Title: The Twelve Days of Christmas
Post by: Highlander on October 26, 2014, 14:25:15 PM
For new members:

Every now and again I try and raise a few pennies for the Calis Childrens Charity (the 3C’S) so that they can continue their outstanding work in helping local children who have very little.

This one is ambitious (not over ambitious I hope) in that I do need lots and lots of people to take part. But we do have lots of new members and fingers crossed that they will help those who regularly do. Remember it's for poor kids.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(http://s2.postimg.org/e02nybm6t/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

Behind the squares in the grid there is (1) partridge in a pear tree , (2) turtle doves, (3) French hens, (4) calling birds, (5) golden rings, (6) geese, (7) swans, (8) maids, (9) ladies, (10) Lords, (11) pipers and (12) drummers.  Members will be asked to choose a square or two. Hopefully enough will to fill the grid.

I will reveal what is behind each square over the 12 days.

If you have been good enough to take a square, you will be asked to donate £ 1.00 for each of the corresponding numbers in the song. For example, if a calling bird is behind C5 you would be asked to donate £ 4.00.

PLEASE REMEMBER taking part in these things is NOT a condition of CBF membership and that there is no requirement whatsoever to participate.

2. by cheque or cash. If you message me on here I will give you an address you can use and

3. paypal. Again, message me on here and I will give you the address.

Have you used the Forum recently.

Did enjoy your visit ?. Did you find it informative, funny, stimulating ? Did it help you answer a question you had. Did you read about the wonderful work the 3C's do throughout the year ?

Would you like to help them help children you have very little ?. If so all you have to do is take a square or two.

Well over half full now but still quite a few squares to fill.
I must say I have just had to go to the top of the thread to re-read how this competition works and I am still a bit confused, but them it could be that we had a 4.00 am early start for the car boot this morning. John, please can you run through again how it works and when you will need to have all the squares filled in for so that you can start revealing what is behind them. Thanks   :)

Title: Re: The Twelve Days of Christmas
Post by: Highlander on November 23, 2014, 16:55:08 PM
Behind the squares in the grid there is a number between 1 and 12 which represents a line from the song - (1) partridge in a pear tree , (2) turtle doves, (3) French hens, (4) calling birds, (5) golden rings, (6) geese, (7) swans,  8 maids, (9) ladies, (10) Lords, (11) pipers and (12) drummers.

There is one square that has a 1, two squares that have a 2, three squares that have a 3 etc., etc.

I will reveal what is behind each square over the 12 days.

If you have been good enough to take a square, you will be asked to donate £ 1.00 for each of the corresponding numbers in the song. For example, if a 4 is behind D1 you would be asked to donate £ 4.00.

Hope that explains it pi55y. If not let me know

You do still go down a very complicated route for your fundraisers John, however I am sure you know what you are doing  :)  :)
Title: Re: The Twelve Days of Christmas
Post by: Highlander on November 24, 2014, 13:40:47 PM
Not so echogirl 1 – it’s very straightforward   :). Bewva is correct – simples innit ;D.

Step 1 – forum member picks square
Step 2 – I reveal number in that square and ask for donation
Step 2 – children in Turkey benefit.

Seriously though the grid is filled with numbers as shown below but located randomly around the grid.

(http://s8.postimg.org/w59luttxd/grideg.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/w59luttxd/)

If your square has a 4 in it, then you are asked to donate £ 4.00.

If we manage to fill the grid then 4 people would be asked to donate £ 4.00 each.

Many people seem to have enjoyed the Christmas Fair and have been impressed with the 3C's hard work and organisation in staging it.

Choosing a square would seem a suitable way to say thank you.

Just a thought  :).

My memory is not what it used to be. Did I mention that there were only 27 squares left to chose from.  ;)

Please chose one to help the children.

By my calculation, with 23 squares available, there could still be between £105 and £265 on the board - surely we can get to "full house" between us.

Title: Re: The Twelve Days of Christmas
Post by: Highlander on December 18, 2014, 19:33:11 PM
I do hope that this post comes across as I mean it to and that it is not taken the wrong way..........

I have to be honest and admit to becoming slightly embarrassed with this now. I am of course massively grateful to everyone, like lotty, who has participated thus far.

But lately I have been “bumping” this thread in an attempt to encourage new participants to come forward and to fill the grid (which was probably always over ambitious on my part).

However, all I seem to have succeeded in doing is to get very generous people to take more squares than they already have. That was not my intention and I sincerely hope that was how it came across. (I am of course delighted that you have)

So, if I can persuade new participants that would be great but please, please if you have already taken a square do not feel obliged to take more.

If we fill the grid then so be it. If not, people who have taken part will know that they have help the kids once more.

That all having been said and as I said at the beginning of this thread PLEASE REMEMBER taking part in these things is not a condition of CBF membership and that there is no requirement whatsoever to participate.

Read over 4,000 times.  I realise it is not compulsory to donate to this Charity if you are a CBF member.  However, I look at it like this.   CBF has been an absolute mine of information for us for 9 years now, and frankly we would have been the poorer if we had not had CBF.  It has given us good tips to save money and great information on loads of topics and all for free, nothing to join.
So a donation to the Charities on this Forum is a great way to pay back for all the wonderful free information.  ;D  ;)

Absolutely agree Jacqui.

Ambitious on John's part not really considering the amount of people on CBF.  Whatever charities we chose to donate to John and the charity deserve our support.

So please fill the squares..

Post by: Highlander on December 18, 2014, 22:00:51 PM
I, perhaps unsurprisingly, agree ladies but with respect, we should always remember that members are free to decide for themselves.

Charity giving is, and indeed, should always be a very personal thing. And I am sure that many members donate to charities, such as Cancer Research and MacMilllan Cancer Support to name but two which are close my heart.

That having been said, I am equally sure that people who do donate to the 3C's also donate to other charities.

All that I/we can ask is that members consider the wonderful work that the 3C's do for children in an area which provides them (CBF members) with more pleasure than they (the children) experience day-to-day and decide to participate or not.

PS Posted before badger's masculine post   :)

Please put me down for another one.  I do agree with the post that we have all had the benefit of advice which has probably saved us money and time but also agree that it is a personal choice to participate in charity matters. I would think some people have their own preference for charities and give generously to those and there will be some people that just can't afford to give what they would like.  I try and give to whatever touches me when I hear about it and what I can afford at the time.  Since my daughter passed in Oct 11 I tend to give what I would have spent on her birthdays and Christmas presents and with Calis being her favourite place she would very much approve of my donations but I also give to other charities for young people.

You chose M5 which was 7 Swans a Swimming and M6 which 10 Lords a Leaping

So that's a total of £ 17.00 - I'm afraid the BMW may have to wait for now :o.

Seriously though, I do know that you already help the local charities, so it is very good of you to take part in this  :).

Thank you very much - I promise to have something other than the liver and bacon next time  :)  ;)

Sorry cannot think of a legitimate "bump" other than I want to collect all of the donations pledged by the good people of the CBF.
Title: Re: The Twelve Days of Christmas
Post by: Highlander on January 25, 2015, 19:47:25 PM
Time to bring this to an end.

At the outset, I confess that I worried that this was over ambitious, especially after the World Cup Bus debacle. And so it proved when I failed to fill the grid. This meant that instead of
£ 650.00 only £ 550.00 would be raised.

That was until the magnificent CBF membership rode to my rescue once again.

Through various degrees of generosity, some quite outstanding, I am delighted to tell you that you have raised £ 700 for underprivileged children in Calis and the surrounding areas.

So, no matter the size of your donation I’d like to thank each and every one of you.

PS If you were kind enough to choose a square and still want to donate please feel free to pm me on here.

Title: Re: The Twelve Days of Christmas
Post by: Highlander on January 25, 2015, 20:46:12 PM
Jacqui, kevin3

There maybe a variety of reasons why people have not donated.

They may not have been on the Forum since the twelve days were up, they may have, God forbid have suffered a family bereavement or they may simply have forgotten. Indeed they may have made a donation to another good cause.

After all it is a charitable donation and as such purely voluntary. And I am extremely grateful to everyone who did donate

Humble apologies puma  - I will pm you on here. :-[ :-[ :-[

This is perhaps a classic example. Puma did ask me way, way back on the 12th how she could donate. I then asked if she had paypal and if so I would email the details.

Puma has been waiting for me to give her details and I have been waiting for her to confirm that she does use paypal. A simple misunderstanding

My apologies once again puma and thank you for your support.  :)
