There was a pack of 4 fighting by fountains in Fethiye last night.
Im a total animal lover and have always advocated neuter and return.
If picked up when they appear, and put back where they were found asap - but apparently 60 have been released across the area and who knows where they originated or how long they'd been in the shelter.

Its madness.

we're out next week with our grandchildren and this is bad news; can't imagine what the authorities are thinking but if we suffer any incidents we will make sure they're heard about. We've had dogs ourselves in the past but their behaviour was different to those which roam(sometimes in packs) hungry and unloved.
Time for a talk to the kids...

Been here since Friday not seen any dogs fighting or many roaming except by restaurants. Love dogs but don't like to see them fighting. So far not too bad.

There have NOT been 60 dogs released from the shelter. This is a staggered release of perhaps 2 or 3  dogs a week who are at the  shelter. What the Beledye is doing is rounding up the stray dogs, neutering them and putting them back on the streets. This is according to the Turkish Animal Rights Law 5199 of Trap Neuter and return. The dogs that are released from the shelter will be released near by food sources etc and in the winter months Animal Aid and the other Animal charities will look at feeding programmes for these dogs.
