Electrinic Keypad Safe - Unsafe?
« on: March 03, 2012, 11:49:51 AM »
We have a small safe in our apartment which has a keypad entry system on it. The one where you can change the 4 digit code every time you use it.
Apparently there is a "Generic 6 digit master code" that overrides any 4 digit code entered and it is the same as all the others of the same brand.
I tested this last year and it is true.
I also asked at a hotel and their code was the same for all their safes (they even told me the code)
Does anyone know how to change the Master code on these types of safe?
Otherwise its pointless having one isn't it?

Having worked for many years for a hotel group that had these safes in most of the bedrooms, you'd be shocked at how many of the numpties forgot the code they had entered & the Duty Managers were forever having to use the override code. To my knowledge, the master code is factory set & cannot be changed

If this is true (and I don't doubt it) it might be better to remove the batteries and just use the key. (Ours has a key for opening in the event of forgetting the number).

Ours doesn't have a key unfortunately.
