Title: Bridge closed to high-sided vehicles
Post by: Highlander on January 10, 2015, 20:33:01 PM
Is that a legal thing or just advice.

Assuming that it is legally binding thing with the Clackmannanshire Bridge this lorry was travelling on, can the driver be prosecuted. I would throw the book at him.

I came home on Wednesday night from Harrogate and the entire A66 from Scotch Corner to the M6 was closed to high sided vehicles. A1M signs warned of this from ages before the A66 turn. There were loads of high sided vehicles using it.

It's advisory, but because he ignored the advise, he could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention and his company's insurers are unlikely to pay out.

It's a similar situation with the advisory speed limits on matrix signs. You can't be prosecuted for exceeding the advisory speed, but if you have accident whilst ignoring them, the police can charge you with driving without due care and attention and you insurance could be invalid.

I have experienced it often on the Kessock Bridge.

God forbid that the lorry in the photo had toppled the other way as a vehicle traveled the other way

The question is though, did this truck overturn before the closure or after?   ???
