A bit dull as subjects go, but are towels still a good buy in Turkey? If so are there any recommendations of places to go - hopefully somewhere with lots of choice as we are looking for specific colours/combinations.
Thanks!

We usually buy ours at the Tuesday market, there is a guy on the left hand side of the market that sells bath sheets at 10ytl upwards, great quality and hard waring ,had some for over 5years and as good as new. Also bought some in May, and wanted to get some hand towels to match and found them in TK Max in the UK but wanted £16.99 each, so didn't bother,

First shop we stopped at were asking 55tl - just further down the road ( Main Street down to prom) were two for 40tl but be careful to get both same size.
-
Yes, definately tuesday market, one of the main stalls as you " cross the road" bit between market areas, if you know what I mean..... Or Madame Coco... LOVE madame coco!!!!
-
There's a guy on Sunday market (he may even be the same one as referred to on Tuesday market) has Next overmakes in all colours that he buys from the factory in Denizli. He used to always have the flag of a Dutch team, Ajax(?) on the side of his van.
Alternatively, on LHS just before the Sundial junction off the main road to Ovacik, there's a large shop, name escapes me, but there's always a large selection of mainly garden type soft furnishings outside

This one, Liz?
I recommend Detay as well for towels.

You better hurry up though, Scunner. Seems he only has the one.

Thanks all - is that shop up to Migros lights, straight over, keep walking? (Don't drive on hols if I can help it :) )
-
That's the one Menthol.
Scunner, you could go that way, but it's a heck of a hike. It's past the plastic cow & probably about 2/3 of the way to the lights where you go left to Saturday market or bare right to Ovacik
-
Thanks Liz - I have trouble working out the severity of walking to places over there (mainly as I drove all the time when we lived there).
I once walked from the water taxi stop in Fethiye to the Yakamoz, I couldn't believe it wasn't 5 minutes away :D
-
You'd have to walk further to find the Yakamoz these days ;)
-
It's in a skip somewhere isn't it :D

Every year when we came over with our friends we always took a trip on Barry's boat from fethiye to Gocek Sunday market. It's a great trip over, and they always bought their towels from there. We bought leather slippers! A stop at kebab hospital for a lovely lunch. Back on the boat to return home, with swim stops.Great after walking around in the heat.
-
We bought on Sunday market. Usually great quality M&S or Dunhelm. Girls were very happy with their towels
-
We always buy towels in one of the two shops upstairs on the left in the Erasta Shopping Centre. One shop is called Engish Homes, the other one is right next door. The towels are lovely and such good quality and they always seem to have sales on, so the towels are really cheap. We have also bought bedding in these shops too. A boxed set of either a duvet cover and pillowcases or a bed cover and pillow cases are really so reasonably priced.
Madam Coco in town is good too.
-
Where is Madame Coco please Jacqui and does the Erasta shop do bed runners?
Sorry in advance to the boss for hijacking his topic!
-
Not at all Karen, I was going to ask where Madame Coco is too. :)
-
Madame Coco is on the street where the umbrellas are

I've just cottoned on to this. It's a load of flannel. ;)

Go passed Cafe Cafe walk up toward the one way street and Paspatur. It is just on the left hand side and remember they also have an upstairs. The bottles of cologne they have are lovely, I used them as air fresheners.
Karen, they sell everything for beds etc., in the Erasta and next to the two shops there is also a very good household shop next door to them with pots, pans, cutlery, crockery etc., Have a coffee in one of the coffee shops, downstairs, you get a chocolate spoon. The smoothies are lovely too and not to mention the ice cream. Nice to sit outside and do some people watching.

Madam Coco and English Home sell bedding and towels circa 1970, ok if you like flowers and chintz !!!
-
Very unfair sweeping comment, we bought two lots of bedding from English Homes with no chintz or flowers. I personally, am not a lover of floral bedding. Lots of the towels are self coloured with decoration on the edges.
It is always nice to promote local businesses and not put them down.
Karen, I hope you will go and make up your own mind.

Bought beautiful rugs and blankets in Madame Coco. Scoured the internet to find something other than typical Turkish design then popped in Coco assuming it would be too expensive but shocked at the prices and quality. No flowers on them :)

Thank you for the info Jacqui absolutely defo going to go to both these shops and have a look, looking forward to it :)

We have found that the guy in the Sunday/Tuesday market that sell the next/dunelm towels gives the best deals. We bought some there 2 yrs ago and still as good as new. Bought some specific colours last year and still good to
-
I also found that the Madame Coco shop only sells chinese tat, same as the one in Gocek
-
I wasn't that impressed with their quality either
-
Love madame coco, all my products are still going strong, although they have some lovely stuff they don't have sets of towels so difficult if you want same in a range if sizes.
Had some beauties off the Sunday market man, when I looked at home I noticed the labels had been cut out very carefully but the hand towel still had it on, looks like a very genuine ralph Lauren label , checked the website identical bath towels (same edged pattern) are £70 each!!!
-
Glad your bits and bobs are going well Mar Kr
We bought bed linen a couple of seasons back and it was terrible. So bad it went in the bin
-
Most of the stuff anywhere now is Chinese Tat, sign of the times.
-
The towels and bedding we have bought at the two shops in the Erasta have labels to say they are made in Turkey.
-
Most of the quality towels you buy at M&S or Dunelm, etc are made in Turkey. The ones on the Sunday market are just the same with the labels intact. We are using them both at home and in Turkey (not at the same time :)) and they wear just as good as any we have bought in the UK.
-
There is also a lady (doesn't speak any English) on the Sunday market who I always have sheets and pillow cases off as well, dirt cheap 100% cotton and they are huge. Always pleased with her stuff even though it looks like its all just buddled onto a table aprox 10 lira for a flat double sheet.
-
We always buy towels in one of the two shops upstairs on the left in the Erasta Shopping Centre. One shop is called Engish Homes, the other one is right next door.
There is a branch of English Homes in town now,on the back road (Carsi Cad.)opposite HSBC Bank.

Thank you, however, I still like a vist to the Erasta. Cannot resist the coffee shops.
