As you may or not be aware, I have had a rather upsetting 2015 so will find this winter challenging.
To make it easier for myself and others in a similar position how does the following sound? To you.
This is aimed at, (but not only) for the attention of all the single/unattatched people within easy reach of Calis, who are not looking forward to being on their own over the winter months.
EJ’s on the sea front in Calis is a small cosy place with a various selection of games: Okey, Cards, Domino,s Upwords (similar to scrabble)and some board games.
I feel that playing these type of games help people to get to know each more easily without any fear of pressure from either side and you get to “weigh” up the other people there.
I am not suggesting a dating service nor matchmaking, just for somewhere to go to meet people who are in a similar position as you and me, who want to socialise with others and perhaps make winter a lot more pleasant, not only for themselves but for other people.
I am not suggesting it being a club with a committee or anything like that, as I said before, just a kind of meeting place with no-one being “The Boss”.
There is nothing like this to my knowledge in this area at all and I think there is a need for one.
As a lot of you know, Jessica does home cooking and baking for those who want to eat.
If you are interested in this idea, please make a comment to that effect.
If the response to this suggestion, is favourable, we could look into a first time meet, however, the games will be available for use every day EJ’s is open for your use at any time.

Sounds like a brilliant idea, hope it takes off for you. Good luck. :)

Might be a good idea to extend it to visitors too. I was speaking to a lady on a F.B. Forum who is coming to Calis for the first time next June, she is a solo traveller. I am sure she would appreciate something like this.

Good idea Jacqui. Though I know snowtop had intended this to be for meet ups during the winter months when obviously not much happening, I wonder if it could also be extended through to summer. We got friendly with an elderly gentleman this year who, although not his original intention, was on holiday on his own. He was very sociable and easy to get on with and I think would have been interested in something like this, though I do realise that it may not be as easy when the bars/restaurants are busier in the summer.

This is open to visitors as well. It isn't a closed shop, it is open to anybody.
As I said before I was aiming at single people but couples are more than welcome also.
This is aimed at winter months, not summer.

If you are looking at Summer time, you need to speak with either Jess or Ender at EJ's

Great Idea Snowtop good luck

Could the moderators add a new section for this subject something along the lines of " A Winter meet up place ". Keep it light hearted where the singles and solitaries can meet and greet at their leisure. Regulars could post what days they visit or intend to, it may spur the less confident to do the same.
Great idea snowtop hope it works for you and others alike.

What a great idea, not just for Calış but for the many other places like it.

We could add a "What's on in Winter" topic which we could make a 'Sticky' (i.e. it always stays on top even if newer posts come) - it could stay to of the Calis Beach info section through the quiet season?
-
also only a suggestion sounds like a good idea why not start up with a time and day like tuesday aro 7 and sat aro 5
-
There are SO MANY places in Turkey like Çaliş which "die" in the winter. But nobody ever publishes a "what's on" thing for these places during the winter.
And some tourists actually prefer to come to quiet Turkish towns during the winter.
So why not market "what's on" in Turkey, during the winter?

There is also a Fethiye friends Facebook group.
They organise trips out for singles and couples, for example they recently went to Akyaka for a few days and next week are off to Koycegiz market for the day.
They will also be having board games and get together so during the winter.
I don't know if you have Facebook Snowtop, but if you do maybe you could join this group and post the info on here for people who don't have it and bring FB and CBF together instead of having breakaway groups?
-
Can't be easy Snowtop but it seems that you have many friends on this forum.
Good luck with all that you are hoping to achieve.

The people who went to Akyaka were all women I believe and it was with Fethiye Expat Friends (FEF for this post).
FEF site, as far as I understand, is for expats living in Fethiye area only, not for UK personnel or for Turkish people.
I believe this is because there are other forums where the Turkish people can and do join and the instigator for the site wanted it that way.
That is why it is called Fethiye Expat Friends.
If anyone is interested, may I suggest that they go onto the FEF site which is also on FB
As for the board games, FEF are no longer are involved with that side as EJ's on Calis beach is the place for that kind of entertainment.
