Pearl Knight, better half of of our original Administrator Dave (Crabbit) passed away after a very short and very brave fight with cancer. Pearl and Dave have been our friends since we first met them at Antalya Airport and had arranged to share a transfer to Calis in the depths of winter, over ten years ago.
We became very good friends when we all lived in Calis, and later when they moved to Koycegiz, we used to go and stay with them for the weekend to get away from the hassle and gossip (normally about us!!) in Calis. They moved back before us and since 2008 (when we moved back) we have spent time several times a year when they would come to ours or we would visit Blackpool where they had settled.
Pearl was definitely no nonsense - if she didn't like someone she couldn't hide it :D - and like Dave didn't keep opinions to herself. That's what made them so compatible I think ;)
That is one of the things that kept us close as friends for all those times and all those house moves - Pearl just took us for what we are, whatever our situation was - and I don't ever recall her judging us, or talking about us - not even once. She'd speak her mind for sure, we valued the fact that it was to us, not what we had been used to so much - to someone else behind our backs while pretending to be a friend. She was a real friend and would do anything she could for us if we needed someone's help.
Dave is naturally crushed at this time - they were a formidable and devoted couple - and I had no idea whether to post this or not as I would want to respect his opinion. But I decided that if I do he might be annoyed and if I don't he might be annoyed so I decided to let the many people on CBF who were friends or knew them, know the awful news.
I can't do RIPs or goodbyes...yet.

I know just how much you have wrestled with the impossible decision you had to make regarding posting this dreadful news on CBF.
I also know of the great love you and your family have for Dave and Pearl and vice versa and that will surely see you through.
I did not know Dave and Pearl other than through CBF.
Brenda and I did however have the greatest of pleasure of sharing an evening with them arranged by your good self and Steph. A really splendid evening and one of those by the end of which you feel you have known each other ages. The legendary end to that evening will always make me chuckle.
It was immediately obvious that evening that Dave and Pearl were a couple in every sense of the word.
Dave, and his daughters, will be naturally devastated and I wish I could say that his and their pain will ease in time. But it will take a long time.
Our sincere condolences to Dave, his family and many friends - we are so sorry for your loss.
And to scunner and his family who have lost such a good friend.
R.I.P Pearl - another star in the heavens now.

Thanks John, your post has said exactly what I wanted to say but didn't know how. I met Dave and Pearl several times and was surprised at what a lovely couple they were having previously only seen Crabbitts posts on CBF. My thoughts go to Dave even more so as a very recent survivor of the big C myself. RIP Pearl.

I'm very sorry for yours and your family's loss, Keith.
I think posting on CBF was definitely the right thing to do. It would appear quite a few people knew and remembered Pearl and now they can post their thoughts.

Sorry to hear about Pearl.
We met Pearl and Dave a couple of times and got invited to a BBQ out in Koycegiz when we stayed there for a few days. Their company was great and what a laugh.
She as a lovely lady and certainly said what she thought. You could tell immediately that Dave thought the world of her.
Our condolences to you Dave and the family.

I can't do RIPs or goodbyes...yet.
I just wanted to return to this topic to say I can now, and that we travelled down to Blackpool yesterday to say our final goodbyes to our Pearly.
I find my original post fairly garbled - one of the things I wanted to share is what a rock Pearl was for us (and to Steph hugely) at times in Turkey. When so many expats would run across the road to shake your hand then return to their table to tell their friends what a total wa*ker you are, Pearl was a constant source of strength to us. Never once did we ring up to ask if we could come over to Koycegiz for the weekend and get 20 questions, or why, or what's going on. Question: Can we come over for the weekend? Answer: Of course.
Anyway, enough of that. We had a difficult but inspiring "Humanist" service - something I've never known before or even heard of = but it's a non-religious thing where you don't have to sing hymns about some bloke in the clouds and his son who made wine out of water, and you don't have to say Amen at the end of every paragraph. It was sort of uplifting with a sad sort of backdrop.
I would report that Dave is bearing up well, for those who care. The photo chosen for the order of service is one I took when they came up for one of our many weekends, I shall sign off by posting it here.
RIP Pearly, you possibly upset a few by speaking your mind in Turkey, but worth 1,000 of the smiling back stabbers we met over there.

Just a "wonderful" post in the circumstances and one that your friend will deeply appreciate.
R.I.P Pearl and Dave, Brenda and my thoughts are very much with you and your daughters.
-
Here here Highlander a lovely post Keith as Highlander says in the circumstances...that is good to hear Dave is bearing up well.
Lets hope a cure is found for this totally wicked disease sooner rather then later.
-
From the heart Keith, well said. Lovely picture. Thinking of you Dave, and your family.
-
That must have been very emotional for all of you Keith. I've been to several Humanist services and they are just beautiful and so personal. God bless Dave and give him time to go from strength to strength. A beautiful photo also. xxx
