Is this the end of Oasis?

Noel Gallagher has anounced that he's quitting, as he can no longer work with Liam. As he's the principle songwriter, is this the writing on the wall[?]

Yes, with any luck.

Or, it could just be another cynical ploy to sell a few more albums.  ;)

I hope not.
Not overly fond of their albums but one of the best live bands around, love the work they did with the Crouch End Festival Chorus
at the Electric Proms last year.

Well its confirmed they have split, personally I think Noel will be fantastic on his own, i have a couple of his albums with just him on his own or collaborating with other people really brilliant music. I was at V in Chelmsford last Sunday, we had just finished watching Ocean colour Scene when the message came up that they had cancelled the crowd went crazy, so many peed off people. We brought our tickets (£85!) just to see OCS and Oasis, so were a bit gutted. Hopefully Noel will do well without his jumped up bro and the rest of the band!  :)

Richard Littlejohn in The Mail

Gertcha!

Most of the obituaries of Oasis have concluded that essentially they were a Beatles tribute band who got lucky.

I've always thought they were more of a Rutles tribute act. The Rutles were a Fab Four pastiche created by Eric Idle and Neil Innes for a spoof rockumentary in the Seventies.

After the television series, Rutland Weekend Television, ended, The Rutles took on a life of their own, even putting out an album in 1976.

Oasis sound uncannily like The Rutles, especially some of their earlier stuff.  I can't say I was ever much of a fan of the brothers Gallagher, though I did enjoy Don't Look Back In Anger, which featured the charming Patrick Macnee, from The Avengers, in the video.

Last season, Liam turned up in an executive box at White Hart Lane, to watch his team Manchester City play Spurs.

He couldn't resist goading the home fans, who serenaded him with a chorus of: 'You're just a crap Chas and Dave!'

Which I thought was a bit unfair  -  on Chas and Dave.
