Hi - does anyone know the current rate?
I am over 2-weeks today (can't wait) to furnish apartment at Lemon 3.
Final payment for builder will be put into GBP account by transfer but I am not sure what to do about furniture?
I checked Fethiye Times but site seemed to be down. In UK I can buy at 2.265 at Travelcare - but on Garanti Bank website it says - buy at 2.34(I am in Finansbank but couldn't see a rate on their site)
Now sorry if this sounds stupid but am I best to just transfer GBP to Finansbank and they will give me a better rate than Travelcare in the UK? If so does anyone have any idea what it is?
I opened a Nationwide Account to make transfers so I am paying attention - but it really does make quite a difference to get the best rates - particularly as furniture seems to be going up since I first budgeted 9-months ago!
I can now see how that George Soros fellow made a fortune!
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks - Ian

If they really are offering 3.24, I'll have some of that too!!!
-
fethiye times say pound against ytl 2.36
temp 5 degrees at 10.30 pm

Rates are about 2.35 to a pound here at the moment, the rates are better over here.
Most shops are more than happy to accept sterling but check exchange rate before you buy.

Sorry - should have said 2.34 (not 3.24) - rushing to go out - sorry for the mad rush to Garanti Bank.

Ian you will find that most places where you buy your furniture will take sterling, just check at what rate they are using though. We even paid for our curtains in sterling, that way if you're happy with the price then everyones happy.

Hi I am also coming to furnish in feb and wondered if it was best to put the money into a lira account or sterling account as i have both type's of account with Finansbank
-
Lira account pays about three times the interest of a sterling account....No Contest. :)

Brian thanks for the info

Can anyone tell me if it says the rate is 2.35 on the front of the Fethiye Times does that mean if I transfer money from my GBP account at Finansbank to my New Turkish Lira Account - it will mean £1000 = 2350 YTL? Is this the rate shopkeepers will use to divide by to convert to GBP if I pay for furniture with GBP?
I always seem to get this wrong when I go on holiday anywhere in the world and they say something like "no we buy at that rate we sell at a lower rate etc etc".
Many thanks - Ian (only 6-days to go now!)
