Any ideas of who to contact for house and earthquake insurance... need to do it fairly soon! Would appreciate any help we can get on this one.... thanks Di

Your agent would be a good person to start with. If they can't help then pm me and I will try and hook you up with someone who can.

We did the whole thing through our bank (Finansbank) Ayse did everything for us and rang us back in the UK when everything had gone through. We paid by direct debit, buildings, contents, earthquake insurance.

Banks offer very competitive rates and you don't have to worry about renewal if you are not here at the time. :)

I agree with valentine. We also arranged ours through Finans (Ayse). Very easy and very helpful
Just make sure you ensure the full amount (it won't be expensive anyway)

Like tribalelder has said also the advantage to insuring through the bank you don't have to worry about renewals, we have arranged for that to be done automatically from our account.

We went thorough our agents and the insurance company was well known to us - they were a worldwide company! and I think we paid around the £140.00 - £150.00 mark - covered near enough everything!

Initially we approach our Turkish banks, Finasbank and Garanti for quotes. Despite promises of quotes from Finasbank they failed to deliver and Garanti failed to responsed. After many emails and phone calls to Turkey we did manage to get some costings from a few Turkish companies but the prices varied quite a lot. We found that each company required different details before the prices were forthcoming. This process was frustrating and time consuming (it may be a lot easier if you are over there). In the end we were able to arrange insurance from an established English company with a very reasonable price (details can be supplied if you send an email) it was quite a painless and fast process and it was a lot easier than trying to obtain quotes from local Turkish companies and the banks (ours).

We recently took out buildings and contents insurance with the local Allianz man. He was very helpful, speaks good English and even took us out to lunch! Also helped us buy a television set and secured good discount. The policy is written in English, and payment can be made by credit card in sterling, thereby saving on exchange fees. Have already recommended him to several other owners, who have also taken out policies. Please feel free to email us for further details.

We have tried several different ones since buying our apartment 3 years ago but On Cenks recommendation we went to Baris in Fethiye last year, he was excellent he met us by the Mosque and took us to his offices, he speaks very good english and explained everything it cost £160 for the cover for a 2 bed apartment inc the earthquake cover, the policy is with AIG and all in english and comparable with a UK policy.
I personally would not use the banks as its not their core product just an add on and a means of making more money and if the truth be known they really don't know much about insurance an insurance broker is much better.

Can someone explain, we already have a buildings and contents policy, which includes earthquake insurance, arranged last year but our developers tell us we have to have a seperate DASK policy as well now the tapu is in our names, I am not sure this is correct anybody able to help
-
D.A.S.K., or Dogal Afet Sigortalari Kurumu, is a requirement for ALL homeowners and is a completely seperate policy to any household or buildings insurance you've taken out. Here's a link to the official D.A.S.K. leaflet: DASK (http://"http://www.dask.gov.tr/img/TCIP1.gif")

We were told that the DASK is compulsory but only pays out a certain amount which probably wouldn't cover the rebuilding costs. The earthquake bit on your main policy covers the shortfall in costs that the DASK doesn't cover.

You could also try AXA, their agent, Asli, is based in the Renault dealership on the Dalaman road & speaks very good English too. She'll arrange house calls if necessary
