If you hire a car in Turkey is a UK licence ok to do this with or do you need an international licence required, also do you need to buy insurance in Turkey? Thanks for any help with this.

UK License is fine, insurance should be included in the hire car fee, check this.

Remember to also take the paper part of your driving licence as this is required when you hire a car.  That's all you need, insurance will be included with a good hire car Company.

...and keep your driving license (both parts) with you at all times you are using the car.

I think that the advice you have been given is OK if you are on holiday. As I understand it, if you have Turkish residence you need a Turkish licence; although hire companies might tell you a different story and rent you a car on your UK licence; the only problem being if you have an accident it might invalidate any insurance .

If you are here on a 90 day visa your UK license is fine.  If you have a residents Visa you need your UK license translated into Turkish and carry that with your UK license.  If you take Turkish Nationality you will need a Turkish license.

You may be offered "extra insurance" to cover tyres and windscreen, neither of which are usually covered on the standard insurance, was around £2 a day when I used to hire cars here.
