I've been thinking recently about having my teeth 'spruced up'.Whilst they are clean and relatively white, they are becoming a bit chipped and not as good as they were.As a result i have decided to have porcelain veneers. I have spoken to my local dentist and found that it is really expensive. I'm sure that it would be much cheaper in Turkey and am wondering if anybody has had this done or knows of anyone and can recommend a good dentist.
My plan would be to visit the dentist for a consultation when I come to Fethiye in June and get it sorted when I'm back in September.
I'm aware that there have been threads before regarding dentists however I dont think it was regarding the same thing.
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated :D (Thats the smile I would like to have)

Hi Jukebox .....I think if you look on those threads there were one or two websites given that cover the area you are looking at. :)

kate do you know if they do whitening, over there?
-
Yes they do. There is a cheap version you do at home or the expensive version.
I opted for the latter and it took 2 hours and cost just over 400 pounds.

just been to the dentist, poo, needed 2 fillings, clean and polishing.
Great guy he,s been a dentist for 37 years, speaks resonable english and was great at calming my friend down who needs a lot of root canal work, she,s already spent about 6 hours there, he called in a specialist from the hospital because of the extent and complications of the work she needs... Any way she also needs some major gaps filling and bridgework doing, but he has a book in english that he uses to show all the work that needs doing and it explains how it,s done. Some of the details i,d rather not know!
Great facilities, he had a place in istanbul for alot of years. Prices seem to be set for the work done, any way his place is near the Maliye and Fethiye Leather Centre his number is 0252 612 1117 Ali Aydan Avsar. There,s a cafe on the front of the building, he,s round the back and upstairs, you can tell it,s a dentist as he has a 'Twinkle Star' tooth sticker on his door.
Pegs.

I had some dental work in Fethiye last week and definately recommend him.His name is Volkan Ozdag (speaks very good English)and his surgery is near the fish market. All his equipment seemed far superior to our dentist here in the UK including a camera to show you the problems etc on a screen.
I had a free check up and needed something doing with a broken tooth. He explained the alternative treatments and the costs.I settled for a crowm which would have cost me £450 in the UK but cost 232TLY (about £100). A 'scrape and polish' was 7TLY (£37.50 UK)He also spent an hour discussing the alternative treatments for my missing back teeth which I'll definately return to him next visit to Turkey.

Thanks all for the continuing info :D

I am still not convinced on these prices. I went last week for a scale and polish and it cost me £9.75 including a check up. I know this was NHS but even so. Anyone without an NHS dentist can check on the NHS website for the nearest one taking on new patients. Also, it would be wise to try and get any treatment done before April as the Government are changing the charging system and it could potentially be expensive!

Lynne, You are very lucky to have a NHS dentist. Here in Wales they are far and few between. It is also very difficult getting on a private dentists register as well. Also if you don't visit them for even just a scale and polish you have to go back to square one and have a checkup before any treatment which is £56! The prices I quoted are recent prices from our dentist here in Wales. Dentiistry in Turkey is very good value and even taking into account my flight costs it was still cheaper to fly to Turkey for the work done than have it here in Wales.

This may be of help:

(hope it works!)

The only one I could find in Wales using that site is in Cardiff - 120 miles away!
-
Never mind. Still, it is heartening to see there are 92 dental practices in Wales accepting NHS patients.

Hi Sean, I agree with Ian (jrian). You can't get a dentist on Isle of Wight for love nor money so Heidi introduced me to Volkan in December and he did two fillings for me and was excellent. I have now registered with him and am due to have 2 more fillings done when I go back out next month :( Pete is also going to register with him - a long way to go for a check-up but worth it!

We do have a dentist here but the waiting time for an appointment is horrendous. I needed treatment before christmas - my dentist recommended a metal cap costing £80.00 ( or a white ceramic cap - £150)- earliest appointment was mid - January. When we were in Calis at Christmas our friend took me to his Turkish dentist in Fethiye (next to the cinema)- I was seen within 10 minutes and had an appointment within a couple of days. Instead of a metal cap between old mercury fillings he recommended re-filling the lot with white fillings. It cost me £130 for 3 white fillings and he did a fantastic job. I am well pleased and I intend going back to him to have all my old fillings and a metal cap replaced.

Hiya
I,ve just been to volken he is very good and put me at ease seeing as I am extremly petrified of dentists. He saved my back tooth and fitted a 4 tooth ceramic bridge ( very hollywood ) total 930 ytl ( about 400 quid) Would have cost at least 900 in UK. I didnt even feel the needle.
Would recommend any time!!

Hi Lynne, Some good news for us.They were taking registrations for a new NHS dentist in our local town 7 miles away!! We registered along with 7998 other people! The practice is upposed to open in 10 weeks time but I will probably still visit Volkan in Fethiye as well when in Turkey.
