Title: Visit to Calis - 6/1/04
Post by: DaveM on January 15, 2004, 05:26:43 AM
Just come back from a week in Calis and I eventual bought property.
I went on my own so would just like to say thanks to some people who made me very welcome.
Roy, your a gent and our chats over the balcony of our apartments were great.
Mick & Teresa, now known as Baron Mick & Baroness Teresa of Calis, we had a few laughs didn't we.
Heidi 'tell it how it is' couldn't have done it with out you, so your reward in May will be pork saugages & a bottle of Gl.....
Cenk & Olga, thanks for your help, so your reward is bacon for Olga & Yeni raki (already purchased from duty free) for Cenk.
Anyone I met at Anna bar especially whilst watching hours of premiership football and drinking the odd bottle of Efes!

Some observations:
1) Prices are definately going up.
2) You need to be a good judge of charactor to be able to get an agent you can at least half trust.  We all have a living to make but there are ways & means!
3) Let an agent know your budget so they can target properties for you to view but remember they may also push a property price to your limit!
4) If on a photo the property is shaded by trees then it maybe hiding something.
5) When looking at so many properties it is easy to get carried away, so keep asking youself why do I want a property (e.g. investment, holiday home, keep up with the Jones & so on).

That's it for now.

He said I was a Gent.... now there's a man with impeccable taste. Yeah Dave we sure put the world to rights while sat on that balcony - that is when you could be dragged away from Anna's pub and the footie while wearing your City shirt  :)
PS He's the 'other' man City supporter  :)

I looked at about 12 properties and then elimated 8 to get to 4.  In the end I went for a new off plan apartment.  Where you cross the metal bridge after staggering from Anna's bar, follow the Calis road that leads to the main Dalaman/Antalya road it's 1.7km.  At the moment it is, in Teresa's words an expensive piece of scrub.  When it is finished, hopefully in May, it will be a 2 bedroom apartment and hopefully a good investment.

If that has left any of you puzzled don't worry !.
I don't think he knows precisely where it is himself ~I was with him when we got lost !. He was supposed to turn right at the yellow boat which of course will be moved any time soon. I also know he's nowhere near the Dalaman Antalya road  :)
Don't worry Dave we will find it next time we go :D

Ah! so it is you! :) yeah you went home Sunday night...but bags were packed Saturday!! (heh, heh) ;).  We were talking to you the evening of the belly dancing at Odek, you told us about your experience of buying in Turkey. We were also with you both in the bar just before you left to get your plane. I think we were the only people there who hadn't bought Turkish property!

On the Monday we went to a place near Marmaris for our second week, and guess what .... we started looking in estate agents!! viewed a few properties and intend to go back probably Sept to have a serious look round with a view to buying. So, ta for sharing your story with us, and thank you very much for telling us about this forum, lots of good info here.

We are happy to be new members of this forum, thanks to all who give advice & info here. As we are just starting out on this venture, we have a lot to learn!

all the best.

Nige & Lynn, yes I remember now, Efes & Tuborg has cleared from my head.  You will find this forum very useful.  Ask any questions, no matter how silly or trivial, and someone will have the answers.  Well good look in September, hopefully I'll be in Violet by then.
Cheers for now,  DaveM.

Thanks for the welcomes!

cheers Dave, hope that Violet is soon finished and ready for you.

Erin, we were looking at property in Akyaka.

Just been reading around the forums, can't remember where I saw it but someone (I think it was Teresa ?) said to be careful around Akyaka - shark territory. I think she was talking about estate agents and not the marine life!  ;)

Not sure if I should've started another thread to ask this question  :-\ but am hoping that whoever wrote the warning would be kind enough to elaborate and tell us who or what to be wary of in Akyaka.

cheers folks, it seems very friendly here!
 :)

Welcome to the Forum Nige & Lynn.
Hope you find something to your liking when your over househunting.
We've bought at the Violet apartments too although we've never been to Calis.
This site played a big part on our choice though, so much information and advice.
