Title: Beach question for the day
Post by: Steve (redding43) on August 17, 2015, 09:13:41 AM
Need to find a beach for the day as the pool is being treated. After reading the various posts on the water condition at Calis I want to avoid that area.

We have been to the private beaches at Olu Deniz so know these but wanted others suggestions on where to go that are reasonably close by (we have a car)

As background we have 3yr and 15yr old kids so something with shade would be good, a toilet close by and access to get drinks etc if possible. A little sand if possible for sand castles and suitable for paddling

Thoughts?

Katranchi beach ios pretty good, on the road to the airport, approx 15 mins drive from Calis, it has all the amenities you require, or Gunluklu a wee bit further on.

Assume that Katranchi beach is signposted?

Aksazlar Beach, just round from Ikinci Karagözler - dolmuş stops right beside it.  Plenty of shade and prices for food and drink reasonable.

JF

Edit:  Sorry Steve, not sure if there is any sand - I've never been further than the bar!

We visited Gemiler (spelling?) beach earlier this year, despite bad reviews re: gypsies running it and ripping you off. It was absolutely beautiful, wooded areas for shade. Prices reasonable, beautiful scenery cafe clean, would certainly visit again.   :)

If you driver up the back of the Letoonia resort.. just go passed the shipyard in that direction.  There are some very nice quiet beaches up that way, mostly used by the locals at the weekend.  One of the beaches has BBQ's for you to use.

the water is a bit polluted there and we were advised not to swim in it! Nice place though.

Well if you have a car...... Patara Beach on the way to Kalkan or Itzuzu Becxh near Dalyan are amongst the best in the Med! Gemiler is lovely, use the sunbeds/cafe to the left as you head toward the Sea and of course depending on how much it is open KayaKoyu on the way there and back quite a good sight.

I too have heard that Calis Beach is now highly recommended by Andrex! Such a shame, really I loved sitting on the beach there and swimming but now ............ really put off!

Well, we made it to Katranci.. Was pretty busy with the campers but lovely and relaxing nonetheless Thanks for the suggestions guys. Patara is excellent but a little far for us to travel today.

I ventured to Calis on the water taxi today. I was surprised that the beach was very busy and thier was plenty of people in the sea.

Kıdrak Beach just past Ölüdeniz - best beach in the whole area and much quieter. Not sure if pedestrians need to pay to enter but if you have a car you will.

Sorry it's too late to be of interest...

Still of interest Nichola as we are looking for somewhere else tomorrow. Any basic directions you can share if I'm driving there?

Kuleli, which has had lots of work done to it? Carry on past Letoonia, past buyuk and luck Samanlik and it is the last beach. Also Inlice beach which is a left hand turning before Gocek when heading that way.

Steve, drive to Oludeniz and just past the knocked down entrance archway (not sure if it has been replaced) at the bottom of the hill turn left. It's the last turning that will take you anywhere other than into Olu.

Anyway drive towards Liberty Hotel previously Lykia World and its just before there.

It's the same road that will take you to Faralya and Kabak but it is literally just round the corner from Oludeniz.

Not sure what if any facilities they have there now in the way of buying snacks or drinks so I recommend you take your own. What was there before was very basic anyway. We used to love going there to have a barby but it all changed hands last year and all that stopped.

But lovely clean almost people free beach, enjoy   :)

Thanks all. We decided that facilities were more important than peace and quiet so went to Kuleli Koyu Fethiye as suggested by Diana. Absolutely lovely place that has been kept really well. Love the seating and the waterspouts for kids of all ages

Will be going back later in the week

the news re pollution of Calis and Koca Calis beaches is terrible! You'd think the tourism authorities would do something - and fast!

Loved going to Kuleli Koyu but since they decided to have "music" banging out constantly all day and night I've given the place a miss.....

The music was certainly less intrusive when we went this time, only lifting into the evening. That said you could hire one of the cabanas at the far end of the beach and probably would hardly hear it at all.

This time around we hired a cabana right next to the stage area and didn't find it intrusive at all

is there a dolmus to Kuleli Koyu

Yes there is. I assume from the Dolmus terminal. Can't remember what name it had in it but they have an orange front

Tasyaka -Karagosler is the Orange dolmus to take you there. Coming from Calis you can swap when the your dolmus turns the corner after the big Migros. It goes straight along without turning into the dolmus ottogar.   :)

Head towards fethiye. Hugging the bay road. Keep going past the boatyard and then go whichever direction you like around the peninsula (it's one big loop). You will see signs along the way
