Title: Cappadocia
Post by: Jacqui Harvey on September 07, 2015, 16:01:06 PM
Thinking of having a couple of days in Cappadocia this month.  Looked at a nice Hotel in T.A.
Any advise, is two days enough, what should we see and do and anything worth stopping at on the way?
We have have never been before, so though we would ask as I know CBF is the Oracle for good advice. We do not do beaches, so no use sending us to any.  Looking the balloon trip, looks good.
Thank you    :)

Here is more information than you ever wanted, Jacqui. For me, two days would have been nowhere near enough - it is a wonderful place.

Here is a link to a travelogue from which I have, by silly mistake, deleted the photographs.

I think this is the proper link:

P.S. Kapadokya is in Central Anatolia; no danger whatsoever of you coming across a beach.

We thought  Goreme was a good area to stay in and we did have a balloon trip which was great fun, nice if you can go with friends.  We also stopped over in Konya to have a look at the Mevlani museum. Konya also has a good hotel and plenty of shops. The caves in Cappadocia have a very good tour and I found the area lovely. The evenings can be a bit cool so you may need some warm clothing.

I would allow three days for the trip as it is such a long journey and you may need to relax a little.

Good luck Jacqui if you go. Kapadokya   are a good balloon company and you can book in advance if you want to be sure of a trip.

September is a great month for an air balloon trip warm but not mad hot and dawn is a bit later - dawn flights are recommended. Turkey Travel Planner is an excellent way to find out about Kapadoya and it has a section on air ballooning with links to the companies so you can make an advance booking - essential I think if you want to fly in a small cozy basket.

Those aren't picnic baskets Kevin. They are what you ride in.

I know that Mustafa the carpet man on the corner by the Megri in the centre of Paspatur used to take people on 2 or 3 day trips to Cappadocia. Apparently he was very good. I don't know the charge or even if he still does it. It's just worth finding out if you're around that area.

I am sorry to say the trip looks like it is off.  The weather is far to hot at the moment to do anything and the long range forecast is not giving us any cooler weather.  We will wait until next week to make a final decision and may choose to visit somewhere a bit closer.

We went to Cappadocia in July and had to go and buy long sleeve clothes while there, warm in the day, cool at night.
The coach will be air conditioned, I would say it will be a nice relief from the heat.

We were going to drive, but Phil is not keen as his back plays him up just at the moment and after looking at the times to travel  there and back, he thinks it is too much just now.  It was all my idea and he went along with it until he realised the driving involved..
No way we would get the coach.  We did a horrible journey lately from Scotland to Southampton and back.  We have decided no more coach journeys for us.

The bus was fab. No stress no worry and cake and tea at regular intervals, all included in the very low price.
Plenty of leg room and arrived bang on time.
Travelled overnight so slept most of it.

Turkish coaches are very comfortable with lots of stops, leg room and snacks provided. I've only been as far as Bodrum and back but it was great. Friends have travelled to Istanbul and were surprised how comfortable they were. Plus prices are very good.

Yes, Turkish coach services are far superior to those in the UK.

Don't miss the opportunity to go to Cappadocia.
It's magic.
You will want to go back.
Think of New York, Paris. It's as amazing and memorable  life experience.
It's on our bucket list to do again before we die.

A good Turkish bath massage may help your husbands back Jacqui. I don't know a particular one at the moment but in the past my husband and various friends went to a very good one in Ovacik.
As the trip to Cappadocia is about twelve hours I can understand your husband being reluctant to make that length of a journey. Maybe sometime in the future.

Fabian,  He was off work for over 6 months 2 years ago with a back problem and had to have an operation.  He was told it was not 100% successful and he will always have some pain and perhaps in future need a further operation.
He has found the massages at Goldfinger very good
