Euros
« on: November 18, 2015, 12:51:31 PM »
Anyone going to Europe in the next few weeks the Euro is around 1.40 to the £1.00.    Halifax Clarity is 1.43 which is the highest and the next best on Martin Lewis's list is Debenhams, which is hovering around 1.39-1.40.
Very good rates at the moment.  ;D

These rates have been around for a while Jacqui. We went to Ibiza beginning of October for 10 days and I got 1.41 to the £ here before we left and 1.40 in resort, which we thought was a very good rate..

When the Euro was launched you could buy one for 70p. Some people predicted calamity for the new currency but since then it has usually cost quite a lot more. But now, after all these years, the Pound has finally struggled back to an exchange rate of about 70p.

HI Marina,
There is a piece on Martin Lewis's Website today with this text
----------
The pound has punched through the psychological €1.40 barrier today for the first time since 2007. This would've been unthinkable this time last year when you'd have done well to get €1.20 and two years ago when €1.15 would've been worth whooping about.
--------------------------------
As we are going away in December I was interested in this article and I knew that in July when we went on the cruise we were not getting 1.40.
I just thought I would share the information with members as it may be of some help.
This is the complete piece from Martin Lewis's Website.

Martin has not been paying attention {perhaps he was on holiday}. The rate went to 1.44 over the summer for quite some time. I remember clearly because we were going to Greece with lots of advice to take cash in case there was a run on the ATMs. Unfortunately by the time I got round to sorting it the rate had gone back to 1.37. Boo hoo!

See 52 week high, here:

Whoops, my apologies to Martin. The link JH posted was to an article published on 10 March 2015.

It was on an email I get from his website, I received it this morning and people were asking should they get Euros now before the holidays and the advise was to click into the link which went to this page..   Obviously, it should not have done.
However, it seems to be around the same as others here have mentioned around the 1.40 mark.
I was only interested as we are going abroad next month.

O.K. looked back at the email (which I had trashed)
This is the bit that I read in the mail which mislead me

Pound hits €1.43 - should you buy euros now? Especially if going away for Christmas. Read Martin's answer.
