It's not my idea of a good name for someone. It was my dad's middle name, and he had that due to a much loved uncle. But the one good thing about being called Keith is that my dad got his choice. Had my mum won, I would apparently have been Hamish. :o

I take your point.

And who are we to disappoint your dear old Ma, Hamish.

We could have shortened it to Ham, and your nick name would have been Olde Oak, or do you prefer Scun.?? :)

Hamish is not an uncommon name in our area, so it does not seem out of the ordinary. It is a good Scottish name. As is Keith. There is a place not that far away from us called Keith.
I am always amazed at the names of children in my Granddaughter's nursery and wonder will these names stand the test of time.
A good way to know is to hear a name and then give it the O.A.P. test. A cute name now may seem a bit strange on a an O.A.P. in 60 years time. One child I know in our area is called Halo another is Dior and one more is Marhequi-Bow (all girls names) My Granddaughter's best friend is Remi. I hope she does not grow up and marry Mr Martin. ;D

I think Hamish is a great name, it sounds very strong. Nothing wrong with Keith at all. ;) Like Jacqui, I worry about how some of these daft names will sound in a few years when they are grannies and grandads themselves.

My dad was called Keith, never thought there was anything wrong with it.
I can think of much worse!

We have a friend whose two older brothers have names starting with a "C". When he was born his Mum told his Dad to think of a name staring with "C" for the new baby. They called him Cuthbert!!! However he has always been known as Cubbie. He told me he wished he could have been born first and been called Colin.

I think they should bring back some of the old names. I had uncles Ophani, Ezekiel, Malakim, Zakari, Hashmallim, Elohim and a few others with biblical names.

My first real boyfriend was named Keith. Whenever I hear the name I get a warm feeling. We did get in touch again via Friends Reunited, he now lives in New Zealand but I will always have fond memories of that name.

My Dad was called Keith Michael.. Everybody except my Number called him Mick... My Mum had other names for him after he left her after 39 years of marriage.. U couldn't write them in here...
