Title: Banks
Post by: Rimms on April 09, 2006, 16:39:26 PM
My agent has just told me that Turkish banks will not protect you if one of their staff steals money from your account, is this correct? If so, must be a big concern for anyone with their pension deposited over there.

Rimms,
I was told that some banks may take your money and you will not be able to get it back, however, with a government backed bank i.e Finans, Garanti you have no such problem and you can rest assured your money is safe. The only problem i encountered with the Garanti Bank was the length of time it took to get to the till.

We had the same problem at Garanti. It's worst on Monday and not much better on Tuesday. The last couple of times we've been between 9 and 10 on Thursday and got in and out in next to no time. :D

p.s. This included going to the till and some business upstairs as well.

You know your interest rate on your lira how come it goes down.  Mine was 16.25 to start with now its going down to 15.25 and does it continue to go down each month and if this is the case would it be better to move my money to another bank?

It can go up or it can go down.  The current trend is downwards.  Changing banks will not make a great deal of difference. The rates are governed by the overall financial situation in the country as a whole and in fact the world economy. Turkey is trying to reduce inflation so the trend will be downwards. :)

the banks are not free in turkey
you have to pay for every account you open here
its not much but it isnt free or safe as posts will tell you, its a gamble
