We went to see the Rod Stewart tribute at VoJos tonight and for someone who is not easily impressed the only word I can use is "Sensational" I've never witnessed so many people gathered on the promenade, there were hundreds and as for Rod himself, he was sublime, even though he had some issues with the PA, like a true professional he carried on and produced one of the greatest nights (IMHO) that Calis has ever seen.
Well done Volkan, Jo & Steve, you guys nailed it tonight.

Do we know if this was a "one off" or is it going to be repeated throughout the season?
-
Just goes to show how much Calis is lacking in entertainment. Had a brilliant night.
-
Thank you very much George , we glad you -Chris and other 200+ people enjoyed themselves. We keep it would be busy but we seriously didn't think it would be this popular. All our staff worked extremely hard and done us proud. We thank you all for your support . We would love to have him every week but I am afraid this was one off as he is retired and done as a favour to my mother-in law Mags.
As been said calis needs more entertainment and we are working hard to give people what they want so all I can say is watch this space :)

I was there too, and it was a brilliant night, I wish it happened more often. To say how many people were there Vojo's staff worked their socks off to ensure everyone was kept happy. They were sweating buckets! Rod was superb, even with the sound issues, he is such a good entertainer. All in all a fantastic night, well done everybody, and the fish and chips (as usual) was delicious !

great night but i didnt see any charity box?
-
Does every night with entertainment have to raise money for charity then?
-
I remember years ago someone posting that there was an Elvis impersonator on Calis front and posted " is Calis getting like Benidorm". The only entertainment was Dennis who appeared at The then Orient and it was packed.... Not the best singer but a lovely man....

during the night embrace charit volunteers sold raffle tickets to raise money.
-
No Scunner it doesnt but when its billed as one i would have thought there would be more emphasis on the night.
I must have been mistaken along with others that i spoke to last night as we thought we saw it advertised last week as a rod stewart night for the miners fund.
-
I thought that was when he appeared somewhere else, weeks ago.
-
That was at Lee's bar a few weeks ago.
A grand night it was to.
-
As I understand it a special licence is granted so an entertainer can give their time for free for a charity event. Lee's bar did a fundraiser for the miners and vojo's for embrace charity in both nights were a sensation and a lot of money raised for the different causes. It is a pity there cant be more entertainment to cater for the holiday makers, it is pretty dire with the odd karaoke here and there. I lovely sunset is just not enough I'm afraid.

You only have to look at the entertainment scene in Northern Cyprus (where incidentally quite a few Calis/Fethiye singers now are) to see the difference. Loads of variety, quality venues, like...erm...being on holiday!
-
In fact, Northern Cyprus is what Turkey could be if they cut out all the bureaucracy and pointless red tape. Here is their version of the residency for non-nationals who have retired there:
"If you are 60 or above, you no longer need to apply for a yearly residency stamp in your passport. You are free to enter and exit the TRNC as often as you like".
If only...

It was a fantastic night, we had never been to Vojo's before this trip, we have now been in 4 times in the last 2 weeks, everytime we have it's been well worth it, Volkan, Jo and the team have made us very welcome, and hubby who is a staunch "Turkish food only" on holidays, had the fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. We will be pointing all our friends in their direction when they stay at ours over the summer.

Don't mention it. Always happy to help.
-
Rimms thanks for the Youtbe link. It was brilliant.
-
Glad you liked it Bells, I've watched it three times now and still find his honesty refreshing and the stories around the songs on his new album fascinating

Embrace did indeed have a raffle that night and raised 880 lira .It was a brilliant night as he managed to create such a wonderful atmosphere . We were very grateful that he performed for charity especially as he was on holiday.
