We have been in Portugal for a week now and we have just got ourselves sorted.
We arrived after a very tiring trip as the ferry arrived in Santander 6 hours late which gave us a 3 hour drive on a dark/windy/wet road instead off a leisurely drive in day light. We eventually arrived in Valladolid at 00.45 fortunately Britany ferries had rang the hotel on our behalf and notified them of the delay. Next day was a leisurely 360 mile drive to Saville all on dual carriageway. The last days drive was a 160 mile trip from Saville to Lagos, a steady drive with decent weather.
The weather has been very kind to us so far with temps in the mid 20's most of the time. With the pound/euro almost one for one we have found the food shopping on a par with the UK. The days of eating out 3/4 times a week are a thing of the past, we shall defiantly miss Turkey for the reasonably priced meals.
We have a rented cottage on the western Algarve in a small village Barao Soa Joao in the foothills above Lagos on the edge of a nation park so we have plenty of walking from the cottage.
I've included some pics of the cottage and I'll post some pics of the village later

Looks very nice Don.

A few weeks ago we found Estoril much more expensive than our trip to the south coast (Tavira) a couple of years before. We didn't know whether this was location or the recent demise of the £. But it might have been because we happened to be staying where all the top-rated Estoril restaurants are - so we ate extremely well ... but expensively. Just couldn't resist.

It all looks lovely. We want to try Portugal, someone told us Lagos was really nice. Enjoy your stay.

Looks very nice Don. I am sure you are being missed at Engin's place. We were down there last month and a lot of building work was going on.
We have been to Lagos and had a great time.

Looks lovely Don. Not sure I envy you the long drives though. Think if me and OH tried that we'd be divorced before we got to destination! :o ;)

Sue & I love the Algarve and may well be spending even more time there in the future..
Lagos is a particular favourite of ours and in fact will back for three weeks in February.
Enjoy your time there.
