Today I listened to a BBC5 programme "Afternoon Edition" which featured Nobel Prize winner and former Chief Economist of the World Bank, Joseph E Stiglitz, talking about his new book (title as in the name of this thread). Very good to hear a thoughtful economist and not one of those narrow-minded neo-liberal economics clone that are usually paraded out. The discussion was not merely about the coming woes of the Euro but also a wide-ranging review of problems facing democratic governments in managing their relations with multi-national corporation (including why the EU is dead right to demand Apple pays proper taxes). I recommend the programme to anyone who wants a well-explained, understandable guide to the economics of the modern world. It will be on podcast tomorrow, here or hereabouts:
