It's been a few years since our last visit to Calis, but we are now going back, but it's in May because of wife's holiday availability.
So just really making sure restaurants and bars will be open, along with other attractions.
I just noticed the water taxis have shut for the winter, but will they be running again in May?
Also, is it still best to take ££'s and change them up in Calis for better exchange rate?
Thanks in advance and see you at the Meeting Point. 8)

Without doubt better to take pounds (English ones) with you to change in Calis
-
May is a lovely month to visit. Everything will be open. Take Sterling and change to Lira.
If you visit about the 3rd week, the 3C's have a week of events, which is very good.
-
Agree it is best to take sterling and change it as and when - you get better rates over there. We always go the end of May - earlier in May is fine but maybe a bit cool in the evening.
-
Thanks for your quick replies.
We are going early May and staying at The Oykun Hotel for 10 days. Amazing deal too.
-
May is the best month to go I think - not too hot (but lovely normally), cooler in the evenings, the resort (and staff) fresh. Oh, and the Oykun is great too :)

We are hoping to be there for The Spring fair and auction next year.. Anyone got any ideas on dates ? Or is it too soon to ask? .x
-
Not too soon at all to ask for dates. I can inform you that Spring next year is from March 20th till June 20th.

Landing on 1st May and getting excited.
Hope you don't mind but sat in the 'rest room' at work and wondered if anyone would like to advise a daily itinerary? We've done all the trips apart from the Ghost Town, so will try and fit that in. But have forgot days of markets and the like. Also who does the best steak meal. Thanks :)
-
Calis Market on Sunday, go and have a pancake breakfast at one of the pop up restaurants. Fethiye Market on Tuesday, but just a larger, hot and more frantic version of the Calis Market.
Best to say what trips you have done so we can advise you.
Have you been to the Kings Garden in Fethiye for a meal? free pick up and return, up in the Rock Tombs, great views lovely meals. Book it here on CBF
Also the Istanbul in Kakaykoy (where the Ghost Town is) they have a BBQ night on Saturdays, 40 TL for three course meal, plus entertainment and free transport.
Sorry, cannot help you with Steak, :-X >:( ;) but would advise a trip to the Mozaik Bahce in Fethiye, always No.1 on T.A. and on this Forum, lovely freshly cooked Turkish food, and great staff. ;D

If I went to Kaya on say a Saturday night in May could we get a room to stay over ?
-
Yes, I am sure you could, Try Villa Rhapsody a lovely place to stay in Kaya. I have visted and I would recommend it.
Also, the Istanbul Restaurant have chalets at the back, but you would have to see if they would do just one night. ;D

Thanks Jacqui

Get yourself into Frank Canons (The Gunisik Restaurant along the strip in Calis) for the best Chicken Casserole in Turkey, plus superb dessert pancakes.
-
I second that, UBT. They do a really great chicken casserole. :)
-
Soon be there. Thanks for you input, some useful info.
Sadly it looks like things are a bit dearer than 5 years ago!
How much is a Effes now, looking forward to some of them :)

Hi Faze...........if you fancy a boat trip I can recommend Jerry's Boat from Fethiye. Better to book in advance either at Fethiye or from a travel agency in Calis opposite the Meeting Point restaurant (lovely meals there). We'll be following you into the Oykun, arriving on 31st May for two weeks. Not stayed there before but comments on this forum have all been positive. Enjoy your break.

UBT.............is the Gunisik towards the Sat restaurant (which I understand is now under new management), or the opposite way? I recall Scunner mentioning Frank Cannon's on a couple of occasions and I rather fancy a good, hearty chicken casserole. Cheers!
-
Gunisik aka Frank Cannon's is a little way up from The Meeting Point up the main Street.. Meatball casserole can't wait.... Best homemade chips in Calis...
-
Faze don't forget that the Lira is around the 4 mark at the moment so everything should be quite cheap still...

Thanks Dennis, I was going to ask about boat trips. Last time we took a boat trip from Fethiye, it was a nightmare, the Captain of the boat had his English girlfriend, who had her 10 year old (or so) son on board and he was a total brat, totally ruined the trip for us and others!
We don't want a party boat, just a nice trip with small numbers, and maybe a fish supper :)
-
Also you can book a boat trip at the water taxi office. Some of the boats do day trips. Our neighbours go on one every time they are over, they tell us they are very good, the Skipper's wife goes along and cooks the lunch.
Apparently, they are really good value for money. The neighbours are always trying to get us to go along, but we have never fancied the boat trips.

Hi Faze...........Jerry's boat is not a large one-number of passengers around 25. Pick up and drop off at a suitable point in Calis is included. Fishing rods are available for those who wish to try their hand during the trip and whatever is caught goes into the communal "catch" and is freshly cooked by Jerry on a barbecue on board along with chicken and other goodies. A wide range of tasty mezes in buffet style complements the cooked main meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and will definitely repeat the experience this time. I'm sure that the other boats in Calis and Fethiye offer an enjoyable day, but we prefer to stick with Jerry from previous experience. Whoever you choose, have an enjoyable trip and a great holiday.
