I was thinking the other day about the many various "faces" of Calis that we have known throughout the years. Whereas the actual "face" of Calis is changing with all the improvements, canal works, new buildings and paved roads etc, many of the actual faces, as in characters, remain and are a comforting constant for locals and returning holidaymakers alike. I thought it would be a great idea for a new topic, and if Scunner agrees, would like to kick off with Yuksel. This jolly, disabled gentleman has been a regular sight on Calis seafront for many years selling his icy cold slush drinks to wilting holidaymakers from from his pitch next to the taxi rank just past the Eyna restaurant. Despite his handicap, Yuksel, or "Sugar Dady as he likes to be known (deliberate spelling by the way) is always happy and smiling - many of you may not recognise him in the photo below without his wig - think a bright green curly Afro and you have it!

So who is next up and, if you have a photo, even better.

This wonderful lady....Angel

And this one Eric.

I will never forget coming down to breakfast at Letoon for the first time and looking out at that fabulous view and then turning round to see the lovely Nevra. The phrase "died and gone to heaven" comes readily to mind.
The present Mrs H and Nevra have been soul mates ever since.
-
Not forgetting Jerry who has provided us with so many memorable boat trips over the years.

We always look out for the very large guy who has some sort of disability, who this year seems to have lost a lot of weight. He wear calf length trousers and talks to everybody. I'd love to know his name. We also look out for the guy with the moustache who rides very upright onhis bike. I think his bike was stolen last year. Again, don't know his name. :)
-
Toky, that made me smile, re the man with the moustache who rides the bike. A few years ago, our son and future daughter in law came on holiday with us to Calis, and she was really taken aback when she saw this guy as he apparently looked so much like her late father, who died when she was a child. For that reason, we always refer to him as Mr Jenkins!!!!! We often feel the urge to tell him that he now has two gorgeous little grandchildren, but, if he were able to understand us, he'd think we were nuts! In fact, we probably are!!!!
-
Cant forget Adem the shoeshine guy
-
Toky/Julesbob, "Mr. Jenkins", the guy on the bike is Engin the gardener, he has been around for years and years, so grandad now has a name. Not sure about your large guy Toky.
-
The large guy lives in Gulukbasi I only know him as "are youth" many years ago me and Kevin Dennis were walking when we saw him and Kevin said he thought he looked like me!!!
he spend ages at the traffic lights in Gunlukbasi making yout cars don't go through on red.
-
How about the omnipresent "Guess your weight ?" lad (who must be about 18 now !!!)
-
Oh that's Dennis. He has some form of mental disability but he is a really nice guy, very friendly and is as soft as butter, although unfortunately as is usually the case, some people may be a little wary of him. He used to help us out when we organised the carnival by delivering leaflets around the Sunday market.
The guess your weight lad is still around and growig up to be a good looking young man.
-
The omnipresent 'guess your weight' guy looks like he has a twin. Last friday or saturday I saw two nearly identical lads walking with their scales along the prom. Hence omnipresent?
-
The guess your weight lad is Mustafa. We were told he is sent out by his Uncle to get money from the tourists. Mustafa does have a brother.
He is quite grown up now. I remember him years ago, standing on the bar of Georges doing a Michael Jackson moonwalk. He was very good.
We did not see the big guy along the prom this year, but we were driving passed the cemetery and he was walking towards us and he gave us a big wave.
Adem the shoeshine guy told us his wife is expecting again...
-
Jacqui and i believe its anothe set of twins, that will be five in total, i remember speaking to him last year and he said he would like about 11 children. he is one of the most genuine guys in Calis
-
Marc (Fatiye) and Baris from the meeting point. I really miss those guys.

Baris now runs his own Avea franchise opposite the big mosque in Fethiye, he is always happy for people to call in for cay.
-
Great idea weey.
Two people I often wondered about were mentioned by Rosemary.
Engin often nods to us as he cycles past so it will be nice to answer with Mariana Engin on our next visit.
-
This predictive text is such a pain.
Who on earth is weeny? :(
-
lets not forget ooh lah lah. ahmet at the meeting point. gentleman.
-
Yes the big guy is still around,he was at the Sunday market,, nearly every Sunday,
-
the man who sell the most lovely bunches of flowers
yes it twins again for adem :)
-
The guy on the bike was apparently a school teacher and was in a bad road accident years ago, which left him with some problems, The whistler (Old massage man), was always a feature, as is the current one with that curious looking rolling pin, :o and Rose and the german lady, Ian Rush , who seems to have been there forever, one that makes me laugh is the girl that sells the corn on the cob, nobody has a clue what she is selling, as she just shouts out in Turkish, think one of our prominent features in Calis had to be Nesim, he had a kit for every premiere team. last seen working in the watch shop in Fethiye,
-
Rushie Whether you love or hate him he is a character.Gerald the whistling massage man.
-
Mr Socks, many years ago. On his bicycle selling..... Yes socks!
-
I agree puma - the hard working Adem - the arrival of the twins will make it 5. Can this handsome young man really be the little boy we first met.
(http://s2.postimg.org/h0rfoqiat/adem.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/h0rfoqiat/)
And my "favourite" flower lady. Have you ever seen such high cheek bones.

Try clicking on "Add image to post" above this box then clicking "browse", locate the photo on your pc, then clicking "family safe" and finally clicking "upload it".
Looking forward to seeing it.
-
Seen the flower lady a couple of weeks ago and her daughter also.
-
John I have just tried a few times to post images as you said but does not work for me.
-
Mark, it wasn't working form me either, then I realised I hadn't logged in to Post Image. I am no expert but maybe that was your problem - don't mean to be cheeky. :)
-
I was agreeing Osjari's post and Puma's came up instead, must be my fat fingers.
-
Marggie I have registered now and signed in it says the picture has loaded 100% but nothing there.
-
Mark, try logging in again and retry.

When you click on "add image to post", the Post Image box opens, at this point log in, browse to find the image you want to use on your computer, select a size for it and confirm it is family safe - then upload.
-
Weird still the same says it has uploaded but nothing there
-
Sorry, at a loss now - maybe somebody else can help. :)

that's the original shoeshine going back to around 1997/1998 John

I wonder what happened to Serkan the greeter from La Teras? Always thought he was part of the La Teras experience. Looked forward to seeing him waiting downstairs at the Bus Stop, having a good old chat and then going upstairs to our favourite restaurant in Calis. It had a great atmosphere. So sad when the owner was killed.
We did meet Serkan in Fethiye about a year after La Teras was closed and he told us he was working in Hisaronu with the rest of the guys from La Teras and he was going to be working for the Government in future. However, we did look up the restaurant the next year and it had closed.
-
The man pushing his cart selling sweet cakes with his little hooter and shouts out sounds like he is shouting sausages! He must walk miles as we see him everywhere in Calis and he is always smiling :)
-
We call the guy who pushes the sweet cart and hooting his horn "şapka" (hat) because he often wears a pith helmet and yes he walks miles and miles every day.
