I think that suicide has been ruled out. I would be very surprised that a man of such strong character would choose that option. I sincerely hope not.
And you are right regarding rejection. If the voters of Ross, Cromarty & Skye had shown the same conviction that he showed throughout his career he would surely have still been the MP for this constituency. But everyone is entitled to vote for whoever they wish. Charles would have had it no other way.
I didn't "know" Charles Kennedy. I shared a few tables at Black-Tie dinners with him, indeed he was my previous company's special guest when we sponsored a big dinner some years ago.
But, on a personal level I am glad that I had the opportunity to thank him for his 32 years service to my part of the world.
I did also say that whatever he found himself doing the Friday morning after the election that it was a success.
Sadly, it was not to be.
