......if you can take dogs on the dolmuş?
Going to visit the lovely Menthol and Slikmrs in Ovacik but we'd like to take puppy with us if possible to avoid having to rush back.
Ta.

I would love to know, I have asked this question several times and I get told that it's down to the individual drivers whether they let you on with a dog. It's not much help when you want to plan a trip with your dog is it? I wish there was a rule yes or no
-
I have seen a few small dogs, but in pet carriers. When we had our old Labrador, it was a definite no!!
-
Agreed Susiepink!
I guess we'll just have to take her and hope for the best. It's only from Kaya so not a long journey.
She's only small, maybe I can stick her in my handbag.... ;D

We've taken ours on the dolmus from Olu to Hisaronu after a walk with the Kismet group. Most of the passengers were English and didnt bat an eyelid.
Another time we went from Yaniklar back to our car after a walk and it was full of villagers, so we sat at the back with Honey safely by our feet and no one took any notice.
We often get tooted to see if we want to get in when we've got Honey with us, so assume it's ok but have always felt it isn't...
So, maybe it's down to the individual driver, or maybe it's ok but just something Turkish people wouldn't do as their dogs generally live in the garden.
My worry is more that a lot of Turkish people are scared of dogs, so it just doesn't feel very fair.
As it's a puppy I would be inclined to carry it and keep it away from the other passengers and don't think there will be a problem.
Going to Ovacik will be mostly tourists who will probably all just want to play with the puppy.

Taxis are good.

It depends entirely on the driver. The dolmus drivers on the Tasyaka, Ovacik, Hisaronu, Oludeniz, Kaya routes are more likely to allow dogs because they're used to the crazy expats and tourists. We've seen lots of dogs on various dolmuses in the past.

Thanks guys.
As we're on the right route, KKOB, we might be lucky....I will report back in due course.
Won't be just yet though as we've realised pup's not had her second vaccinations so we can't take her out freely for a while longer.
Think she'll be glad to get out and so will we!

No, just goats.

We are often surprised how hesitant Turkish people can be with dogs, especially children. Don't be surprised, therefore, if fellow passengers look somewhat taken aback.
-
It always surprises me how many dogs are allowed to run around without leads, as soon as they run towards you it's the same quite from the owner " he/she is harmless" many many people are scared of dogs, so it's so nice to here a dog owner respecting others

We have a Turkish friend who was going to get a puppy for his children. We were quite surprised when he told us it will stay in the garden and not be allowed in the house as animals are dirty and are not allowed to come into the houses. We did not mention our cat lives in our house in the U.K. in case we upset him. However, perhaps this is why Turkish people don't like dogs on the dolmus. I also cannot remember ever seeing a dog in a car with a Turkish family.

I can, several times, and on scooters! :o

So dogs/ cats are looked upon as "dirty", yet when we lived in Turkey, I can remember on LOTS of occasions, seeing Turks getting into vehicles with chickens , SHEEP, and probably the most stinking farm animal of all, GOATS !!

We take Charlie on the Dolly 3 or 4 times per week and all over the place. We live in central Fethiye.
However he is a small dog and I always carry him. Never had a problem in the 5 years we have been there.
However we have one friend who was going t and then cancelled it as they don't allow dogs he was told.

As someone who always tells my wife who is very nervous of dogs "don't worry, that dogs harmless", it was fate that I got bitten on the leg in May whilst cycling past Denis Sitesi (on left as you come in from Koca). I was told at the hospital that 3-5 people everyday are treated for dog bites in Fethiye, so maybe it a bigger problem than many people think. Also I can confirm that if you are bitten and the skin is broken, a visit to the hospital for a course of Rabies jabs (free) and tetanus, anti inflammatories and antibiotics only costs a 39 lira prescription. No need to use local doctors and insurance as your excess will be far more! The service was first class and I was never there more than 10 minutes on my 4 visits! I was told by a local Turkish lady who witnessed the event and cleaned the wound, the dog was not a stray.
