The model utilized in Belgium and Switzerland on vehicle license plates will soon be put into effect in Turkey. License plates will be issued to individuals for a lifetime, versus being issued according to vehicles. Automotive purchases will no longer involve license plates.

it is an interesting article...goes to show that it is quite possible that ressidencey permit is required to own a vehicle ...since the licensce will be for the person and not the vehicle

Brian - as this is Turkey - it is never that clear is it?

"The Police Department is currently working on two alternatives for the allocation of license plate numbers. License plates will either be allocated to the individual's name in which a vehicle is registered under or will be given according to Republic of Turkey identification numbers."

what a fantastic idea, now all you have to do is have plates made up belonging to someone else and they can pay all your fines etc.  How do you prove that someone has nicked your number plate.  How about one car one number plate which matches cars colour make and model, or would that be to easy.
