The Lokanta on the site of the old Irish bar in Calis has now gone, it is another restaurant, same people own it and he has a "top chef coming from Istanbul"
-
Probably worked as chef at the Savoy too, all the former Savoy chefs appear to have moved to work in Calis :D
-
I herd that
-
You've probably worked with them all Pete :D
-
Just what we need, another 'Top Chef' specialising in : Rice, Chips and Salad!! ;D ;D
-
What a shame - we really enjoyed our meals there, we used it regularly for lunches and evening meals. it was such good value and was different to the other restaurants.
-
We only went once last year and it wasn't as good as other Lokantas We've been to and it never looked busy
-
Was this the Sini Restaurant run/managed/owned by Bekir Ulosoy?
-
Yes..
-
This is such a shame.Ate there a few times and was impressed with the food.Typically Turkish.People often complain about 'same old, same old' along the prom but when someone does try to make money doing something different they just dont get the clientelle
-
Yes I agree it is a shame to see it go - the 'clever' ones amongst us complained for years about another "Rice Chips & Salad" restaurant opening, or another Italian, Chinese etc. It was quite obvious that what was lacking was a traditional Turkish Lokanta in the heart of the resort - why copy someone else's menu when a lokanta would make a bomb in Calis centre.
I was one of those clever ones. So I'm doubly sad to see it go, and in doing so prove us all wrong.
-
This is def. NOT a chips rice and salad place.
Had two very nice meals there........ stroganoff serviced with matchstick potatoes, plain fillet steak served on a potato cake .......
The menu is not a photo copy of the standard Calls Menu ......
Bekir is hoping to return to the Old Orient Express site and has retained his chef from there.
Thoroughly recommended.

It seems that Calis does not want traditonal Turkish food. I think we only have to look at the Restaurants section of this Forum. There we see questions like " Where do we get the best steak?" or when a Restaurant is reviewed and recommended we see "Had a wonderful fillet steak" :( :-X
Now a restaurant that only did steak would take off like a rocket in Calis. ;D ;)

I think that there is room in Calis for this type of place, you only need to look at Seckin in Gunlukbasi for how good it can get. However this place was not a patch, maybe people spoke with their feet we did
-
We always thoroughly enjoyed our meals at the Sini lokanta, but, as with other lokantas, it does depend on what food is left when you get in there. Guess we were just lucky and got the meals we wanted and enjoyed. We agree there is a need for a lokanta in Calis, and it is a shame that the Sini has gone.
-
Was it generally busy? It is such a shame - mind you Frank Cannons is off the "RCS" menu in the cheaper direction and you can struggle to get a table in there sometimes.
-
Never seen it full Scunner, they burned the pied when we wear there but still served it!Frank Canons I would recommend to anyone, food ,service and prices always great
-
Chatted to the owner today, he said the British people just weren't interested.
Their new menu is huge, Gordon Ramsay would have a field day cutting it down.
Good luck to them, nice hardworking people.
-
Not only Brits who holiday in the area.
-
Only relaying what he said
-
I still mourn the closure of Sardunya across from Scarletts. Their homemade red wine was lethal too.
-
The wine was also cheap and they gave you a great big glass full. Pity the place is still unoccupied.
-
I had a very bad experience in Sardunya ;)
-
We miss Sardunya too, especially their liver and onions! It was a great place to eat, I can remember being so full after eating there the first time I could barely walk back to the Hotel and it was only the Oykun, almost across the road! : :) It's the bread wot did it!! ;D ;)

Over the years of reading your posts about bars you seem to have had bad experiences in most places - or at least experiences that required extended recovery.
-
He just wants to take his medicine. A large Scotch whisky three times a day until he feels better. ;D

Steve I can't agree with you re Seckin. We used it often and indeed loved their food but last May the service was absolutely horrendous and slow. We were ignored completely one evening so decided to call time and didn't use it at all on our second visit.
On the other hand we loved Sini and had a few good meals there last year. Sorry to hear it's closed
