all flights to and from manchester cancelled from 13:00 until 19:00 today due to ash cloud . hope they're back flying tomorrow should be flying 12:00 noon fingers and everything else crossed.

I seem to remember that in April Willie Walsh bravely flew through the ash cloud to prove that the dangers were being overstated.

Other European Airlines also carried out tests which gave the same results.

So what happened with these results

So what happened to the ash cloud[?] I have not seen any mention now for a couple of weeks in the press.  Perhps BP have been contracted to cap the volcano:D

Iceland volcano ‘pauses'

Latest information received from the Icelandic Meteorological Office indicate that the volcano is no longer emitting any ash but only a steam plume of up to around 10,000 feet. As a result of this lower activity, UK airspace is not expected to be affected.

Volcanologists and Geologists term this quieter spell of volcanic activity as a ‘paused' phase. However, it is typical for a volcano like this to have several ‘pauses' as part of its overall eruption phase. Only when the volcano has been ‘paused' for three months will it then be regarded as being dormant.

Although no ash is being emitted at the moment, while any volcanic activity continues the Met Office will continue to monitor the situation.
