Title: Terrorist Worries
Post by: Colwyn on August 29, 2014, 15:28:40 PM
Soon it will no longer be ISIL but ISILIT (Including Turkey).
This was posted on another thread but, rather than divert that one, I thought it better to start a new one.

Today, the recent events in Syria and Iraq have been identified as leading to an increased terrorist threat in the UK and the Government has raised threat warning levels to the second highest "Severe" level. {I should add that this doesn't worry me in a personal way since I know that over the last 10 years many more people have been killed in road accidents than in terrorist attacks, but I still drive a car}.

But I wondered whether Turkey has any equivalent Government warning for its population (I wouldn't expect so). If so, what is it now? If not, how would you rate it?

Considering that Turkey has borders with both Iraq and Syria, if ISIS wanted to spread their net it could be on their horizon. Glad we don't live that far south.

Why would IS wish to antagonise one of its allies...

I have read that IS has 46 Turkish diplomats held hostage. If true that sounds a bit like antagonizing your ally. Perhaps it is untrue?

Yes a very embarrassing situation having openly (I believe) supported IS to have Turkish hostages taken and held. Also a certain very senior persons son allegedly has financial links to said organization.

In yesterdays Zaman the Intelligence Services are trying to locate 20 trucks and vans packed with explosives

and 30 ISIL  suicide bombers that are ready to respond to any Turkish actions against them, reportedly.

Here's a footage taken in a tram in Istanbul of what appear to be two IS members.

The Turkish Syrian border at Kobani looks to be on the verge of being breached according to the latest news reports from the area today and not a Turkish troop in sight.

Although this article is two days old it's pretty clear what the Kurds think the reason for that is.
