It's that time of the year again folks.
Feel free to vote for (up to) THREE of your favourite bars or restaurants which you visited during the 2015 season. Please advise of any errors I've made and if your choice isn't listed, reply with the missing establishment's name.
Voting from now through winter, closing January 1st. This will allow time for certificates to be made and delivered in time for the new season starting.
-
Can you add this one to the list John? Its at the back of the Gitaci bar
Bedestan Hatay Ocakbasi.
-
There's always ONE ! :)
Now added toky
-
Sorry, more than one H. Rosemary's opp Mangal and Secret Garden, near The Pines. Thanks ;D
-
Added sadler.
How could I have possibly forgotten The Secret Garden :o :o :o
-
Maybe because it is secret
-
I certainly wish it had been kept that way. :(
-
Bad experience! Guessing you won't be voting for it then? :)
-
Correct !
-
I never knew Frank Carson had a restaurant in Calis....It's the way I tell'm :) :)
-
No Zayra 1 anymore.Its now Sarge's Place.
-
No Roka Restaurant either.....
-
Sunshine Cafe, Mandolin/Mandalyn (there are two but I can't remember which is which :)), there is also the new Indian resteraunt above the Beach House, Curry Palace....
-
EJ's
-
I put EJ's but this one could possibly be restaurant/café.
-
List amended for various additions.
-
No Roka Restaurant either.....
Not Roka anymore Philrose, I believe its called the Berra Restaurant now.
-
No Berra either it closed months ago. Not that it did much trade anyway... ;)
-
The large restaurant at the very end of the beach, turning right at the observation area. Has "Aroma" in its title, but "beach club" or something similar in its name. Another one (the owner) who started off brilliantly IMHO but rapidly went down hill! A great shame.
-
I have added as Aroma sadler.
Another one we won't be rushing back to. Perhaps it's us. ;)
-
How about including Oben and Sunset Beach? Cheers
-
I don't want to have Oben listed twice :) but have added Sunset Beach.
-
Pleasr add Kahve Alti to best restaurant in calis list. Very small place next to Alo24. Its amazing.
-
Added with pleasure Saga Louts.
-
Varil bar/restaurant please.
-
Ah I should have remembered that one mickinblack :(.
Added now.
-
I read the list with hesitancy, and must say never knew there was so many restaurants in Calis !
But yet again another year went by and after two visits to Calis, i can honestly say we never ate at any!!!
So will be watching the votes, and maybe will try one next year.
Happy voting
-
Can I ask Sunlover, where do you eat? or do you just self cater?
-
Fethiye at a guess
-
We do self cater a bit, but we tend to eat fethiye, Gunlukbashi, and wherever we are in the daytime, as out and about a bit while there. I just dont really like the front, as everyone calls it, to touristy for us.
-
I like the front because basically, we are tourists. We enjoy some good restaurants along there and also enjoy the atmosphere. Nothing nicer than watching a sunset and then listening to the waves lapping on the beach.
I would suggest you give it a try sometime.
-
I agree Jacqui. If we lived there we might feel differently, but for our few weeks in Calis we enjoy eating on the prom. Not every night by any means as there are plenty of very good restaurants away from it but certainly for a few evenings.
-
Jacqui - why did you presume that sunlover has not tried eating on the front.
-
Basically because she said she had never eaten at any of the restaurants in your list for Calis. The front is included in this list unless I missed one ?? :)
-
Ah my mistake - got it now - missed sunlover's earlier post. :-[
-
We have tried the restaurants along the front over the past years we have been to Calis, we oftenly go down to watch the sunset, and have a drink, but to be honest the food at most of the restaurants we have tried are not that great, as we try to eat Turkish food if we can, and its mostly food made for Tourists. As for atmosphere, we dont go away for the atmosphere of the tourists and retaurants, everyone goes to Calis for different reasons, and ours is obviously not the same as lots that travel there.
-
That's what I initially thought.
-

I couldn't agree more, nothing wrong with individualism and as Einstein once said
“The person who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The person who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever seen before.”
-
Well said SPO6666
-
not wishing to stir things up BUT it always seems to be that the restaurant catering the most to English food and culture wins every year, please do not reply to this post as I fear that I will be cast out of the forum if this offends some of the members.

Hardly the most controversial post ever.
Can you give me even one example in the entire 12 year history of CBF in any of the 43,000+ topics where someone has been "cast out of the forum" for giving their honest opinion?

Bella Mammas ?
-
Pasta, pizza - good wholesome English food ;)
-
,Thank you Highlander, for looking at my voting in the last few years, (now the forum will know that) Plus just read a post from Scunner that he and family had a good night and great meal at ????????
-
steve the bike
For the record, I did not look at your voting in the last few years because I am simply not privy to that information, as scunner will, I hope confirm.
My comment referred to the fact that Bella Mammas had the most votes at the time.
-
Which is just as I read it, nothing to do with the way anyone has voted.
-
,Thank you Highlander, for looking at my voting in the last few years, (now the forum will know that) Plus just read a post from Scunner that he and family had a good night and great meal at ????????
1. As a member of CBF, Highlander has no access to see who you voted for over the years. The moderators of CBF cannot see either. Or the Administrators. Or me.
2. "Thank you Highlander, for looking at my voting in the last few years, (now the forum will know that)" - now the forum will know the opposite of that.
3. We had a brilliant meal at Bella Mammas. So what?
Lighten up Steve, you're pretty useless at the controversy stuff :D
-
the end I hope!!
-
Agreed !!!!
Oh, by the way - thank you for apologising for falsely accusing me ;)
-
I apologise to you Highlander. and wish to draw an end to what I thought was a simple question about the voting for the best restaurant in calis. l
-
It was, but then you started talking about things you know nothing about. Let's draw it to an end as you suggest.
-
Pleased to see our favourite restaurant Bella mama with so many votes. Meeting point also.
-
I am pleased to see Casa De Mama with lots of votes. As a lot of the staff i.e. waiters and Chefs from Bella Mama's moved up the prom and started their own place, cheaper and with the same food and also with friendly staff. I would recommend anyone who likes Bella's to give Casa a try.
-
78 % haven't voted for Casa di Mama, The Meeting Point or Bella Mammas ;)
-
Jacqui - it will vary from dish to dish but I'm not at all sure that Casa di Mama is cheaper than Bella Mamma
-
How times change........ didn't Ayden Pide win this a few years back ??
Now they don't make it to the list of runners.
-
That may well be down to me Phil :-[ :-[ :-[
I have added now
-
I was just thinking about Ayden pride as I would have put that in my favourite 3
-
H, you missed The Palace Flophouse and Grill.
-
Jacqui - it will vary from dish to dish but I'm not at all sure that Casa di Mama is cheaper than Bella Mamma
We have always found it cheaper and we always great a welcome and feel very comfortable in there, no rush we can sit with drinks as long as we like.
-
Had my best meals at Bella Mammals this year after giving it a miss for 2 years.. Beach House was great.. Fell out with Meeting Point this year
-

We did, but weren't impressed. Still Bella Mammas for us :)
-
Four years of consistently good food, service and great times we never fail to have a great lunch or dinner with Angel and the staff at the Nil Bar, tops every time
-
We like the Nil too and Angel is lovely. Always get a great welcome and lovely food.
Re Casa De Mama, We can honestly see no difference in the food from Bella's and Bella's is far more formal and starchy and cold for our liking. They get you in feed you quickly and get you out.
We visited in October and gave it another try, but still cannot get any liking for the place.
-
AmestiSt.
You wouldn't want to pronounce what is written on the list too quickly (wink).
Ayden Pide score a point off me for kindly looking after and returning my son's Hudl tablet after he left it there after a meal in August.
-
Oops - thanks for pointing out.
Not a Freudian slip because I'm definitely a "leg" man :)
By the way it's been wrong since 2014 :-[
-
If you haven't voted for your favourites you have till this Friday (Jan 1st) to support them in the CBF Poll.
-
haven't been able to vote as poll doesn't show on tapatalk.
just tried on android and my favourite, Curry Palace isn't on the list.
Bit short notice to add now I'm sure and sorry didn't try to vote before
-
The Curry Palace is on the list, its 7th from the bottom and has 4 votes so far. :)
-
Ahhh.... I was looking under c.... :) thank you x
-
What happens (every year is this:
We ask if there are any new/changed name establishments that need adding/amending on the list from the previous year.
Nobody says anything.
We publish the poll.
Loads of people ask for restaurants to be added or to have old names changed to new.
Happy New Year :D
-
Voting is now closed for 2015 Best Bar/Restaurant and for the first time ever we appear to have two winners :)
Congratulations to Bella Mammas & The Meeting Point!
And to the Highly Commended Casa Di Mama & Gunisik (Frank Cannon's!!!)
-
Well done, but have to admit to being delighted that Gunisik is up amongst there this year. :)
-
Yeah me too, it sort of reinforces the idea that you don't need to be posh or expensive to be popular.
-
Must agree with Mrs. T and yourself Keith. Glad to see Gunisik in the frame
as it deserves it and yes you don't need to go Posh or Expensive to find some great food
-
This evening I had the greatest of pleasure in presenting the 2015 Certificates.
Without exception the recipients were delighted and very appreciative.
With apologies for the shocking photography here is a record of the occasion.

If someone in admin can rotate these photos I would be very grateful.
Gin and tonics prevent me from rectifying the situation :)
-
Looks like G&T's caused the problem ;)
-
Nice to see these photos - two of our favourites - Bella Mama and Meeting Point. Unfortunately we are not in Calis this June (for the first time in 15 years) so we are missing all our lovely evenings at these two restaurants.

Thanks lotty :)
-
For some reason I can only enlarge the Meeting Point one :(
-
Me too? Though I could when they were on their sides? This has happened to others I know but have no clue why. ???
-
I'll see if I can sort them later, when I'm not on my phone.
-
All done - should we start a new topic for the awards?
(Many thanks again John for your efforts in arranging this).
-
Tapping to enlarge, 3 are still going to the download photo screen? Is it something I'm doing by uploading more than 1 photo? ???
-
Sorry, I meant I edited Highlander's original attempt :)
-
All done - should we start a new topic for the awards?
Good idea - I will if you wish
-
I did :)
