Title: Senay Ocakci Gunisik restaurant
Post by: Toky on November 09, 2015, 14:54:01 PM
For those who know him, Senay has been in quite a serious car crash avoiding 2 pedestrians on last night of his season. He has head injuries which wont be life threatening thankfully. His car is wrecked and he is badly shaken. He is a fantastic character and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Hi everyone - I am the "someone"  :-)

I had an "email share" with Keith before coming on to this forum, and he pointed out this thread.  Thank you - because all the activity we have been doing is on Facebook.  And we are running out of any context that keeps this whole thing "sensible" rather than one "big begging bowl".

Current situ is that Senay is housebound, loads of stitches in his head, with a very sore back and legs - and facing a bill of YTL 6000 to put their car back on the road.  All of that during the "season of no income".  So we set up a "crowdfunding page" through JustGiving.

The link is http://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/senay-nuran

>>> off the record (!!) a few of us are concerned at the "head games" all of this is playing in his mind - as he sits there housebound, no fishing, no fresh air, and no mobility (legs or a car) even when he is mobile. Secondly this is a family thing rather than just a "car".

So - please - if you want to help with any and all of that: visit the link, and do what you can (donations of £900.00 - target of £1650.00 - raised in around one week).  It has three more weeks before JustGiving closes the page.

A big thank you to Keith - and to each of you reading this.  Paul xxx

Toky/Rosemary, thank you for staring this thread - and for your warm welcome.

Senay was "blown away" when he found out why Facebook had so many links to a picture of his mangled car. One thing we all know is that he is real softie under the " joker exterior".  If (when?) the target is achieved  - even then it will be just one step in them getting back to "normal". But ...

When real people step-in as is happening right now - that is a real and loving embrace from all us - around all of them.  And that is massive!

(If that sounds like a "sales pitch" ... I guess it is! Thank you all again    :) )

Paul

Big thanks Keith, might be psychic forces at work!  A FB CBF post popped up in my newsfeed and I had the same thought. If I am doubling up, please delete or edit as works best - I do not want to irritate or confuse.

I have just learned of Senays accident. I am also on Fb, but somehow I don't get all the news I should be and have to rely on the good old CBF! As everyone else on here, I wish Senay a full and speedy recovery.   ;)

This may be a silly question, but did Senay not have his car insured ?
Title: Re: Senay Ocakci Gunisik restaurant
Post by: Lotty on November 17, 2015, 13:00:04 PM
We also thought that Jacqui. Not being on FB we dont know the full story. Maybe he has some insurance (but not enough) which will go some way to go towards the replacement. We don't know him personally but this generosity isn't shown to everyone there who has an unfortunate accident, so he must be well loved to generate this response.  :)
Title: Re: Senay Ocakci Gunisik restaurant
Post by: paulmandy on November 17, 2015, 13:07:11 PM
Hi Jacqui - I asked the same sensible question very early on.  And (having driven our family car "3rd party" for decades) I groaned when Senay said he is 3rd party (called something else in Turkish?).  Because it was pedestrians - rather than another (3rd party covered) car involved - there is no insurance payout.  That was THE deciding factor in creating a "crowdfunding" page.

So a sincere thank you for asking, and for adding your comment, Lotty - because it allows me to confirm this is not simply "feel-good fundraising".

All this talk of money and "please give if you can" (and the giving is F.A.B. - thank you so much) ...  So I thought you might like a glimpse of "Senay the person"(the pictures have all been on Facebook for 2-3 years).

There is a post/link on the CBF Facebook Group page.

Enjoy -

Title: Re: Senay Ocakci Gunisik restaurant
Post by: paulmandy on November 20, 2015, 07:39:27 AM
Hi Karennina - it has struck me that signing up for a JustGiving page may be "not for me".  I can offer a suggestion - but all this on trust (so I am hesitant for that reason).  The JustGiving page will transfer the cash to my UK bank account, and I will Western Union cash transfer to Fethiye for Senay and family to collect.  All the costs at both ends are being covered outside of the fundraising page.

If you wish (that is where trust comes in) I have a PayPal account I have used to move money before.  Have a think and let me know?  Because the next "comment" I have (I was in the middle of it as you added your  question) is getting close to begging (and no apologies from me)  :-)

So if PayPal is another way - thank you!
Title: Re: Senay Ocakci Gunisik restaurant
Post by: paulmandy on November 20, 2015, 07:43:07 AM
Senay does not know I am writing this. As he would say (and does): "Aye don car(rrr)e!"

23/05/2009 - our eldest daughter married her man. All the details were arranged, covered, organised (and organised!). The day was truly moving. "Father of the groom" made a speech, "the groom" made a speech (with the obligatory "cringe factor" ;). And then the bride - usually the silent recipient as "us men" speak - our daughter stood up and spoke. She brought the whole room to sniffly happy wet tears (see the picture for her words). And I was left to make my "father of the bride" cringe-worthy speech - and did. And felt a complete fraud! :-)

You don't have to "love" someone to love someone. You don't have to do much to do a lot. But you do have to do something. Donations have ground to a halt. Thank you to all who have added to the £1385 so far. That is short of the £1650. Will you make the difference?  And if this is close to begging - it's very simple: they need a leg-up right now. The clock is ticking and the page will close. Thank you.

(and see Karennina's comment about PayPal)

Karennina -

Just gone to my PayPal account and it says this: "Enter your recipient’s email address or mobile number. Enter an amount and send your money more securely. We’ll notify the recipient, they’ll just need to set up a PayPal account if they don’t have one."  Thank you - never thought of PayPal!

if you want to use that, your money will be added to the JustGiving page using you name (or "Anon" if you prefer) - so that you can see it, and so can everyone else.  Can I give my PayPal email address here - or is it best through messages?

Thank you! I have just messaged you my details.  And for anyone else thinking "what difference will my few pounds make?" - well I am blown away by karennina: from her to paypal to paypal to me - and then to the "giving page".  THAT is a lot of love!

No problem it was £7 in the end as i forgot I bought sumat off Ebay for a quid yesterday....
Senay always remembers my cousin and I at Gunisik and is so welcoming and always shakes our hand despite us not going particularly frequently....This I like we can also walk past Gunisik and not feel guilty if we are not eating there...we have learnt over the years the establishments that get 'the hump' if you dont eat at their place so much so that one person completely ignores us and indeed turns his head away when he sees us coming, cant be doing with that sort of behaviour at our age in life!
Hope Senay makes a speedy recovery and gets sorted re his car soon.

Dear Steve, with your £40 - the total stands at £1652.00 against the targets of £1650.00!!!

Since your kind offer last night, I was hoping that others would not see it and think "Steve will do it, I don't need to."  And they didn't!!

I am more than happy right now - and your "pledge" yesterday was the icing on a very special cake!!  Thanks doesn't quite do it!! :-)

In 13 days you have raised £1,652.00. In just 13 days you have done something very special. Sometimes we use this word "friends" to include those we "know of" as well as those we "know well".  You have shown Senay and Nuran and all Calis what friends actually "do"! Thank you all

Toky, a special thank you to you ((hugs))

This is a fantastic outcome and typical to see that Senay and Nuran have read every FB ,every pledge and then added a personal thank you to each person.Just shows what lovely people they are.this whole thing just shows what people power can do,I think CBF and those who organised and donated could teach our world leaders a trick or two!

SMALL PRINT:
Please note that JustGiving will take money pledged from your account on/around 7th December.

The total is transferred to me in £s (how much will that be in another 2 weeks?)

I transfer all the money to Senay (to a Western Union, Fethiye, office).

Senay picks up the cash YTL (lira).

(I think we might even have enough for a "go faster stripe" for their car!)

Any questions - please ask.  Thank you again.

Thank you all for your patience. With just two days to go - Kev/Lesley take the total to £1,792.00.

Do you remember the mashed-up car and driver? Here is picture - attached, I hope - of what has been happening

So ... The 30 day fundraising ends on Tuesday ... Then  a week this Friday, JustGiving release the money ... And - assuming that each pledge is successfully collected - Senay, Nuran and their family pick-up YTL 7,755 (at todays Western Union rate) from the Western Union Fethiye office on Friday 20th December.

Is that a "Christmas present" or is that a "Christmas present"?  Thank you all so much - confirmation and further updates as the "process" ticks through the closing stages.

Well – how did the story end?

You raised £1802.00 in under 30 days.  All of the £1,802.00 was collected by JustGiving.  Thank you.  And all of the £1,802.00 was transferred to Senay and Nuran (via Western Union).

Yesterday they collected YTL 8,068 from Western Union, Fethiye.

That clears the cost of rebuilding their car, also covers some hospital bills along the way, and sounds like (from talking to him this morning) he is spending anything left over on his mobile phone calling as many of us as he can get hold of.

Then – the icing on the cake – he was really excited about fishing again.  Which means family bbqs.  Which means life is returning to normal. And that is just perfect!

And each of you helped make this happen so wonderfully.

Thank you!

Paul (with a lot of help from so many - including being allowed to hog this thread on the forum!)    :)
