Get Splashing on New Year's Day and help local charities
« on: December 09, 2014, 07:00:22 AM »
The Çalış New Year’s Day Splash should be an even bigger spectacle this year as organizers the 3C’s have now invited other local charities to take part to raise money for their own good causes.

The wacky annual event, now in its 7th year, is certain to be a surefire cure for the excesses of the New Years Eve festivities!

The “Splash” will take place on the beach opposite Eyna Bistro Bar on Çalış promenade.  Assembly will be from 12.00 noon and the Big Splash will take place at 1.00 pm. The owners of Eyna restaurant, Erhan and Nalan Acar are kindly providing free hot soup for the “splashers”.

The charity hopes that the brave "splashers" will seek sponsorship and wear fancy dress for the event - the wackier the better!  So whether you support the 3C’s, Animal Aid, Embrace or FIG, if you want to join in, now is the time to start thinking of your costume. There will be a prize for the best costume.

3C’s Sponsorship forms are now available to pick up from the, 3C’s charity shop beneath Eyna Bistro Bar or you can ring 0536 3739520 or email threecscharity@hotmail.com for a form or more information.   The other charities will provide their own sponsorship forms.

This event is open to everyone, individuals, groups of friends, family and clubs, whether you live in Çalış, Fethiye, Uzumlu, Hisaronu or even if you are on holiday. So get thinking of a costume, get sponsored, get “splashing” and have fun - whilst helping local good causes.

Okay, my mate Gareth Patton, his wife Elaine and myself are doing this crazy swim in the sea for the 3 C's in fancy dress. The 3 C's Charity supports loads of projects aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged children in the area. If you would like to sponsor me on this (we have to stay in the sea for at least 10 minutes I think) then I would appreciate it. Send me a pm, or a reply on here and I will let you know how you can get your sponsorship to me. Thanks everyone.

It should be a great fun afternoon  watching all these nutters in fancy dress throw themselves into the sea and all in the name of charity.
Good luck everyone who is taking part, we hope you raise lots of money for your good causes and don't get too cold.  At least you have hot soup to warm you up afterwards. We can't wait to see the pictures   :)

I understand it was a brilliant Splash and everyone had great fun. With 16 "spashers" raising money for the 3C's and Animal Aid, I am told it was quite a sight to behold as they all charged into the sea, which despite the chilly wind blowing off the snow on the mountains, was warmer than expected. Saying that Eyna's hot soup was very welcome after 5 minutes up to their necks in water!

Great thought had gone into this year's costumes which were wacky and wonderful. Winners of the best costumes, chosen by Erhan of Eyna Bar were Gareth Pattern as a beach belle and John Ross as Popeye. They both won a bottle of wine.  Must admit though that my personal favourite from the pictures I have seen so far was our very own Ticker (Graham Whitaker) of the 3C's as a surfing dude with his ironing board surfboard.
I will post pictures as soon as I get a chance.

So here are the pictures, but firstly a reminder of New Years Day when the Splash was postponed due to the storm and big waves

What a difference two days make as the brave Splashers line up ready to brave the icy waters

Fancy dress winner Popeye and Olive Oil

Another winner, the Calis Beach Belles

Surfing dude Ticker and his ironing board surf board

They are off!!!

They are in !!!

Bedraggled but triumphant afterwards.

And the good news is that between them the 3C's and Animal Aid raised around 4,500 TL between them (roughly 50/50) for their respective charities.  Not bad for a quick dip in the sea.  Thank you everyone who sponsored and supported this fun event and thank you to the splashers themselves who I am told are all up for it again next year and are already thinking of their costumes!
