In 12 years of holidaying in Calis (and 6 weeks of living in the area)

I've done several Babadag flights and Microlight flights. It's absolutely amazing hovering
above all that stunning scenery below
-
Never been to Guvens
Never had a Turkish bath
Never sat on the beach
-
2. I have never eaten in Frank Cannon's, Mangel, Pastries & Pies, Pasa Kebab or Guvens.
3. I have never been on a 12 Islands Boat Trip.
You need to sort number 2 out Jacqui!!! Particularly Frank Cannon's and Pasa!
Number 3 is an excellent one - I have never done one either, and having been out and seen them going past, never will :)
-
I've never been in Frank Cannon's ;) :-[ :-[ :-[
-
Unbelievable
-
Hehe :)
-
I really don't like boat trips and as Phil is ex Merchant Navy and sailed to lots of places in the world, he does not like them either.
However, we must get around to giving Frank Cannon's a try.
-
Never sunbathed on Calis Beach and never will but pretty much done all of the others including jumping of Babadag.

Never had a Turkish bath
Never had a Turkish ice cream

Never had a Turkish bath

Korkorec is really nice, had it at the market with a nice cool Ayran
-
Must be something wrong with me because i have done the lot lol.
-
In 20 years, I have never;
1) Had a Turkish Bath
2) Eaten Kokorec
3) Been on a Jeep Safari
4) Married a Turkish toy boy :)
-
Well, I too have done most except jumping off Babadag, Did enough driving through Deserts
at high speed to last me a lifetime so not interested in Jeep Safaris and haven't eaten everywhere!
But what makes Calis special is you go and do the things more than once so you never get bored!
There is always another new Restaurant to try, another road to travel, another place to drive to. (Had wonderful
excursion this year to Pamukkale, Selcuk, Efes, Bodrum and Marmaris over 5 days). Calis Beach has something,
i can sit there for hours just looking at the beauty and enjoying the swim whenever you get hot.
Sundial is easy, head toward Ovacik from Fethiye, at the last lights where the main road turns right go
straight accross, up the hill its on the left! :)
Oh, and before anyone starts no I have never married a Turkish Toy Boy either :)
-
What at all are you all doing there then?
My thoughts exactly!
The only thing I've never done is go to Gocek Sunday Market.
-
Never seen a wild boar. (Well, not a live one.)
Never been to Çaliş for a meal.
Never been to Göcek Sunday market.
Never eaten kokoreç.
I have however seen dolphins swimming freely in the sea and jumped off Babadağ several times, so I'm quite happy. :)
-
I do not know about Gocek market, enough markets in Fethyie, but you MUST go to Gocek Marina. It looks like botanic garden. And they have great sand beach as well, though sand was brought from somewhere
-
Great topic, soya keys island and gocek are next for us to try, and I definatly want a game of bowls next time I'm over
-
Well, looks like nobody is admitting having married a turkish toyboy then??? :)
-
was just going to write exactly the same thing!!. I never married a Turkish toy boy but in the last 4 years I have been propositioned by several!!! ;)
-
Never been to Olu Deniz
Never jumped of a Mountain
Never eaten in Casa de Mamma
I would recommend any football fans to take in a game at Fethiye Spor as the atmosphere is special! ;)
-
1. I've never filled in an online survey
oh bugger >:(
-
In all my years of going to Calis I have never :
1. Got one of those £30.00 flights people tell me they bought.
2. Seen the bloke at the Visa desk smiling.
3. Bought a Burger King meal at Dalaman Airport.
-
Never used a taxi - hated their touting for business and were astounded by their expensive 'advertised' prices.
However, since we have 'arrived' can't believe how cheap their local metered rates are !!!
-
I can't say that I have ever found taxis, with very few exceptions, anything less than expensive in Turkey which is not surprising considering the price of fuel. Those exceptions happened when they were returning to "base". Then, if you are waiting for a dolmus, they'll slow down and shout a low fare at you just to defray the cost of getting back to the stand. The last time this happened to us was when we got dropped off from an intercity bus in Gunlukbasi and waited, with our luggage, for a dolmus just past the "uc yol" junction to Calis. Seeing us the driver shouted "5 Lira Calis!". Even a penny-pincher like myself couldn't say "No" to that. I guess this isn't the usual rate.
-
We use the same taxi driver all the time when we are over in Calis. We ring him and either he or his Dad comes out. We have never found him expensive. He is a lovely guy and even bought an anniversary present to our house the day after he dropped us off and we mentioned it was our anniversary. We have also been taken to his house to meet his new baby..
He charges about £2.00 to take us from our house to Calis Prom. However we always give him a bit more. We live at the back of Calis near Ciflik.
-
Never been to Guvens
Never had a Turkish bath
Never sat on the beach
Not missing anything with those three.mate
-
Lance
You have not told us your list.
-
I have never eaten Kokorec and now I know what it consists of I defo won't be,tho I have borrowed a sheepshead from a restaurant freezer to go put on the table for hubby pretending it was his anniversary pressie (with the permission of the restaurant owner!)
I have never been on a jeep safari and won't be doing so any time soon.
I have never leapt off any of the mountains and also won't be doing that any time soon.
I have never eaten in the evening at Mosaic this is the one thing we will be doing in 2015.
Have had loads of Turkish baths and will continue doing this as you just can't beat when the bubbles descend on you from the pillowcase and my tan defo lasts longer...
I have never jumped off any of the boats into the sea I would love to do this but can't seem to make myself for fear of what lies beneath! :)
-
Karen, you could have read my mind !
-
Ha so many memories I have its making me want to be there now ;)
-
I also have never jumped off Babadag and am not going to!
I have never been to Hisaronu in the evening.
I have never been to Cadianda although I hope to go this year.
I went to Pinara last year it is beautiful.
-
Perhaps "Beach" should be dropped from the title as it would appear most appear to dislike it.
1.Never been mad enough to jump off a mountain, but been threatened to be chucked off one though !!!
2.Never eaten kokerec- but will definitely try it now I know what it is.
3.Never made a visit to Kayakoy. But will
4.Not daft enough to do a jeep safari.
5.Never booked a package holiday to Calis.
6.Never been wealthy enough to buy any sort of meal at Dalaman airport.
It really makes me wander why we love Calis so much, but we all do.
-

I like it, I just don't want to be on it :D
-
Scunner, have you ever been to Marmaris? You have warned against being a "left-turner" but your avatar seems to imply differently. Or perhaps it is a political, rather than geographical, comment?
-
I have been to Marmaris many times. The avatar was originally chosen to reflect life as a forum administrator :)
-
1. Paraglide, think about it every year (bottle out :-[)
2. Never been on Calis beach
3. Never eaten in Calis
4. Never been on cruise from fethyie
-
was just going to write exactly the same thing!!. I never married a Turkish toy boy but in the last 4 years I have been propositioned by several!!! ;)
and.............? :)
-
I have never found a cheap flight to Dalaman, not in 10 years.
Phil has now retired, so we can go anytime now and from Scotland or the North of England. Looked at flights yesterday, leaving from Scotland, Newcastle, Manchester....nothing cheap for April/May/June
-
Jacqui
Best to keep an eye on Skyscanner as the fares do change regularly. We have generally found that it is more reliable to book in advance. For example our flights for this June we booked back in July, and our flights for next September were booked by October.
-
I will be arriving in Fethiye for 10 days the second week in April with Easyjet - 3 adults return flights from Edinburgh, booked seats and hold baggage total cost £547.68. These flights were booked when the prices/times were first announced on the first week of September 2014. There is normally a heads-up on both CBF and TA and no doubt Facebook and similar thingees when the flight details are announced. What with the free bus service for oldies in Scotland and deals with the major hotel chains it's not that difficult to get cheapish holidays these days - you think its bad from Aberdeen - I have to travel from north of Inverness!
PS
The dates were of necessity Scottish school holiday dates.
-
I could not have booked in September as Phil (who had not really decided about retirement) did not retire until October.
We have, today, booked flights from Glasgow to Dalaman, got quite a good deal. Also booked a cruise for another date, so looking forward to both.
Will remember this year to look out for flights early.
-
A ;D ;D ;D
As billy used to say book early. not paid more the£180 for next years flights.
-
Where do you live?
-
This year we will fly to Dalaman for our traditional October break from Leeds Bradford. Never been there in my life. Good times on Monarch flights and 4 returns for £125 each :D
Same dates from Edinburgh were £1100 so for a four hour drive to Yorkshire I win £600 to spend. My company's head office is 13 miles from the airport so I might call a meeting for the afternoon before and that makes it business mileage ;)
I've never paid excessive amounts for flights to Dalaman. I remember the days of Aegean and £70 return x4. I wouldn't pay it either. I am extremely flexible on departure airport and quite flexible on date - so, much as I love our October visit I wouldn't pay £265 return per person for flights to Dalaman, I'd just go somewhere else.
But I always seem to find decent prices.
-
I think we will too now Phil has retired. Before we where stuck to his holidays so could not spare any extra time.
Now we are free to travel anywhere. So, when we got to Glasgow may have a few days there.
-
We tend to make it all part of the adventure Jacqui - choose somewhere nice to stay if it's an early flight out (and/or back), take a scenic route if time allows, we always stop somewhere nice for lunch half way down. It's not a chore driving to the airport, it's all a part of the holiday :)
-
Not met anybody off the forum.
Never been to Sundial (tried once and ended up in a building site).
Never found Fethiye prison (doesn't inspire but like to know where it is).
-
The prison is passed the cemetery on the road up to Tasyaka and Ovacik\Hisaronu... Left hand side.. You will see an armed guard outside and a roof turret with a gun on. Lots visitors everyday taking food supplies to their relatives as they only get bread and water supplied..It is very overcrowded..
-
Anne, the prison ain't there any more. They have built a new one & moved all the inmates before Christmas.

We have decided to do the same as you do. So probably have some time in Glasgow. Also if we book for Manchester, will go to Liverpool, maybe see a match and then go back via the Lake District. It would now seem something of an adventure, so looking forward to our journeys. That is if Phil has the time to spare, now he has retired he is so busy, he does not know how he had time to go to work.

Prison ain't there but the building is being refurbished as a probation center.

In 56 years I've never won an arguement with my wife :( :( Who am I a mere mortal to argue with a female/ ;) ;)

Leeds Bradford is a great little airport, Scunner - only thing is that it is quite high up so if there is fog or adverse weather it can cause delays and cancellations quite quickly.
The usual solution is that they fly you to Teesside or Newcastle instead and bus you back to Leeds, but hopefully you will have a smooth journey each way! :)
-
If I can get flights for less than £400 a head x 4 to Dalaman these days, I think I'm doing well. I managed £390 a head this year (including seats, baggage and in-flight meals)
But that's just us poor parents buying in school holidays who are subsidising the rest of your airfares.
In 2013, I got a cheapie self-catering holiday to Gumbet in the last week of the season for less than £1000 for the four of us. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven, despite the fact it was Gumbet (not so bad when it's quieter).
-
From Aberdeen in May to June and in September/October, we have never paid less than £600 each for the two of us. I have always felt we have subsidised the flights from the London/Manchester Airports, plus we have very little choice of flight companies.
This week I actually went to Skyscanner and put in flights from any Scottish Airport and was surprised to find the cost of flights was over £1,000. So I went back to the websites of Thomson, Thomson Cook etc.,
-
Jacqui, skyscanner have several flights from Glasgow in May/June to Dalaman for less than £250
-
Why has this thread turned into "a Price of a Flight" :(
PS and without wishing to continue the theme - Ally B - only just if you want to take clothes.
-
At least it didn't morph into a Price-of-Efes chat, H.
-
How much IS Efes by the way.?
-

-
H, I think after over 5,000 hits, maybe the thread on things we have never done, has run it's course.
Anyway, it is par for the course on CBF to deviate from the initial thread and why not? Will the thread Police get us? ;D :o ;)
-
In all my years I have never had both barrels before. Back on topic. ;)
-
In all my years I have never paid more than £250 for a flight to Bristol or Cardiff.
-
Jacqui, we got flights for beginning Sept from Glasgow for approx £670 with TC,includes seat, meals and baggage, ?Thonsons wanted £1100, no chance said i.
-
Don, We booked seats with T.C. from Glasgow for May and got luggage, priority boarding, extra legroom seats for £634. This is the best deal we have had.
-
In all my years, I have never been in B52
-
In all my years, I have never been in B52
We must be getting old or it's showing. They used to give us flyers when we walked past, they don't bother now.
-
You must be younger than me, they never gave me flyers :)
-

Never drunk Efes
Never been to guvens

-
Just thought of some more :

Never been able to eat EVERYTHING put on the table for a Turkish Breakfast
-
Never bought a round of drinks in 6 years, and im not even from Jockland. ;) :D :D :D
-
In nine years i have never
1 Been in Scarletts
2 Seen the drummer early morning at Ramadan, heard him often enough
3 Met any other CBF member to my knowledge.
-
Never bought a round of drinks in 6 years, and im not even from Jockland. ;) :D :D :D
Not true
-
I have done most of the things others have written, but today I drove past a place and I have never tried it, Jimmy's soup kitchen. :)
-
Wouldn't bother if I were you!
-
Never bought a round of drinks in 6 years, and im not even from Jockland. ;) :D :D :D

I have never seen the old guy around the fish market area who cons tourists.
I have never been conned by the guy who offers to change your money in Fethiye.

-
Can't believe the people who haven't been on the beach?
Here goes then , in all the years we've been going (26) we've never
1, Paraglided
2, Eaten dinner anywhere in Calis other than on the prom
3, Been to the Sundial
4, Been to the mosaic place to eat
5,Done a jeep safari
6, Been diving
We will however be rectifying 3&4 on our next trip in June 2016 on our already booked reasonably priced monarch flights from Leeds/Bradford.
-
I think you must go to the Mozaik Bahce is it really good, try it next lunch time when you are over.
Sorry, I see no attraction in Beaches, in fact would love someone to tell me what the attraction is? Love to look at beaches, never want to sit on one.
-
In 14 years of visiting Fethiye I have never had a Turkish Bath.
I do not like cold water or pain - both of which (I am told) are part of the cleaning process.
Shaves/massages in the Berber are a delight but I don't fancy being grappled and turned inside out.
....and yes, I am a wuss.
-
Never had one either. I have had two frozen shoulders in the past and never want anyone pulling my arms as my shoulders would not take it.
Phil and the family have had them though.
-
I've not succumbed to that particular Turkish delight either.
Not a fan of too much touching.
-
I have never had:
A Turkish person shave me (or anyone else for that matter) :)
Been to the Sundial (only 'cos I have never found it)
Been paragliding (only 'cos I am too tight to pay the money)
A meal or even stopped in Ovacik.
-
I never know where Ovacik ends and Hisaronu begins and it seems neither do the locals. I only go to Ovacik for my visits to Goldfinger and the Garden Centre. I have asked people there where the boundary is and everyone has a different opinion.
So, spo6666 chances are you have stop in Ovacik :)
-
As a resident, I would say that Ovacik begins as soon as you get to the top of the hill coming up the winding road from Taşyaka, Fethiye.
I reckon it ends just as the road curves right about 50 yards after GoldFinger and the new mosque that is currently being built.
I have also never been on a banana boat or ringo.
I have not yet been to the other side of the lagoon to Billy's Beach/Sugar Beach etc.
Never walked round the Ghost Village in Kaya either.
-
Never been for a night out in Hisaronu
Never been to Sovalye Island
Never been to Gocek Sunday market
Never visited the Ghost Town in Kaya
Never had a Turkish bath
Never had a Turkish ice cream
Never watched a belly dancer
Never had an Efes
Don't know where Sovalye island is, never been there.
Have done the rest the best being the Turkish bath. Boy, what an experience!
Also have jumped off B mountain and paraglide (just last June). Good but not great - best parts were taking off (thrill) and landing (yikes!).
Never been to Ovacik or Hisaronu - maybe next time in a few weeks.
Never scuba dived, though love snorkelling
Never swum with Dolphins (would love to).
Never been to mud baths (yuk)
Never eaten at Mosaic (where is it? Worth going?)
Done jeep safari in Portugal (never again - can do without all those spine jarring bumps)
