Title: Pablo Picasso - Artistic Genius or..........................
Post by: KKOB on October 25, 2014, 16:50:02 PM
After 5 years of renovations costing several million Euros the Picasso museum has re-opened.

I just can't understand his "art" and why people rave about it.

Can you ?

We went round the Picasso museum in Malga and have to say they started off o.k. but as you viewed the later pictures they got really weird.

We have many Picasso prints hanging in our house. I think they are wonderful. I realize they are very outdated now, not avant garde at all - but I don't care.

My favourite Picasso painting is unfortunately not available as a print - I think due to copyright issues. It is called First Steps and features a mother caringly guiding the first hesitant steps of her infant. I think it is beautifully evocative of that special moment with mother engrossed in the child whilst the child totters excitedly but nervously forward.

The "origami" foot on the toddler, the snouts for noses,  - I just don't get it?

It's OK Bluwise it is not compulsory to get it. I don't get why people spend thousands of pounds per year watching football matches, buying football shirts, getting Sky Sports, and all of that. The only benefit seems to be that it entitles them to go down the pub and all through the week bore the socks off everyone except the other two soccer addicts by banging on about referees being rubbish, their manager being rubbish, the players being rubbish, the pitch being tatty and the pies being a rip-off. Still, they seem to enjoy it, that's OK, I just wish they wouldn't go on about it so much.

Point taken Colwyn.  What I really don't understand is whether this style is unique and clever or just used because he can't draw?  :D

Here's an example of Picasso's drawing. I reckon he can draw a bit. What do you think?

I'll leave you all to explore Picasso and his works for yourselves. I'm off to Cardiff for a two-day reunion of the chums I used to knock about with when I was a teenager and in my early 20s. I'll probably look like one of Picasso's cubist figures myself when I get back.

We went to an exhibition of Cezanne at the Courtauld Gallery and afterwards while looking around the rest of the gallery saw an amazing oil painting of a bowl of fruit, it just stood out as brilliant, I'm not a huge fan of still life. As we looked more closely it was by Picasso, superb work, why? I don't know, it just seemed head and shoulders above the rest.

This is his most famous and fascinating work. Guernica which depicts the tragedy of war, painted after the horrific bombing of the town on market day during the Spanish Civil War.

Yep, he's pretty nifty in this style but unfortunately his cubist style is wasted on me..... all looks very random to me but then I don't have a clue about art (you would never have guessed would you?)

Through the Eyes of a Child

A year ago, when our granddaughter was two, you started to become interested in the prints that hang on our walls. I picked her up so she could see them properly. She didn't make any comments on the first five but when she came to the one shown below she announced "That's my Mummy!". We tried to suggest "No Izzy, I don't think it is your Mummy" but she was insistent. "Yes, yes, that is my Mummy". By age two she hadn't learned to see what was 'wrong' about Picasso's painting.

Izzy's mother wasn't very impressed with being likened to this painting, but I could find something in what Izzy could see. Make your own mind about this - Izzy's mother is the one on the right in this photo.

He says you still owe him five guineas but he has given up hoping that something will turn up. He then called you a very rude name.
