Title: Advice Needed Please
Post by: shandy on October 23, 2017, 09:00:50 AM
We have just sold our apartment and we wondered how people have got the cash back to England, is a Bank transfer best, if so which banks charge and which don’t.  Has anyone actually carried cash Home and how do you go on at Customs.  Is it worth keeping some money in a Bank Account in Turkey?  Thank you x

Hi Shandy,    It will be easier once the forum is up and running fully, but you can do a search for specific topics and read through - like the example above.
I just typed "taking cash back to UK" in the search facility.
It may also help if you change the name of your post to show what it is you need advice about.

Yes, and no problem at customs - I stuck in the OH's handbag.

Thank you all.  We’ve been in HSBC here today and she said if we set up HSBC Account in Turkey we can just transfer money from one account to another as we do in England, so think we’ll do it that way x

I have known more than one occasion when people have had significant amounts of cash (well into several tens of thousands of pounds) taken from them at Dalaman on their way out.

Even worse, you then have to prove it is yours and not laundered etc - it is not their job to prove it is. In Turkey that will be tough and will take a long time.

Bank transfer every time.

Best not try to take cash through the airport/customs or you risk losing it.Bank transfer is the way t9 do it,can be expensive but your money is safe.
