Anyone planning a day trip to the Greek islands...or have family members / friends about to holiday there....take cash, as widely reported by the news, there is no money in the cash points and most shops on the smaller islands do not or are reluctant to take cards. Despite of recent economic events, life appears to be counting as normal, food in shops, restaurants open, ferries running.

I think the Greeks will have to exit euro and bring back drachma, that way they can control there own inflation etc. and with what's happening in North Africa they could be posed to cash in on holiday traffic.

Still in Greece. Nothing much on the islands has altered, cash machines appear to have money, there was a long queue this morning. Better to bring cash still if you are planning a visit. Shops here have food in them, fuel at petrol stations and ferries operating as normal. Talking to Greek people yesterday, they said they had voted no as the prime minister has told them that by doing so Greece will get a better deal....

And, eventually, he may be proven correct.

Well so far he has played a blinder in terms of how he and his team (including departing FM) have addressed the siuation with the Greek people and how they handled/negotiated with the Germans, IMF and other assorted creditors.... next 48 hours are crucial to see if he can achieve greater solidarity from all of Greece's Euro partners to weigh in and alleviate Greece from the the austerity driven downward economic spiral.
