On her way round to see us Jan's friend has been mugged. It happened only about half hour ago in broad daylight (14:30) on a main street. The two toe-rags were on a motor bike, they came past, grabbed her shoulder bag, which she had clasped under her arm, and in so doing pulled her over, dragged her along, leaving her bruised and badly cut. She has been taken to hospital for treatment and the Polis are involved.
These low-lifes are getting more and more brazen, middle of the day, happy to cause injury in order to get a bag, and in areas that you would assume are safe. Lets hope the Polis catch them and soon. In the meantime please be on your guard.
FYI the incident happened on the road running alongside the canal next to the Hotel Pelin, but upstream from it on the other side of the canal, walking from the bridge near the Nevada Su in the direction of the Adrenalin.

Really sorry to hear this, Pete has just come in and says there is a big police presence driving around the Gunlukbasi/Calis area at the moment, hopefully looking for the muggers.
-
That's awful. I hope the lady is ok.
-
Really awful. Hope she makes a quick recovery.
-
Just read of another near Orange rent a car at 3pm. 2 men on a blue scooter.
-
So sorry for all of the bad incidents that seem to be happening in both ovacik and calis. I hope these women make swift recoveries. X

Sorry to hear of this, hope your friend makes a quick recovery.
Don't know if it's connected, but I was driving towards Calis Kipa earlier today & had to pull into the outside lane as there were 3 polis cars, 2 parked in the wrong direction ie facing to Fethiye with 2 motorcyclists. It seemed a bit OTT compared with their usual traffic checks & nobody else was being stopped.

It is a shame there isn't a tannoy system in Calis warning people of these incidents...
-
Not just the Calis area either.., A woman was mugged by two people on a scooter in Deliktas today.. Thankfully she wasn't hurt but it is only a matter of time.
-
I really hope all of the people involved make swift recoveries.
Does this appear to be happening to tourists? Or is it a residential areas thing? Opportunists or specific targets? It seems quite widespead too, so maybe some sort of organised gang.
I don't know, I'm speculating but so many thoughts at the moment......certainly not a good few days for you folks out there. Chins up guys and hopefully they'll be caught pretty quick.

Really sorry to hear this hope the two ladies are ok after their horrible ordeals...
These low life scum need catching as I for one would not want to any where near the place at the mo, :( livelihoods will suffer as why would people want to go on holiday to a place where this is going on it is disgraceful and like the other member said in broad daylight too, plenty of other places to holiday...
-
Is it legal to carry mace or pepper spray here? If I had my way these scum would be wearing their 'cojones' as earrings!!!
-
It's very worrying to see this. Years ago Turkey was so safe...that's why I holiday on my own. Am coming over in a couple of weeks and this makes me nervous :( I hope the ladies who were involved are okay and this spate of muggings stops

This is terrible. I used to do a lot of walking and often walked up from near the Pelin to Orange Park and usually alone. During the winter, when it was dark, I used to walk from the Dolphin roundabout to my house near the Tugay and never once was I afraid. Changed days and although I no longer live there, when I was over on holiday for three weeks, felt there was a bit of a change of atmosphere which I couldn't put my finger on. Sadly things are changing and along with some old friends moving away, things are not as good as they used to be. I hope those people who have been robbed will recover but I have no doubt that they will be left with some degree of fear.

when I used to read posts similar to those above I always felt sorry for the people involved but never thought it could happen in my area....Foca.......as felt so safe and secure here.Unfortunately crime has reached here too bringing with it a sense of uneasiness and even fear.Never get complacent or think 'it wont happen to me.....not in my area'because it can and it will. Please be vigilant out there and stay safe.

Good news, the Polis caught the b*****ds. They was operating in a gang of six and the Polis have caught 4 of them, and are confident of catching the other two as they have cleared out of town and are expected to be caught in some other tourist resort. Still waiting to hear what the sentence they received by the court, but hoping for something very severe.
The Polis were marvelous, and encourage people to report problems to them and perhaps more importantly follow it up when it comes to ID parades and statements etc.
