Given the welter of negative news about death, destruction, fear and loathing I thought I would offer a cheerful thought. We are getting safer in the UK. Well we are on the roads anyway. In 2000 there were 3409 deaths of British roads: a much greater number than all the deaths from terrorism in the UK from then to now. This huge number included 857 pedestrians just walking about their country. This has now been halved. By 2013 total deaths were down to 1713 which included only 398 pedestrians. So it's getting safer to out on the roads in Britain! Thought you'd like to know since you may not find much good news in your newspapers - especially if you take the Daily Mail.
