Hi everyone.
Do any of you know the costs for residency permits in 2006, seeing as there is always a price increase for the new year.
I would be extending an already exisiting permit.
Thanks
Debbie.xx

Contact Asli at Fethiye Translation Bureau......I am sure she will have the up to date info. Use the Search engine for her details. Might be good to post the info on the Forum as I know other members would like to know. Particularly as there are RUMOURS of a price reduction! :)
-
A one year residency works out at about 290 pounds...thats with Aslis fees included..
-
As was told today that 1 year costs 380 YTL
-
Can anyone tell us how much 5yrs cost, or is it 380ytl x 5.
Ta Muchly
-
I'm almost certain that it is 380YTL x 5
-
I know when we did it there was no monetary saving by taking it out for five years but at least you don't have to worry about renewing every year. :)
-
Sorry to tell you all but a 5 years residency costs 2208 lira, approximately £880. This price has come from the British Consulate and also every year the price will rise by approximately 10%.
Depending on your country of origin, the price varies - from as little as 50 euro to the British rates which are the most expensive and Americans pay nothing!!!
Sophie.
-
There are supposed to be talks taking place to reduce the amount because of the sharp increase a couple of years ago. How long that will take though who can say, I suppose you could hedge your bets and buy annually but it could be a lot of hassle in the end.
Teresa
-
Correction. After last thursday the americans are aying full whack.
Blue book has gone up to 70 lira and the expenses or "Harc" has gone up 10%.
-
Haluk
Do you have the rates for Americans?
I thought Sophie couldn't possibly be correct as a visitors visa was $100 2 years ago but went down to $20 - not much more than most of us pay.
Can you post a link to a website that gives the info. as we've been unable to find a site that gives American rates.
\thanks

Hi all,
This probably won't come out too well but I'll try. I have copied and pasted an insert from a Bodrum paper similar to Land of Lights. As you can see the info was supplied by Bodrum Passport Police. I picked the paper up from the British Consulate in January. It is possible that the info regarding US citizens is wrong but as you can see this is where I got it from.
Sophie
UPDATE ON RESIDENCE FEES 2006
In accordance with the principle of 'reciprocal rights' residence fees vary with respect to the
applicant's nationality. Fees have gone up about ten per cent compared to last year's rates. The price
for the residence booklet is now 70 YTL.
The rates for 2006 as provided by Bodrum passport police:
Period Germany Austria Belgium+Italy Netherlands Other countries
1 year 266 75 € 12 € 4256 456.40 YTL(285€)
2 years 50 € 147 € 24 € 845 € 894.40 YTL (5606)
3 years 74 € 219 € 36 € 1265€ 1332.40 YTL (832€)

American citizens pay no fee at all.

Sophie
Thanks for that - somehow I think they have it wrong as for visas (the 3 month type) Americans used to pay lots. Be a change for the old man to get in for free.
Why don't you post the link to the Bodrum paper? I'm sure lots of us on here would be interested.
Linda
-
Americans pay full rates lile the Brits do as of last Thursday and that was according to the main Emniyet muduru in Ankara.
-
Linda,
I'm told that the Bodrum Observer in it's current form has yet to go online. As soon as it does I will post the link for it.
Sophie

Why on earth doese most people use Asley and pay her fee?? she sends other people out to do most jobs for her anyway.
It's only a matter of going to the passport police first, get directions, take it from there. Yes they can speak English, or ASK for help from English who have done it themselves, put a FREE advert in the land of Lights and ask for help, you will get it, There are a lot of us who do not like to see people ripped off. Ok I am on my soap box. Ausgal
-
So just how much does she charge?
I believe their is quite a bit of leg work and duplicate forms to fill in. Depends I guess on the saving and if you want to learn the system.
Tel
-
I think that most people get help from Asli and other agents is that it saves the hassle. Firstly you have to get your photo taken (6 I think) and then you proceed to the port police where you have to complete a form(3 I think). Then you have to go to the tax office and pay your fee and retain the receipt. Then you have to go to the normal police office in the town and show your passport. They will do a check to make sure you have been a good boy in Turkey. Then you have to go to the post office and pay the postage fee for the police to send your passport to Mugla. Then you need to get a copy of your passport validated by the Notary then you take all these documents and passport to the port police who will retain them all and send them to Mugla. Then you can sit back and wait for 8 or 10 weeks before you receive your residence permit. Currently YTL 2208 for 5 years. After 5 years you could save all this aggro by applying for Turkish Nationality. Only costs 80 YTL for the medicals.!!!Oh and I forgot you also need evidence of savings and accommodation for the residency. The list just goes on!!
WW
-
That's exactly why I mentioned it, as I had heard it's quite a process my friend.
The other question of course is how much do agents charge for the service?
Tel
-
What is the problem? It only takes a day out of your busy lives.
Yet another reason for the Turks to believe that the Brits are money boxes on legs!
I am told that your passport is not now taken away from you.
-
Asli was charging 100YTL but I heard she has increased this to 150YTL. This is only hearsay though.
WW
-
Good for her!
-
A step by step guide is here. The prices need to be updated for 2006 but its so easy why pay someone else to do it! http://www.fethiyetimes.org.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=68&Itemid=58
-
Many thanks, Fethiye, that is a good step by step guide. When we were both out in February we had to get 16 photos for our tapu and for residency but we did not get to the residency as both of our passports only have three years left. Sue is in Calis at the moment and I hope to be out next month.
Pete and Sue
-
Pete,
Just get a 3 year residency for now. The alternative, apart from trips to Greek Isles, is surrender your passports for new and you will get a maximum of nine months credited to your new ones. Or just hang on LOL

if and when, turkey gets ready to join EU then this will all change, most turks Ive talked to think joining will be good for turkey,so lira/interest rates/visa/etc will all change, time factor based on politics etc, things have away of moving quicky with the right incentives.

So,
A lot of you have, or are thinking of paying nearly £1,000 for the priviledge of living another 5 years in a place which,it would seem, as a lot of you are feeling, that in one way or another, you are being ripped off. From the booze at Migros to the blatantly rip-off money changer on Ataturk Cadessi. You complain of being both financially, racially and sexually (in some cases) abused. But still you want to be there!?
How many members of this forum have complained about being ripped off? and yet, you all seem to think that it is "God's own Country!!
Give me a break!! you folks ought to know that there is a life beyond Calis' or any other part of Turkey. Maybe some of you have been to other parts of the world and found them wanting - so? We can all do that wherever we are. I can understand that everybody wants their own piece of heaven. I hope you find it - because, as far as I am concerned, Turkey is not the place to look!
I predict that in less than three years the banking system will realise that,(as Doomsday prophecies have foretold) the Sterling/Euro will not maintain it's strength, and that they,(the banks) will start selling! Wholesale! Of course all of you that have put your money into that system will suffer, make no mistake! Whether to pay for your retirement or try to make a bundle in the banking system of Turkey, you are all at the whims of the institutions there. There is and never will be a "bigtime".
Give yourselves a wake up call folks, life is about to become reality, really expensive and not not at all what you dreamed it might be in the land of Turkey.
-
Jill. Not all of us are in it to make money. We have bought are place as a holiday home for us and the children. Somewhere to escape the rat race. I appreciate that living in Turkey full time you must see it from a different perspective. But each to their own.
-
jill you sound sore!! whats ur story? wheres ur dream?
-
Why the some what patronising remarks about people wanting a residency permit?.......It seems from your post 04/02/05 quote" when I did get my residency permit " unquote, that you are also one of those people.[?]
-
My story Stuart??
You do not want to know! we,that is my husband and I fell foul of the smiling Turks who offer their hand in partnership and the other behind their back taking everything else off you.
OK!!!I know that this will make me sound like a bitter person because of that experience, which by the way, cost and lost us over £20K! OK, I am, but in that respect only.
Given that you take away all the crap people, shyster "businessmen" and other rip off merchants, go out into the country where I have never found an unwelcoming face or voice, Then Turkey,as with most countries has a lot going for it.
What I object to is those people who come to this land and blag about how much their home cost them last week and how much it is worth this week. There are a lot of them out there. Oh,they may not want to openly admit it on such a public forum as this, but just listen to the chat in the bars, and restuarants such as "Cafe Ole" in Paspatur (My apologies to Attila, he cannot dictate the tastes of his customers!) Outside in the shade, coffee and bun! Oh yes I hear it all the time and get heartily sick of the way in which my so-called "fellow country" people are making a profit out of the likes of the families who have had to move because their landlord can make a 500% profit selling a crappy apartment to Brits,Germans, Dutch etc!!!
My dream Stuart?? to live in a place where none of the aforesaid ever happens!!! I guess I just got to keep looking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-\
Oh yes,Tribalelder, I was not being patronising as you put it.That post was part of a genuine response and you quoted it out of context, did you ever work for the "SUN" newspaper in one of your former lives by any chance?[:(!]
-
Jill - I am sorry you seem to have had a bad experience but do not let that cloud your opinion of Turkey or the Turkish people. yes you can get "ripped off" but to lose 20K sounds to me more like bad judgement than anything else or maybe you were too trusting? Business people tend to be the same the world over - in it to make money. some do it in a "nice" / honourable way others in a more ruthless way, sometimes treading on people as they do so. In that respect Turkey is no different to anywhere else in the world.

Jill - what a load of rubbish! The 'doomsday' you mention is actually the worry that the Lira will devalue and the pound and euro will become even stronger. Ok - it might not be too wise to put all your savings into the lira long term and I think most people realise this.
Property prices will continue to rise as long as there are people willing to invest their money. Some will make their 'fortune' and others will get stung. The secret (in my opinion) is not to put all your eggs in one basket and be very careful who you trust - whether they are Turkish, English or Chinese!
You 'fell foul of the smiling Turks' as you say. Well I know people who have had the same problems with 'smiling' Brits in Turkey. It's not nice and you look back wondering if you should have done things differently.

Article in FT....... foreign investors to be given citizenship
http://www.fethiyetimes.org.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=372&Itemid=58
-
In the context of this albeit brief announcement how does one define "a foreign investor"[?]
-
Good question -- one I do not have the answer to. I'm sure it will all be revealed in Turkish time!
Stoop
-
I will freely admit to wanting my properties to all increase in value, and if Turkey proves its self over the next year will invest more, why? because the dole faced scottish cancellor has screwed up the pension system to the effect that people have to look else where to make their investments, however that doesn't preclude me enjoying the place and properties,(in answer to jill's comment that banking system/people concerned about value of their property etc. if 20k was all I had lost from bad deals (mainly my own fault) then I would consider myself lucky.sorry wandered completly of subject.
-
What exactly are the benefits of a residency permit?
-
none only to stay here longer than 3 months on a visa
-
if you follow fethiyetime guide it is quite simple
just print the guide off and make you way around
(its good if you have a turkish friend to help with languae) as the turks like to send you all over the place
over 2 days would be best.
-
Stoop!!
Get a life.
You have been too long in country!!
cannot you see the woods for the trees.
Someone has to give the wake up calls. Even if you ignore it.
I truly believe that you all have been complacent for so long that you do not "see the big picture"
Obviously you are not viewing the things that go on outside of the country you chose for your retirement.
As on of most favourite musicians composed:
"There are none so blind as those who will not see"
The way I see it, those who want to have their live just "bimble on" regardless, are not looking at what is going on around them.
Be prepared!!! That's all I can say
-
Jill = what do you see as the "big picture" please enlighten us so that we can understand the problems you seem to want to warn us against
Janet
-
Jill
Pray tell us what wake-up call you want to give us all? What is the 'big picture'?
It seems you were ripped off for 20K & now you think there is a plot of somekind.
I was ripped off for 25K in this country 7 years ago but I don't see that as a plot - I see it as my own stupidity & greed. Nobody forced me to give them 25K, I did it because I thought I could possibly double triple or increase it tenfold (& more) in a short time. I wasn't the only one - there were many more like me (I personally knew of at least 50 others) who were completely taken in, some for 10+ times more than I lost. A couple of those taken in were household names in the financial industry who advise others in daily newspapers & on well respected financial websites.
You have to put your loss behind you & get on with life. OK you made a mistake, perhaps you like myself & others were stupid enough to believe hype that you were given. It happens everywhere in the world but you must learn by it & not let the loss ruin your life.
'There are none so blind as those who will not see' - I suspect you really wish you'd remembered this before you parted with your money.
What a difference from one of your 1st posts on this site
{A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}3892
Let it go Jill or let everyone benefit from your mistake by telling us exactly what happened in the hope it doen't happen to anyone else.
Get on with your life & put the bitterness behind you.

I am sorry i dont agree . Asli has helped our family above and beyond her call of duty and on occasions for nothing. This is her job she works as a translator i am sure you will find plenty of happy customers. None of our family could speak Turkish when we arrived and our turkish friend struggled to help Asli has done a great deal of good work.
-
how does somebody been ripped off have anything to do with this subject, big picture ie ben hur, or lyrics from a 60s pop song suposed to help please enlighten us zen.
-
Jill,
Sorry to read you bad experience. I have to tell you my experience, our friends from UK (Crawley)liked very much incirkoy (near Uzumlu)and wanted buy a large sum of land. He is a young fireman and his wife is a nurse. I indroduce them to local (Turkish)estate agent who doesn't work with foreign customers. We asked him his opinion. His clear feedback was, theye were about to pay 4 ( FOUR!!!) times more then the market price. Unfortunately they still went ahaed with this project. Their investment was 45K.... now they realized that they paid too much had only 5% building permission...
After reading your story and having my friends experience my conlusion is: I think people are becoming too blinde when they buy ( what ever you like to call, dream home, being too gready, etc etc ) propety.... they her waht they like to hear, they see what they like to see. I think sale man will allways smile.. if you don't ask the correct question.
-
I think my involvment in this thread must come to an end mainly because my glasses lost that "rose tint" some time ago and I now see the world for what I believe it truly is.
I leave with one final comment.
"There are none so blind as those who WILL not see"!
-
I agree with many users who have used Asli for translation, permits etc. But I was in Fethiye recently & used 'atak' for some issues I needed sorting out. Terrific guy, so helpful, so quick, also nothing is toooo much trouble & his English is spot on.
If anyone needs his e mail contacts, just let me know. His office is just behind Garanti bank.
