Turkey Census early 2011 and impact on living here
« on: November 10, 2010, 16:05:07 PM »

I see in the news that Turkey are gearing up for another Census March/April 2011. Since they will be calling at all homes i wondered how this might affect anyone living here without full residency as they will most certainly be wanting details when the mandatory census is completed face to face. Turks will have to provide their kimlik of course and foreigners will supposedly (spec) have to provide their living ID and passport.

The last time a census was taken, the ex-pat scene was not taken into account, but this time round it is to be part of the form filling.

From what was suggested last night informally, the Census gatherers will also be asking for very personal information and financial details to boot. Apparently air time on TV will start after bayram.

More yabanci taxes to follow?

I am sure Brits who are living there on a tourist visa will say something like "I don't live here, I am a tourist". Job done.

I agree but apparently and it was only speculation that coupled with looking at passports they will determine different.

Anyway, it's a happening thing soon, so merely sharing info.

We were there when the last census was carried out, two young ladies came to our home, checked the address and asked to see our passports, If I remember rightly one did look at Gordon's passport and said "oh Problem" then wanted to take the passport.
Enter Gordon back arched bark at full throttle! hence they did not take the passport and left, nothing else was done. End of Census.

Aye, nae bloody wonder I threw a damnt wobbly!! 2 young students standing on MY doorstep telling ME that MY passport is ILLEGAL!  :o Their reasoning behind this "revelation"? My birthplace is shown as Bridge of Allan, Scotland, (& very proud of it as well), these "kids" decided that my passport was an illegal document as the front cover says ; United Kingdom Of Great Britain And Northern Ireland, there being no mention at all of Scotland !!  Blooming cheeky, uneducated Wazzocks!!

Damnt guid joab the claymore wiz at the cutlers gitting an edge tae it!! [:(!][:(!][:(!]

Alba an Aigh!!
Gordy.
