We moved about 6 weeks ago. Sky have twice messed us about on installation, leaving us watching just the 5 terrestrial channels as Freeview isn't here yet and cable ends literally next door. There is a dish on the wall.

I just wanted to say...

Isn't Freesat brill  8)

Yes it is - and if you get an HD box it's even brillianter!!!

Have you tried a search on 'non freesat'? Lots more channels (and more rubbish unfortunately).

We ditched sky 3 years ago and have never missed it - if I want to watch the footy on Sky I go for a beer or two and my missus can catch up on her soaps etc - works a treat  :)

Welcome to the freesat world.

Yes, it's a bit ridiculous how Sky News is available on non-freesat but not on Freesat. I have the Humax HD box, I actually bought it when we moved back here to watch the ITV Champions League/FA Cup footie matches in HD as we had Virgin cable (but they had no HD at that time).

You are right that you think you can't live without Sky/VM until you try it - we had the largest Virgin package with all the channels but when you lose it, you realise 99% of what you watch is free to air anyway! I had signed up for Sky on a much reduced range of channels, only £32/month including HD!!!

That's £32/month more than I'm paying now and I'm more than happy :D

Yes Freesat is brill
We also ditched Sky a few years ago and went Freesat via a Humax box, which quickly paid for itself.
And a useful extra with our box, is the ability to save recorded programmes to a hard drive and watch them during winter visits to Fethiye.

That's an excellent idea Jim, I never thought of that. I can't really justify the extra cost for a Humax with recording facilities as we are unable to add a second feed from the dish (due to the dish location) but I do find that with iplayer, 4OD and ITVplayer there isn't much need to record anything these days.

Yes the Hummy with a hard drive is best - however I bought a Hummy freeview box first and that has a hard drive so I really only watch freesat if I want HD or somethig that 'aint on freeview.

Sounds complicated but it's not really  :)
