Title: I'm not selling my place but......
Post by: SteveJ on August 25, 2015, 19:47:17 PM
the Turkish family who own the duplex above mine are (top left in this photograph). My place is bottom left and Buddy from CBF owns bottom right. That's me just coming down his steps after trying (and failing) to cadge an Efes from him.  :)

It would certainly be good to get our small piece of heaven back into the hands of four British owners again as it was when we all bought (from Keith) in 2008. If anyone on CBF is thinking of or knows anyone who is thinking of buying a duplex with absolutely the best neighbours you could ever wish for then take a look at Aydin Apartments on Yerguzlar Caddesi - just along from Aydin Pide towards the canal.

Steve if you want to sell it, it would be better to post the estate agents details on here for everyone to see wouldn't it? Just a thought.

Sorry Keith - I've just realised that this thread is perhaps a "For Sale" advert. I won't do it again, promise  :)

Steve I'm not sure what the CBF policy is on advertising a neighbour's property for sale without their knowledge :D

For what it is worth it's a superb little group of 4 apartments in a brilliant location for the seafront. Dodgy British neighbours though.

Looks nice, and we are looking to buy another apartment. Too bad we are Dutch, and therefore not qualified... :P

Just because you are Dutch does not stop you buying in Calis.  We have Dutch neighbours and know other Dutch people live in Calis.

Thanks Jacqui - I lived in Amsterdam for some time and know that the Dutch people, like the Brits are on the whole very friendly, polite and trustworthy.

Calis2002 - I'll PM you.

Karennina - I'll PM you as well.

It was indeed a case of Dutch humor   ;)
And I do like to think we Dutch are nice and trustworthy (well, most of us anyway  ;D)

So you like living/spending time in Turkey but only want British neighbours?

Perhaps you should consider selling up and buying in the UK.

What makes you think he'll get British neighbours if he buys in the UK lol

Menthol - I'll give you an example of why I'd prefer to have British neighbours.

When my granddaughter arrived a few weeks ago for a holiday in my place she discovered an extension cable running from the upstairs duplex down on to my terrace and plugged in to my outside socket. When she went to Olu Deniz for a day out she returned to find twelve people sitting on my terrace using my dining table and chairs to have their evening meal. There were so many of them that they had extended the table so that they could all get around it.

At least if my neighbour had been British they would have understood "What the F'ing Hell do you think you are doing? >:(

I'm not getting into an arguement with you about the rights and wrongs of my appeal but it's my appeal and I'm entitled to it.

I am not saying all Turkish neighbours are the same, but a few years ago we went to Istanbul for 5 days.  We had been staying at our place in Calis and just took the plane up to Istanbul during our stay.  When we returned we noticed our BBQ was missing from our veranda.   After a while we noticed it in the neighbour's garden. They had been in our garden taken the BBQ and used it.  We went over and took it back.  It had been lying for a while and was filthy.   We took ages to get it cleaned.   We then were told by the Maintenance Company that the neighbours were  sending their children and the children's friends into our garden to use our pool when we were not there.
They had made a hole in the hedge so they could get though.  After this we put up a fence around the garden.
We have many lovely Turkish friends but, it would seem sometimes Turkish neighbours may not be the best.

My son's neighbour sneaked into the garden and "borrowed" his parasol the other night.  The neighbours were having a BBQ and it must have rained.  They returned it the next day by sliding it under the gate - complete with rips.   There are hard-faced sods everywhere! >:(

Bluewise, was that in Turkey or the UK?  (Trying to find a question face image but have been unsuccessful)

Got to be in Turkey, seems a no brainer to me... When did we have any weather good enough for a BBQ and also needing to use parasols???    :)

I've known the extension lead/outside socket a number of times, sadly. They never seem to do it to other Turks in my experience. Possibly a result of the "You are British, you can afford it" mentality.

We had fantastic neighbours - nearly all Turkish in the street and those we backed on to. Dare I suggest it...things were better in the good old days  ;)

We found the Farmers at the back of us jumping over the wall and putting a hose attachment onto our tap, to water their crop.  We had to blank off the tap and put it around the back on our veranda.  Then we found a woman farmer, walking around the front onto our veranda to fill containers.  This after we had saved all our scraps to give her for her animals.   We told her not to do it again and she was amazed!!   I suppose they think we are rich, so  they have every right to take our water.
However, on the other hand, the Farmers further up, who come and graze their animals on the field in front of our place are lovely, we save scraps for the animals and the old lady, who brings the sheep and goats,  give us eggs, vegtables etc.,

Menthol - just in case I haven't convinced you. ....

There are stairs between the two halves of the building leading up to the duplex apartments on the first floor. My neighbours have been seen climbing up onto my roof, walking across my terracotta tiles and then climbing over their balcony rather than use the stairs. My sunbeds cushions have been completely ruined by being "borrowed" by them whilst they were covered in what I can best describe as Chip-pan oil. They hang their wet towels on my balcony rather than take them upstairs to hang on their own. They have not contributed one single kurus to the cost of the communal electricity.

You getting my drift yet?  >:(

Steve you have my sympathies. But I can't quite work out why they would do this?!!

Keith,  the only theory I could come up with that someone had gone out anf taken the key to the front door with them but had left the balcony door unlocked but they were seen doing this on a few occasions so perhaps it's just for the sheer devilment of it. >:( Who knows?
