way I will wear everything I have brought. >:(
5. Panic cos I can’t find my little bag with all chargers in…..always panic, always find. ;)
6. Send OH for cans of tonic (to go with duty free Vera Lynne) and nibbles cos too late to go into Calis now
7. See if there’s green oranges on the tree to go in my G&T
8. Shower and get PJ’s on and sit on terrace with said G&T
9. Quarter way down it and OH decides we need to go into Calis even if it is midnight
10. Get dressed again, drip all the way down B Manco and flop into Kerim for a few with George and Uzzi.
That’s us – every bloomin’ time………….. ;D

Sounds lovely and typical Bluwise! I think we're all the same you know! ;)
-
I'd been thinking about this too! Here's my list of must do's, some at any rate.
1. Arrive too late at night for anything else(thanks to Monarch changing the flight times) so collapse into bed.
2. Morning, nip over to shop for lovely fresh bread, butter, jam and yoghurt for brekkies.
3. Ensconce self by pool with Kindle(must try not to fall on it and kill it like last year) and despatch OH
to barbers for beautification. Nothing like a Turkish barber for making a silk purse out of a
sow's ear.
4. Dolmas into Fethiye for first visit to Mozaic, yum.
5. Next day Friday so it's the Farmers Market in Fethiye for honey, fruit and tomatoes by the ton.
Lunch, a pancake cooked by those lovely ladies in the market.
6. Organise a boat trip, we have been on them all but it's such a great day.
Other things, too many to mention, just getting the dolmus and tootling about, chatting to all the shop and restaurant people and eating copious amounts. Sadly not too much Efes as OH not allowed to indulge any more. This year he wants to add a trip up Babadag to the restaurant and take loads of photos but I am being a bit of a wuss about it!
Only 17 more sleeps as my granddaughter would say!
-
Only one priority. Whatever time we arrive I have to go and find somewhere for a nice big spicy Kokorec and an Ayran.
-
Some are historical now of course
1. Nearly always arrived late at night but were always welcomed by fellow Letooners who knew we were due to arrive and were kind enough to wait up. First G&T of the season among friends -sheer bliss.
2. Down very early for breakfast at Letoon to savour that beautiful tranquil vista.
3. Not even bothering to think about emptying my case. Storage space at Letoon was at a premium shall we say and once Brenda had unpacked all the space had gone.
4. First evening meal was always at Mangal.
5. First night was always rounded off at Scarlett. On one memorable occasion one of the proprietors thought it would be wheeze to throw me into the pool.
6. A visit to Olu Deniz to visit our good friend the jeweller
7. A boat trip - many marvellous days out with Jerry but latterly with Sukru
8. First day - a visit to Zumrut for an excellent exchange rate.
9. Spending a evening in the relaxing atmosphere in Maya
-
Nearly always arrive early afternoon so firstly get the trolley out for the essentials so off straight away to Melissa supermarket Gunlukbashi.
1. Enjoy our first efes on the balcony taking in the beautiful scenery yet again.
2. Always visit Sechin for some lovely Turkish food.
3. Take a bike ride along the promenade from Calis to Fethiye stopping at a few restaurants cor a drink.
4. Go to Sultan Patissere for some great Baklava.
5. Have a day out with Jerry on his boat.
6.visit friends we have met since visiting 8 years ago.
7. Have a meal at Mozaic Bahce
8. Enjoy evenings with friends drinking on the balcony until the early hours
9. Visit Zumrut for some money exchange and ssee what new jeweller he has
-
We always arrive late into Dalaman
1 our pickup always stops off at a corner shop at our request so we can buy 4 effes and cin cin with tonic plus breakfast items
2. Next day full shop at super market and stock up on main items and sun bathe at the beach bars by telmessos
3. Always into Fethiye for the evening calling at the Oasis to book twelve island tour, which always seems to be around Day 3, then onto the fish market for dinner and then bar cemetery for cocktails, this sets the scene for really late nights, oops !
4. Market day, early with breakfast and fresh veg, and oddly enough belts, don't ask me why, but I always buy a belt,
5 call into mozzy bar for effes and chill, walk along the beach into calis for dinner
6. Freestyle for the rest of our 14 nights doing pretty much what we like
This will be our first 14 nights without our daughters for 19 years, so now we can be free spirits again and relive our youth, parent behaving badly springs to mind, our fourth year in calis and so looking forward to it.

I'm not obviously a creature of habit but I am as far as my holiday goes:
1) Drop bags in hotel then a mad dash to Gunisik for a late night snack as we always arrive late in resort.
2) First day, dolmus to Olu Deniz for my pedicure and a shave for hubby. This is incorporated with cocktails at Buzz Bar.
3) Book boat trip with Popeye boat. Never get fed up with a boat trip.
4) Walk to Koca Calis and find a deserted spot on the "beach".
5) A visit to Mosaic Bahce.
6) Ayran and pancakes at same catering unit at either/both the markets.
7) Coffee, apple cake and an evening meal at Eyna.
8) A night at Josephs, and another at Lee's Cinar along the front (he's just changed the name of his bar)
9) At least 1 evening meal at Meeting Point
10) Coffee and Banoffee pie @ pies & pastries (the best banoffee pie in the whole world)
11) A walk up to the bowling club and book a game
12) A walk to Fethiye and back.
Everything else is on an ad hoc basis.
TO DO LIST:
1)Ephasus and Pammukale
2)Sundial
3)Try Kokorec
4)A trip to Datcha
5)A trip on hydrofoil to Rhodes
-
Dependent upon arrival time, usually quite late but this is it.
1) Bags in, change into shorts, tshirt and sandles. Apply mossie spray.
2) Pop next door to see Can, Mary and Cem at Carretta.
3) Stroll into town, stop at Dawn Beach to see EKO, have several beers.
4) Go for kebab and chips at Gunislik then home.
5) Usually take a boat trip. Our boat of preference is Popeye.
6) Stroll up and down the prom, stopping for a beer/lunch with everyone we know.
7) Eat at the Fishmarket.
8) Eat at Megri Lokanta.
9) Enjoy an evening at Deep Blue Bar.
10) Half bread and lamb doner at Sunday market.
All very predictable I'm afraid !!
-
We usually arrive early in the afternoon.
1. drop the suitcases in room 101 (our room!)
2. hijack a stool at the bar, order a visne-soda and look for familiar faces/regular guests
3. give the stroopwafels to Ahmet & Leila
4. a short walk to the Nevada Su to book the Hamam for later in the afternoon
5. book the first of our boattrips on the Ekinim I
6. enjoy the rest of the holiday

A short diversion off thread ...... (prompted by Keith's list)
I am still trying to work out which is Receps at the Fish Market ....
If you are standing in the passage way between the fruit and veg market facing the fish market which direction do I head ?
Thanks
-
We arrive late go to bed get up, car delivered, chill out, go shopping later on, get ready and go to Georges for a meal and my favourite Chicken Topkapi.
However after that we have no plan we we mainly lie by the pool and chill out, read some books and unwind This to us is the beauty of our place in Calis, we never know what we will do, but we aim not to do a lot. ;)
-
Can't believe not mentioned as a first must, but a bottle of cool Efes usually at the Letoon followed by an argument about whether we should unpack , or have another.

Phil- Recep's is on the right hand side in the corner
-
I never know where it is when I walk in :D
-
Sorry to labour the point ......
Is it the corner as soon as I walk in from the fruit market ? or do I have to pass the fountain thing and the fishmongers stalls and then it is the far corner on the right ??
Considering there are only four corners you would have thought I would have found it by now !
-
As I recall (and I do genuinely find it confusing as I always seem to arrive a different way) - if you come in that way (fruit/veg) it is along the right side as you look. Over half way up, as the right side entrance is before, then Receps, then the far right corner one.
-
Ok - got it now
On the list of things to do on next visit !
-
I could be wrong here, but from the fruit market end I think the one in the very far right corner is Himli - and the one just before it is Receps?
Alternatively. . .if you enter from opposite end coming from Paspatur, between the butchers and a small clothes shop, it's the second on the LEFT before the fish stall. :)

Yeah that's why I said that :D
-
Oh yes :-[
-
As such the only one we have at the mo is arrive in the middle of the night after 7 hour delay and go to bed :'(
-
1 - If we arrive late we always walk to the Birlik for a pizza.
2 - First full day is a cycle to Melissa's in Ciftlik to do a big shop. Beer ordered and all delivered by the owner the same day.
3 - Since we found Mozaik we always have an evening there.
4 - At least two meals at Guven's to enjoy the sunset and the company.
5 - Always at least one visit to our lokanta in Ciftlik (the serve beer as well). Mixed pide is a must!
6 - A new tradition seems to be at least one cycle ride from Koca Calis to Fethiye. Drink stops accordingly ;)
7 - Kings Garden is on the list now as well.
8 - Thursday market in Ciftlik for our fruit and veg.
9 - Fire up the gas barbie :)
10 - last night is usually a meal at the Birlik before we walk home to wait for our transfer.
Can't wait :)
