Title: Beach lovers
Post by: pops on July 29, 2014, 18:28:11 PM
No no....not me. Not that keen personally but our friends are.
For those of you who do like the beach, which sections are your favourites and why?
Would it be for the cleanliness, the local bars/eateries, maybe a few less pebbles, the snorkelling, the safety, the surf?
Whatever your reasons for a particular area, I'd love to know.
Still 53 days to our holiday but I'm starting to hate work so it can't be too long now.

Your question made me smile as I have been living here for 8 years and my daughter visits from UK every year. This year a work colleague asked her what the beaches were like and she had to reply "I don't know I have never been on them" We are not beach people at all perhaps it was because we had beautiful beaches when I lived in UK in the Bournemouth area so have had my share of sand sandwiches etc. The one beach I do love is the far end of Istuzu beach in Dalyan as my other daughter lives near there and it never gets as crowded as the main beach. I usually  manage to find some nice driftwood  if we go early enough. I also love Patara to go for a long walk but not in height of summer when no shade makes it impossibly hot. Both beaches very clean with beautiful clear water.

Thank you. Both sound great. Without trying to be difficult, I was thinking more about the sections of beach within say a half hour walk from the beach as you come from the dolphin roundabout. Love a nice walk along the prom to find a spot.

Either end of the beach so standing facing the beach, on the extreme left is the Sat Restaurant (about 10 minutes walk) which has a beach and sun beds etc.,  at the other end.. the right, is the Surf Cafe (about 20 minutes walk) where you can go to the beach and again use the facilities.  These seem to be the favourite places to go for the nicest parts of the beach.  :D  ;)

If you walk a bit further than Surf cafe you come to Mekans, which is the last eatery along the beach. There are covered areas with sunbeds, the food is good and reasonably priced, and there is usually a nice sea breeze to keep you cool. A pleasant way to spend a scorching hot day.

In my opinion people who holiday regularly in Calis are not "beach" people.  As such there are no beaches in Calis, even the best bits are shingle, on my 1st visit I was disappointed with the fact there are no sandy beaches as such, but over the years I have accepted that if I wanted metres of golden sand I should have gone elsewhere!!

8)Hi been going to Cali's many years. The first thing that drew me to the place very breezy, so can sit comfortably on beach. We go to the right top hand end of Calis as there are about 4 bars& restaurants that have free beds otherwise the council charge all along main beach. The sea extremely deep so be aware! Not sandy but at least no sand sticking all over you.The sat restaurant very expensive so go other end!

Yes snorkelling is best done from a boat trip, there's next to no visibility just off the beach. It's no Red Sea - not the greatest selection of fish but good water clarity/visibility. Some nice shoals, the occasional octopus and a few other beasties along the way.

Here are some I took, including fireworms and a starfish.  :)

The best views of beautiful fish are on the bottom of the boat eating thgr plankton. We went recently and some of them were huge.. I have only recently got into snorkelling and love it..

Ha ha Jacqui, my clumsy attempt at humour seems to have passed you by unless you are snookering me here.  I meant that the sharks are EVERYWHERE, in business, banking, everywhere, you cannot avoid them.  :D :D :D
