Coming to Çaliş tomorrow with 3 teenage boys. We will do the usual Jeep safari, Mud bath, Water park but has anyone got any ideas for evening? My boys are 18,16,13. Hopefully they will get chatting to kids their own age, maybe meet new friends, so they won't get bored of mums company :D.
-
There is a bowling alley somehwre betwee Calis and Fethiye I think. Sorry can't be more specific.
Never been so cannot recommend or otherwise.
-
That one has closed now, but there is one in the Erasta shopping centre
-
Thanks both of you, good idea my younger boy would enjoy that for sure. Where exactly is the Erasta as i haven't been there?
-
Taking a big chance here but I think it's just up from the Bus Station on the Olu deniz Road :-\
-
Yes John. Just past The Otogar on The Right hand side in Fethiye
-
Also, keep in mind that Jeep Safari's are not covered by your Travel Insurance. They are classed as an Extreme Sport and you need to get a Hazardous Sports Policy. However, I think this insurance would not cover under sixteen year olds. This means if your kids had an accident, you would pay for hospital treatment any hotel bills and flights home. A medi-vac starts at £29,000.
-
Thanks all for your help. Jacqui i took my boys on Jeep Safari in 2009 and i suppose you don't think about what could happen when you book trips. But worth looking into more carefully.
-
Re: the now removed "bowling alley" between Calis and Fethiye..........we'd also been told of a bowling alley on the Calis Road, so.....
.... a few years ago, after many Efes's, my friend and I visited the "bowling alley" for a highly competitive, high stakes (fish dinner) game.
A bowling alley, as we knew one, this certainly wasn't.
Rough hewn wooden balls and a fairly short, narrow skittle alley; the pins held up by string and as they descended most of them fell over at the end of the alley.
Hurling the wooden balls at any prone skittle smashed the few standing ones to oblivion.
The machinery then tugged on the strings to raise the dead ones and dropped again, limp as a wet sock.
I think we were laughing too much to do anything but call it a draw.
Probably the best value entertainment we had known in years.
Simple pleasures.
-
Good job it's gone then Stuart ;D but sounds like fun!
-
It was brilliant! (and I'm not far short of being a pensioner).
An evening out could have been planned around this. (3 TL per game).
There were 2 lanes as well!
-
I forgot a bit!
Above the alley there was even an electronic scoreboard, Unfortunately, the numbers didn't all shine up very well.
If you scored an "8" it would only light up "L" because the right hand side lights had burnt out.
"9" was just a small letter "C" in the top left side.
P.S. I still maintain that I won.

Yes, it's true, we go on holiday and forget about safety. However, there have been fatalities in the past, including the 9 year old girl and her Father killed in the Jeep accident in Fethiye. When you think about it, us Brits are so safety conscience in the U.K. But we go on holiday to foreign countries and jump off mountains sitting next to complete strangers and put our lives in their hands. Also we get into jeeps with unknown drivers and will then stand up and fire water pistols at other jeep passengers and enjoy the Villagers waiting to soak us with hoses and we never think to ask are we Insured? and never consider what it is going to cost us if we have an accident. Personally, wild horses would not get me or any of my family into a Jeep Safari. ;) :(
-
Yes I'm reconsidering Jacqui but you did make me laugh 'jumping off mountains with complete strangers' :D Not something i would ever dream or imagine doing ;)
-
To get to the Erasta shopping centre from Calis, take the dolmus that goes via Gunlukbasi. Get off at the roundabout at the otogar & walk about 5 mins towards Olu Deniz ie straight on. The bowling alley is on the upper floor in the far corner behind the amusement arcade
-
Thanks that's great Liz 101 :)

Hi
Are you in a hotel or an apartment?
We have an apartment and my partner's 3 girls have often holidayed with us over the last 10 years including whilst teenagers. The youngest is now 14 and unfortunately cannot holiday with is this year as has just switched to school in Scotland so will now be in class whilst we are in Calis :(
They often enjoyed staying in the swimming pool till quite late and then having a BBQ and playing card games on the balcony or watching a DVD.
They also enjoyed playing pool in the Irish bar in Calis and whilst that has now closed, there are a number of other places with free pool tables... that was often a great way to meet other teenage pals.
I know this isn't as popular as it used to be so don't know if your teenagers would be interested but I believe the Meeting Point used to have Wii afternoons/nights but not sure if they still do or how often they are
There is also the cinema in Fethiye which I believe shows English films but not sure how up to date they are - someone else will have to advise on that.
Hope you have great holiday.
-
There are 2 cinemas in Fethiye. The Hayal in town and another on the top floor of the Erasta Shopping Centre. Both show the latest film releases, but look for Orijinal on film listings as these are the ones in English.

I don't know if you have been on Jerry boat before, but its a bit different to other boat trips. There is fishing. snorkelling, swing rope into the sea that Jerry tests beforehand. He is brilliant with kids, goes and gets baby octopus for them to hold, starfish etc. The food is very good and plentiful all cooked by his wife. You can get hold of him and see his photos on jerryboat.com. Promise you wont be disappointed. All day £15 an adult..worth every penny.
-
Thanks all for your recommendations. All sound good. We are in our own Apartment Lynnj so we have TV music channels etc. Being teenagers they love Wi -Fi :D so if i can't find them I'll check the meeting point!
-
The bowling alley between Calis and Fethiye has NOT closed, its open every afternoon until late and it has modern equipment.
At just 5 Lira a game per person its better value than the Erasta one.
Its on the main road between Calis and Fethiye opposite the supermarket which was called Tansas and is now called Migros.
A small group of us bowl every Tuesday from 16.30 onwards.
I'm sure that they will welcome all,
-
Had a lovely meal last night in the Meeting Point. Staff very good. Will try Mangel next but which one? Only saw one last year. Boys want to go for breakfast we are close to Baba Firin 5 min walk. One boy wants English others pastries :) I just want to eat :D
-
The Pines near Baba Firin will do British and Turkish breakfasts.
I would recommend you give George's on the prom a try. Great food and very good service. They are a family run business that has been established for ovr 30 years.
-
Cafe Inn on opposite side to Baba Firin do cracking English breakfasts and they have a good menu for other stuff
-
Yes, Yusef/Joseph from George's has now moved to the Cafe Inn. He is a great waiter and has a good personality. We will call into see him when we are over next. Never been to this place, so will give it a try.
-

-

A couple of places that pick you up and have something to do would be Kings garden for dinner and the kids can climb up the top of the rock tombs high above fethiye. Then you can eat dinner overlooking the bay and get a lift back home. The other is Billys beach barbecue in olu. Not sure if they pick up from calis. They have an an evening of entertainment, lots of acts, all you can eat buffet, which is nice. A campfire on the beach to sit around and a late evening disco. You see lots of familys there and I think its £10a head for adults. Pay for drinks seperately. The other place that picks you up is on the kordon,www.hasankolcuoglu.com.tr, they serve a set menu and bring a kebab on a sword. Or catch water taxi to it.
Gosh, its hard keeping kids occupied and it must be costing you a fortune..remember those days well..happy memories..enjoy x
-
Also the Istanbul Restaurant in Kayakoy. They have a BBQ night every Thursday with a music. The BBQ is is three courses and they pick up and drop off. The cost is 60TL each which includes meal and mini bus.
I think your boys would like it. Make sure you book in advance, it is popular.
-
Hi rana , your sons big enough , I recommend doing amateur scuba diving or boat tour can be very enjoyable. I think it will be very difficult traveling alone with 3 teenage boys. good luck :)
-
Again, you need to check insurance for Scuba Diving. We had a friend (he has moved to Australia) He was a scuba diver, but he said he checked out the Scuba diving in Turkey and would not do it and this guy is an expert.
-
Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. Boys enjoying so far especially jeep safari today. One small complaint we had to pay extra for waterfall 5TL each which we paid but after walking down 300+ steps were then told we needed to rent shoes at 3TL each because the walk to waterfall was rocky. So we actually paid to walk down steps and look at a stream. Bit naughty of them i think and when i mentioned to the tour guide he should tell people before paying he couldn't give me an answer. :-\

Yes its true. Prof .Diving is dangerous but its only demo diving for amateurs. if you have diving licence and you want deep diving ( more than 10 meters) a lot of thing is realy too dangerous but if you can safe diving its like a another world and like space.

I dive from Fethiye with a company called European Diving, they have their own dive boat and the most important thing for them is safety. They do a thing called a try dive and I would highly recommend this if the boys fancy it, it is great fun, lunch included. They are easily found on the internet with phone numbers etc. on the website and also pick up and drop off. Well worth a go.
-
Jacqui, your friend may be right in his opinion. I learned to dive in Fethiye approx. two years ago with a company called European Diving, I done two diving courses with them and their first priority is the safety of their students. In the two years that I have been diving I have dived in quite a few different countries in the world and believe me European Diving is up there with the best of them certainly. So anyone who fancies giving it a go get in touch with them, I am sure they will be pleased to hear from you.

-
They would enjoy jeep safari just make sure you know all the extra costs first.

Address: Oludeniz cad, Fethiye, Turkey. Phone Number: 02526170028. Or the facebook page. Have fun!
-
Unfortunately, they don't collect as far out as Calis. I dropped them a line on their FB page as I fancied going myself but they say you have to make your own way there.
-
The Kings Garden Fethiye. The Istanbul, Muzzy's Place and Levissi Garden all in Kayakoy, will pick up and drop off in Calis. The Beaches in Oludeniz, as far as I know have never picked up in Calis Beach.
-
If you get the dolmus to Olu, they will drop you at Billy's Beach.
