Title: Rural England
Post by: Colwyn on May 23, 2015, 16:52:00 PM
I went up to watch our local cricket team this afternoon in the local ground "Sleepy Hollow". Cloudless sky and 22C. Cricket on the village green; what could be better.

Looks lovely doesn't it? The village green with a background of the heavily wooded slopes of Purdown. Could be anywhere in the South Cotswolds - except for the fact that Stapleton Village is a suburb of Bristol. Stapleton C.C. has a claim to fame. The world's most famous cricket player used to play for them. Today's team were put in first and scored 345 (off 50 overs) against Bristol YMCA - who were definitely men (rather big ones) may, possibly, be Christians, but - most assuredly - are not young. I think Stapleton will see them off and start the season with four wins out of four matches.

We see a lot of village cricket all around the area in which we live. I quite enjoy watching it, but last weekend, Lorraine & I travelled to about 5 different , normally empty doggy walking places, before we found one where there wasn't a match taking place , pain in the bum really.   >:( I was sorely tempted to " unleash the beast ", & then watch the fun,   : :) but the wonderful Lorraine " talked me out out of it " PDQ  !!!!    ;)

Unclear as to which beast might have been unleashed - please clarify!

I always make a point of checking my flies before getting out of the car.  ;)

As predicted, Stapleton won the match with YMCA only managing 97 all out. Knew you'd be waiting on tenterhooks for the result.

No surprise really. The YMCA team was at a disadvantage.
