For new members:
Every now and again I try and raise a few pennies for the Calis Childrens Charity (the 3C’S) so that they can continue their outstanding work in helping local children who have very little.
This one is ambitious (not over ambitious I hope) in that I do need lots and lots of people to take part. But we do have lots of new members and fingers crossed that they will help those who regularly do. Remember it's for poor kids.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(http://s2.postimg.org/e02nybm6t/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
Behind the squares in the grid there is (1) partridge in a pear tree , (2) turtle doves, (3) French hens, (4) calling birds, (5) golden rings, (6) geese, (7) swans, (8) maids, (9) ladies, (10) Lords, (11) pipers and (12) drummers. Members will be asked to choose a square or two. Hopefully enough will to fill the grid.
I will reveal what is behind each square over the 12 days.
If you have been good enough to take a square, you will be asked to donate £ 1.00 for each of the corresponding numbers in the song. For example, if a calling bird is behind C5 you would be asked to donate £ 4.00.

Just in case there are members who are not thinking of participating because they do not have paypal, there are at least three ways to donate.
1. at the Charity Shop at Eyna Restaurant on the prom.
2. by cheque or cash. If you message me on here I will give you an address you can use and
3. paypal. Again, message me on here and I will give you the address.

Have you used the Forum recently.
Did enjoy your visit ?. Did you find it informative, funny, stimulating ? Did it help you answer a question you had. Did you read about the wonderful work the 3C's do throughout the year ?
Would you like to help them help children you have very little ?. If so all you have to do is take a square or two.

I have been planning a post about the Advent Calendar for a a long time now.
You have given me the opportunity which I will most certainly take tomorrow. :)
-
Sevi Classic has been good to his word and taken two squares B4 and F4.
Thank you so much.
I wonder if others who advertise on here would like to follow Butch's example
(And yes I do know that some already do charity work)
-
Sevi classic's two squares have taken us past half way which is great. :)
I'm still hoping that we can fill the grid though.

(http://s23.postimg.org/ak0uq0e8n/Grid_1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ak0uq0e8n/)
-
Well over half full now but still quite a few squares to fill.
I must say I have just had to go to the top of the thread to re-read how this competition works and I am still a bit confused, but them it could be that we had a 4.00 am early start for the car boot this morning. John, please can you run through again how it works and when you will need to have all the squares filled in for so that you can start revealing what is behind them. Thanks :)
-
Behind the squares in the grid there is a number between 1 and 12 which represents a line from the song - (1) partridge in a pear tree , (2) turtle doves, (3) French hens, (4) calling birds, (5) golden rings, (6) geese, (7) swans, 8 maids, (9) ladies, (10) Lords, (11) pipers and (12) drummers.
There is one square that has a 1, two squares that have a 2, three squares that have a 3 etc., etc.
I will reveal what is behind each square over the 12 days.
If you have been good enough to take a square, you will be asked to donate £ 1.00 for each of the corresponding numbers in the song. For example, if a 4 is behind D1 you would be asked to donate £ 4.00.
Hope that explains it pi55y. If not let me know
(http://s29.postimg.org/ra31zzjj7/grideg.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ra31zzjj7/)
-
simples innit. ???
-
You do still go down a very complicated route for your fundraisers John, however I am sure you know what you are doing :) :)
-
Not so echogirl 1 – it’s very straightforward :). Bewva is correct – simples innit ;D.
Step 1 – forum member picks square
Step 2 – I reveal number in that square and ask for donation
Step 2 – children in Turkey benefit.
Seriously though the grid is filled with numbers as shown below but located randomly around the grid.
(http://s8.postimg.org/w59luttxd/grideg.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/w59luttxd/)
If your square has a 4 in it, then you are asked to donate £ 4.00.
If we manage to fill the grid then 4 people would be asked to donate £ 4.00 each.
-
I hardly dare dump this after the generosity shown elsewhere but hey-ho ;)
(http://s3.postimg.org/vkq8ih0gf/Grid_1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/vkq8ih0gf/)
-
So when do you start opening the grid up H? 12 days before Christmas?
-
On Christmas Day pi55y.
Plenty of time for people to chose a square or two ;)
-
Ask Brenda to pick 2 no for me.
-
(http://s3.postimg.org/4fexhgowv/22169_twelve_days_of_christmas_ornament_set.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
Brenda picked E2and K6 for you scot.
Thank you not only for taking two squares but for bring this topic back to people's attention. Saved my a bump.
The yellow squares are taken so only the white ones are left to choose from.
(http://s29.postimg.org/jqnxdphw3/Grid_1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/jqnxdphw3/)
-
Nearly 3000 reads, 30 spots to go H and only 21 days. Its looking a tall order. :-\
-
Can you pick 2 for me please & I will pay by cheque if that is ok . Thanks.
-
The present Mrs H picked D6 and L5 for you mickinblack
Thank you so much for taking part :)
PS thanks for the bump bewva
-
Lots of members about so I thought I'd chance my arm with a quick dump. ;)
Remember only the white squares are left. Please chose one or two to help the kids :)
(http://s29.postimg.org/z09qo77zn/Grid_1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/z09qo77zn/)

Pick me another one John, lets keep this subject top of the list to give a few more people a chance to take part!
-
Thanks so much echogirl1 that's very kind of you.
Brenda chose G2 for you
-
I'd like to know how the quick dump works.
-
OMG I never noticed that :-[ :-[ :-[
-
Brilliant
-
Many people seem to have enjoyed the Christmas Fair and have been impressed with the 3C's hard work and organisation in staging it.
Choosing a square would seem a suitable way to say thank you.
Just a thought :).
-
My memory is not what it used to be. Did I mention that there were only 27 squares left to chose from. ;)
Please chose one to help the children.
(http://s30.postimg.org/lk1zx9k4d/Grid_1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/lk1zx9k4d/)
-
Will this work without all of the tiles taken H?
-
H,
on the basis you didn't notice you'd had a quick dump - I'll take 4 (yes 4) please.
A1,3,4 & 6.
Ian
-
WOW that's incredible generous of you IanK. :)
(http://s13.postimg.org/ol2nchfcz/3240_thank_you.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ol2nchfcz/)
-
By my calculation, with 23 squares available, there could still be between £105 and £265 on the board - surely we can get to "full house" between us.
Ian
-
If someone this evening was to choose C6 and/or K3 that would complete two rows and would be 2 nearer the target ;)
-
I'll take them H. :o
-
(http://s29.postimg.org/3t1jebgoj/Business_People_Cheering_cropped.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
What can I say hamlet especially as you have two squares already. Thank you so much. :)
-
21 white squares left.

Right the gloves are off :) ;)
If people don't start taking squares, I am going to begin to slowly reveal the dolphin-less roundabout photograph from a couple of years back. ???
You have been warned ;D
-
Be afraid.
Be very afraid.
Out with your purses, Forumites. ;) ;)
-
The clocks ticking..... :) ;)

-
Can we have H1 and M4 please? x
-
Of course you can lotty - given that you have already taken squares, that's exceptionally kind of you. :)
-
I do hope that this post comes across as I mean it to and that it is not taken the wrong way..........
I have to be honest and admit to becoming slightly embarrassed with this now. I am of course massively grateful to everyone, like lotty, who has participated thus far.
But lately I have been “bumping” this thread in an attempt to encourage new participants to come forward and to fill the grid (which was probably always over ambitious on my part).
However, all I seem to have succeeded in doing is to get very generous people to take more squares than they already have. That was not my intention and I sincerely hope that was how it came across. (I am of course delighted that you have)
So, if I can persuade new participants that would be great but please, please if you have already taken a square do not feel obliged to take more.
If we fill the grid then so be it. If not, people who have taken part will know that they have help the kids once more.
That all having been said and as I said at the beginning of this thread PLEASE REMEMBER taking part in these things is not a condition of CBF membership and that there is no requirement whatsoever to participate.
-
Read over 4,000 times. I realise it is not compulsory to donate to this Charity if you are a CBF member. However, I look at it like this. CBF has been an absolute mine of information for us for 9 years now, and frankly we would have been the poorer if we had not had CBF. It has given us good tips to save money and great information on loads of topics and all for free, nothing to join.
So a donation to the Charities on this Forum is a great way to pay back for all the wonderful free information. ;D ;)
-
Well put Jacqui ;)
-
Absolutely agree Jacqui.
Ambitious on John's part not really considering the amount of people on CBF. Whatever charities we chose to donate to John and the charity deserve our support.
So please fill the squares..
Badgers
-
I, perhaps unsurprisingly, agree ladies but with respect, we should always remember that members are free to decide for themselves.
Charity giving is, and indeed, should always be a very personal thing. And I am sure that many members donate to charities, such as Cancer Research and MacMilllan Cancer Support to name but two which are close my heart.
That having been said, I am equally sure that people who do donate to the 3C's also donate to other charities.
All that I/we can ask is that members consider the wonderful work that the 3C's do for children in an area which provides them (CBF members) with more pleasure than they (the children) experience day-to-day and decide to participate or not.
PS Posted before badger's masculine post :)
-

Please put me down for another one. I do agree with the post that we have all had the benefit of advice which has probably saved us money and time but also agree that it is a personal choice to participate in charity matters. I would think some people have their own preference for charities and give generously to those and there will be some people that just can't afford to give what they would like. I try and give to whatever touches me when I hear about it and what I can afford at the time. Since my daughter passed in Oct 11 I tend to give what I would have spent on her birthdays and Christmas presents and with Calis being her favourite place she would very much approve of my donations but I also give to other charities for young people.
-
What a wonderful way to remember your daughter. :)
Thank you very much jennyjo.

A huge thank you to menthol who is going to drop her splendid donation into the Embrace shop. :)

Humble apologies menthol
No worries and no apology required, H - I just thought I had misunderstood. I'd have happily given it to Embrace anyway :)
Went down today and missed the shop being open by about 10 minutes :(
-
I am keen to bring this to a conclusion.
Can I therefore ask members who are in Turkey to let me know if they have donated at the shop and how much they donated.
Also there are only a few kind members who I think are in the UK who still have to donate.
Please let me know if you still intend to make a donation.
-
sorry how do you donate
-
No worries puma - do you have paypal - if so I will PM details on here :)
-
buddy - your donation safely received.
Thank you so much for helping the children. :)

Just a small bump ladies and gents ;)
I'm keen to get the donations over to the 3C's :)
-
H, have you tried a direct reminder (pm) to those who might have mislaid your Paypal address? ;)
-
People lead busy lives these days hamlet, and/or may not come on here often and/or may simply have forgotten.
I'm happy to leave it for a few days yet :)
-
H, to my knowledge, the following have paid at the 3Cs shop: Jim Fraser, Dizzy Jan & myself, so that's 3 off your list
-
Thanks liz101 - all of the good people you listed (along with methol and hamlet) had let me know that they had donated in Calis. :)
I apologise if I have missed anyone in Calis who have let me know about their donations. :(
-
oscarj - your donation safely received.
Thank you for your support :)
-
I haven't been into the 3Cs shop yet - but will be down this week, more than likely Wednesday. I'll confirm when I've paid it in, H.

I appreciate what you say H, I wasn't suggesting the knee capping approach though :)
By the way, I didn't pay in Calis, I paid via Paypal & you acknowledged, although you might have got mixed up as I paid my dues for the other fundraiser direct to Embrace.
Regards. :))

To the administration team:
Sorry cannot think of a legitimate "bump" other than I want to collect all of the donations pledged by the good people of the CBF.
-
Time to bring this to an end.
At the outset, I confess that I worried that this was over ambitious, especially after the World Cup Bus debacle. And so it proved when I failed to fill the grid. This meant that instead of
£ 650.00 only £ 550.00 would be raised.
That was until the magnificent CBF membership rode to my rescue once again.
Through various degrees of generosity, some quite outstanding, I am delighted to tell you that you have raised £ 700 for underprivileged children in Calis and the surrounding areas.
So, no matter the size of your donation I’d like to thank each and every one of you.
PS If you were kind enough to choose a square and still want to donate please feel free to pm me on here.
-
Great going H and very well done.
Come on members who did choose a square and have not paid, please pay up and help to raise the total.
-
A promise is a promise,--------------------------------so please don't let the kids, or John , down. ;)
-
Jacqui, kevin3
There maybe a variety of reasons why people have not donated.
They may not have been on the Forum since the twelve days were up, they may have, God forbid have suffered a family bereavement or they may simply have forgotten. Indeed they may have made a donation to another good cause.
After all it is a charitable donation and as such purely voluntary. And I am extremely grateful to everyone who did donate
-
Very noble of you H. However, think Kevin and I can speak out and we say PAY UP !!!!!!!!!!!
-
A great effort 'H'
Well done to everyone involved :)
-
I agree with H, there could be a very good reason why the handful haven't paid so let's just be really proud of the fantastic sum raised by H's efforts and the generosity of forum members.
-
At today's rate 5.200tl.. That makes a huge difference to the kids waiting for hearing aids and operations etc. In the area. Brilliant John as you were also collecting for Embrace at the same time. Well done..
-
Well done H - what would we do without you? Thank you x :)
-
At today's rate 5.200tl..
Where are you buying at that rate?? Could do with that one, more like 3.50 tl here ;)
-
h you said you would send me details to pay i will pay through paypal
-
Humble apologies puma - I will pm you on here. :-[ :-[ :-[
This is perhaps a classic example. Puma did ask me way, way back on the 12th how she could donate. I then asked if she had paypal and if so I would email the details.
Puma has been waiting for me to give her details and I have been waiting for her to confirm that she does use paypal. A simple misunderstanding
My apologies once again puma and thank you for your support. :)
-

I did also wonder liz101. Perhaps it was the 12 days of Christmas and The Family.

Sent you a PM, H.

Thank you so much for your generous donation. :)
