Further Canal Work
« on: January 09, 2014, 13:39:28 PM »
Well it's all happening on the local canal today, no not the upside down bridge one, the one that flows down past the Adrenalin to the Pelin Hotel, where it joins up with the main canal just under the bridge that carries the main (Dolophin Roundabout) road, by the smelly sewage place.  Over the last few days there has been a bit of activity that I thought might simply be reed clearing, but no it looks like this canal is going to get the full treatment like the one that goes under the upside down bridge.  I knew this when I saw a tree felled and others followed!  A big clue was also the fact that the footbridge outside the Adrenalin was gone, and there was all sorts of activity going on with diggers, lorries and also locals cutting down trees along the bank and preparing as firewood (Pics 1,2 and 5).  The other smaller canal that runs into this 'main' canal at the crossing bridge near to the Nevada will probably have some work done on it too, but clear at this time of any work activity. (Pic4)

Judging by some of the Surveyors markings it looks like they'll be taking, temporarily at least, a good chunk of the neighbouring road/s to get the required width. (Pic3)

The other canal that runs parallel to the one described above, nearest to the main road, has not had any work started yet, but there has been a large contractor sign placed near to it, so I assume work will start there soon too.

OMG that is brill thank you so much for sharing UBT my house is right near there, well apartment in fact I can just see our complex in one of your pics, that looks so much better already by the Manzara places where all the reeds have gone, I do admit I am always wary of someone being in those reeds so will be a lot safer... Hope the wildlife is not too effected by the work cant bear to think of all the little turtles being hurt, mind you it is not turtle time at the mo is it  :(

They will both be much more like canals when completed but they will be rivers forever   ;)

Not sure it will do much for the wildlife though, most worried about the beautiful birds in the area including the kingfishers.  Mind you will it do something about the period of the mating frogs and all the noise they make... could result in the volume coming down a notch or two.
