Title: Curry Palace
Post by: tinkerman on May 31, 2015, 08:27:18 AM
Eight of us went out last night to the Curry Palace after hearing some rave reviews and we were not disapointed   :) all the meals were very nice and the service was good.
They do a special choice menu at 29 lira which is excellent value, no complaints at all, I believe the chef is from Bradford.

Will definately go there again  ;)

We went a couple of weeks ago and I was really disappointed the chicken tikka masala had a really gloopy sauce that tasted like it came out of a bottle.  Phil though his meal was O.K. nothing to rave about.  Service was slow even though the place was empty and the staff seemed lke they did not know what was gong on.  Perhaps things will change as they get further into the season.
I see they have another place in Hisaronu.
We would not return and IMHO The Calis Beach Restaurant Indian is far superior.

like I said, we went there last night and it was excellent, plenty of staff and the service was very good, no complaints about any of the eight meals, and we will return.  :)

Where's the Curry Palace please?

It's above the Beach House, apparently staff at the Beach house are telling the customers before they go up the stairs it is the same place, it isn't!

We have been twice now and the food and service was excellent both times. Also very good value for money.

Just goes to show...perhaps we hit them on a bad night.  No drinks, then asked again, then someone came over to confirm what drinks we wanted, then we got our drinks, but no water as order, so asked again. .  Asked for boiled rice on both as we prefer it, watched guy write it on his pad and then confirm ricegate with us.  Phil got boiled I got fried, so we switched over rices...good old Phil.   Nice setting, reminds me of the old La Terrace, like to people watch on the balcony up there.
It was cheaper than The Calis Beach, but not a patch on them as far as I was concerned.

Another thumbs up for CP from me.  My mum was over for a visit the last couple of weeks and we ate there on three occasions, everytime was spot on- and all occasions ranging from just us eating there to a several tables also dining.  The setting is fab and service brilliant.  We were chatting to another table near to us & they agreed the food was also lovely
Excellent value for money I say.  ;D

I think our Jacqui didn't like it because her Beef Curry wasn't made with Aberdeen Angus meat.  ;)  :)  :)

Des, go back and read... I had Chicken, not beef,  Phil had lamb (as he always does) and said it was O.K.
Cannot get him to try steak or beef..

Not sure it was advice. I was merely wondering how your experience could be so different to everybody else's.

True, Phil saw nothing wrong with his dinner that evening and he liked the Peswari Nan, (I did too)  lots of coconut. Miy dinner was not good and hated the taste of the sauce it was in.
It happens Nick, sometimes someone has a bad meal in a favourite place of others.
One thing I wish for all places is that they would warm up the plates... I hate cold plates, if you are sitting at the prom and there is a breeze, food goes cold very quickly.

are you sure you are talking about the same place Lance? They have an excellent selection and they use hot plates Jacqui, two lots of friends went there on Wednesday night and both came away with nothing but good to say about the place.

We had hot dinner plates every time when we went , also the curries are served on a candle foodwarmer type thing..

I really think it boils down to personal preference.  There are restaurants that people rave about on here and TA where i've personally had diabolical meals and really don't see the hype about them..

My remark about hot plates was a general one and not specific to this restaurant.

So why put it on a thread about the Curry Palace? One of the few places that does use hot plates.

As far as I can see nick11 only made a comment or am I wrong.

Presumably that applies to nick11 or  again am I wrong.

5 of us went tonight, nothing wrong with the service or the food as such, except that none of the curries were nearly as (spicy) hot as we would have liked or had expected. Rogan josh was more like a korma & the vindaloo not too much more.  :(

Yes our friends told me, if you go there ask them to spice it up a bit more,

We went there last Saturday and found the same.I ordered a Vindaloo  extra hot and it was not even as spicy as a Madras. Also despite doing an excellent Peshwari Naan the Keema Naan was poor, more like a Wholemeal Bap with flecks of minced in it.Maybe its this new chef from Bradford.  ;)

In Calis if you want Indian, The Calis Beach Restaurant is the place to be.  They serve the food as you like it.

We tried the curry palace last week, we liked where it is, but for us, it was not as good as calis beach Indian,  where we were last night, enjoying an absolutely lovely meal.
We found curry palace food a bit bland.
