I don't actually think the driving is as dangerous as many other countries - ok it's not great but there's only about half a dozen ludicrous manoeuvres to keep alert for (my favourite being the overtaking of someone who is turning left off a main road on the side they are turning to). If you know those, it's actually ok - if you want to drive at 5 km/h nobody cares, they just go round you. In the UK they'd be ready to kill you.
What I really wish for driving in Turkey is that car condition was better monitored and for seatbelt use to be seen as normal. Rusty old cars from days of far poorer integrated safety, and not wearing seatbelts are the reasons that so many collisions there - even relatively tame ones - result in deaths.
