Title: Women pulled of flight
Post by: Daffodil on May 31, 2017, 10:00:31 AM
I read that a group of women on a hen party had been taken off a flight for wearing t shirts with an offensive message on.

Yeah, noticed that one as well.  They were told at check in to keep their t shirts covered up, they later chose not too.  Bad choice.  Bumped.

You can tell it's a slow news day...

My eight year old grandson heard me telling my husband what had happened and said they should have waited until they were up in the air! I thought he was a sweet little boy! Now I am shocked.

Bitch.

See! Even CBF doesn't have a hissy fit if you use this term. Where did Jet2 get so up tight? Was it brought up in a convent?

It seems that you can now vote fellow passengers off of a flight if you don't like the colour of their skin or the clothes they're wearing.

I'm confused.

Did it say 'bitch' or 'Kevin' on the t-shirts?

Without the full facts it is difficult to tell what went off here.  It would be interesting know if JET2 T&Cs state that Shirts/T-shirts liable to cause offence or political are not permitted on their flights, similar to Disney parks.( I have seen people dressed as Suddam Hussain  on a flight with rubber face mask and no one bat an eyelid.)

Suppose if other passengers have complained staff have to act.
If the you were asked to cover up by airline staff then what choices do you have?   You either do as you are told, or you risked being ordered off the plane.  All it takes is for your mates to get a bit vocal though..

You're right, always two sides to a story - however, couple of facts that both sides seem to agree on:

They were asked prior to boarding to either change their t shirts or cover them up as Jet2 staff felt the slogan was offensive.

Once boarded some decided to take of jackets/cardies/hoodies etc therefore displaying the slogan.

End result, they were removed from flight.

Personally, I don't think it was terribly offensive and the Jet2 staff were a bit overly sensitive on behalf of the other passengers.  That said, if check in/gate staff tell you to do something, then you do it.  If you decide to disregard them, then you should be prepared to accept the consequences, which in this case was being chucked off the flight and about two grand in rebooking flights.

Perhaps they thought that that the person who told them this was a pathetic little twerp with a Hitler complex and that the "service" people on board would not be so anal. The cabin staff could well have suggested that the passengers do what many of us thought obvious  turn t-shirt inside-out or back-to-front - perhaps in the back of the plane where the staff area is. But no, let's throw them off the flight, mess up their holidays and cost them huge lumps of money. That'll teach them! Pathetic!

I think over the last few years cabin crew have got stricter especially with groups of young people and the tolerance for people being drunk is getting lower, every few months its reported about drunk passengers getting thrown of planes. I was sat at Dalaman waiting for a 22;40 Easy jet plane and it had been delayed by over an hour I could actually see the plane parked at the other end of the runway when we eventually got on the plane I asked about the delay and was told that they had a very drunk women on and had her taken of the plane when they landed the delay was waiting for the police to turn up. The stewardess said that women would be taken to cells then when she had sobered up she would be put on the next available flight back to the UK at her cost she also said why should she have to put up with that type of behavior while at work. I worked as a night club doorman for over 15 years and we never put up with that type of behavior so why should she I know its only a slogan on a T shirt but the cabin crew have to take everything in to consideration for all we know they might have been a little on the drunk side and didn't want it to escalate but I wasn't there so don't know

I didn't say I agreed with their decision - however, when the airline staff ask you to do something, best policy is simply to comply.  They are in a position of power, and as Trainer said, the tolerance for unruly (or disruptive) passengers seems to be at zero these days.

The slogan I believe was "Bitches on Tour" and it was on the back of the T shirts, so while sat down it couldn't be seen. Doesn't seem that offensive to me.

If someone called them a bitch in every day life I'm sure they would not have been pleased.

We do not know if they had been drinking as well and may have been drunk too.

We don't know whether they might have been international terrorists - after all some of them had hoodies which is what terrorists wear isn't it? Or they could have been rolling drunk. They could have been carriers of bubonic plague. But Jet2 didn't mention any of this. It said the t-shirts were offensive.

According to one of the ladies being interviewed.. Only two of them had a glass of wine before the flight anf they were Mums. Grans and respectable women just going on a hen do... I personally wouldn't wear a T.Shirt with that written on...Jet2 said that there were a lot of children on board and that the T>Shirts were offensive to them...

Well it seems they were asked to cover up or remove the tee shirts on a number of occasions and refused.
These days, if an airline ask you to do something, why not comply?  Seems a simple thing to just cover up.

I was flying with my youngest grandchildren last Sunday and we were with a hen party. The ladies were all wearing lovely t shirts with dismantle on and saying which one was mother of the bride .I am glad that I did not have to explain any crude messages on t shirts to my grandchildren.Mind you they are quite able to form their own opinions even at their young age.My spellchecker will not let me put d I a m a n t e!

The cabin crew should be in control of the aircraft at all times,if these people cant follow simple instructions on the ground what chance have the crew got in the air.Given the choice of an over strict airline or an anything goes one I know which I would choose at least I would have a peaceful flight. Well done Jet2. The customer is not always right.

Done a lifetime of that KKOB. Routine now is 2 cups of tea in bed, sourced by the over indulged husband, watch GMTV and news and catch up on iPad (all from my pit).  It's called "retirement" . :)  ;)

And there's us thinking that you watch TV all night. Work was never like that when I did it. I do however do lots of voluntary work and also nanny duties. Now that is hard work!   :)  ;)

We're grandparents too. In fact I'm just having a peaceful cuppa and a browse through t'internet before the 19 month old grandson arrives. He stops with us for a couple of nights a week as both his parents work full-time. Then I'm off to work tonight and the next 3 nights.   :)
